Background There is no appropriate tool to predict recombinant human growth hormone(rhGH)response before therapy initiation in short-stature children in late *** current study aimed to explore the associations between magnetic resonance imaging(MRI)stages of the knee growth plates and rhGH response in short-stature children in late *** In this prospective cohort study,short-stature children in late puberty were treated with rhGH and followed up for 6 *** proposed a novel knee MRI staging system according to the growth plate states of distal femurs or proximal tibias and divided the participants into three groups:unclosed growth plate group,marginally closed growth plate group,and nearly closed growth plate *** primary outcomes were height gain and growth velocity(GV),which were assessed three months *** Fifty participants were enrolled,including 23 boys and 27 *** and height gain after 6 months of rhGH therapy decreased successively in the three groups with an increased degree of growth plate fusion,especially when grouped by proximal tibias(GV_(1-3 mon)from 9.38 to 6.08 to 4.56 cm/year,GV_(4-6 mon)from 6.75 to 4.92 to 3.25 cm/year,and height gain from 4.03 to 2.75 to 1.95 cm,all P<0.001).Moreover,the MRI stages of growth plates independently served as a significant variable for GV and height gain after therapy,especially when grouped by proximal tibias(all P<0.01).Conclusion The MRI staging method is expected to be an effective tool for predicting rhGH response before therapy initiation in short-stature children in late puberty.

Research on Mediate Temperature Decomposition of High Nitrogen Austenite

The decomposed products from high nitrogen austenite aging at 225°C were investigated by TEM. It is found that the shape of decomposition products inside the austenite grains is not regular and not strictly oriented. Preferential nucleation of y-Fe4N at dislocations and grain boundaries has been observed. It also has been found that during the first stage of the high nitrogen austenite decomposition a large quantity of ultra-fine /-Fe4N precipitate inside the parent austenite, which has been thought to be the undecomposed region before. The ultimate products are composed of highly dispersed a-Fe and /-Fe4N, with both of them maintaining nanometer scale. The micro-hardness of them can be as high as 900HV.

Fatty Acid Synthase and Hormone-sensitive Lipase Expression in Liver Are Involved in Zinc-α2-glycoprotein-induced Body Fat Loss in Obese Mice

Objective To explore the effects of zinc-0t2-glycoprotein （ZAG） on body weight and body fat in high-fat-diet （HF1））-induced obesity in mice and the possible mechanism. Methods Thirty-six male mice were fed with standard food （SF）（n=9） and HFD （n=27）, respectively. Five weeks later, 9 mice fed with HFD were subjected to ZAG expression plasmid DNA transfection by liposome transfection method, and another 9 mice to negative control plasmid transfection. Two weeks later, serum ZAG level in the mice was assayed by Western blot, and the effects of ZAG over-expression on body weight, body fat, serum biochemical indexes, and adipose tissue of obese mice were evaluated. The mRNA expressions of fatty acid synthase （FAS） and hormone sensitive lipase （HSL） in liver tissue were deterlnined by reverse transcription-polymerase chain reaction. Results Serum ZAG level significantly lowered in simple HFD-fed mice in comparison to SF-fed mice （0.51±0.10 AU vs. 0.75±0.07 AU, P〈0.01）. Further statistical analysis demonstrated that ZAG level was negatively correlated with body weight （r =-0.56, P〈0.001）, epididymal fat mass （r=-0.67, P〈O. 001）, percentage of epididymal fat （r= 0.65, P〈0.001）, and increased weight （r= 0.57, P〈0.001） in simple SF- and HFD fed mice. ZAG over-expression in obese mice reduced body weight and the percentage of epididyreal fat. Furthermore, FAS mRNA expression decreased （P〈0.01） and HSL mRNA expression increased （P〈0.001） in the liver in ZAG over-expressing mice. Conclusions ZAG is closely related to obesity. Serum ZAG level is inversely correlated with body weight and percentage of body fat. The action of ZAG is associated with reduced FAS expression and increased HSL expression in the liver of obese mice.

BACKGROUND Patients with hypothalamic-pituitary disease have the feature of central obesity,insulin resistance, and dyslipidemia, and there is increased prevalence of liver dysfunction consistent with non-alcoholic fatty liver disease(NAFLD) in this population. The causes of hypopituitarism in the reported studies varied and combined pituitary hormone deficiency including central diabetes insipidus is much common in this population. This retrospective cross-sectional study was performed to analyze the clinical characteristics and related factors with NAFLD and cirrhosis in Chinese adult hypopituitary/panhypopituitary *** To analyze the clinical characteristics of and related risk factors for NAFLD in Chinese adult hypopituitary *** Adult Chinese patients with hypopituitarism and/or panhypopituitarism were enrolled at the Pituitary Center of Peking Union Medical College Hospitalbetween August 2012 and April 2018. According to abdominal ultrasonography,these patients were divided into an NAFLD(-) group and an NAFLD(+) group,and the latter was further divided into an NAFLD group and a cirrhotic *** data, such as patient characteristics, diagnosis, and treatment, were extracted from medical records, and statistical analysis was *** A total of 36 male and 14 female adult Chinese patients with hypopituitarism were included in this retrospective study; 43(87.0%) of these patients exhibited growth hormone(GH) deficiency, and 39(78.3%) had diabetes insipidus. A total of 27(54.0%) patients were diagnosed with NAFLD, while seven patients were cirrhotic. No significant differences were noted in serum GH or insulin-like growth factor 1 among patients with cirrhosis, subjects with NAFLD, and those without NAFLD. Multifunctional carbon materials from rugose rose for energy storage and water purification

With the advancement of social process,the resource problem is becoming more prominent,biomass materials come into being,and it is becoming more and more important to explore and prepare efficient and multifunctional biomass materials to alleviate the problems of energy storage and water *** this paper,nitrogen-doped hierarchical porous carbon materials(NRRC)were produced by one-step carbonization of withered rose as raw material and melamine as nitrogen source with KOH-activated *** resulting nitrogen-doped porous carbon material had the most abundant pores and the best microspherical graded pore structure,with a specific surface area of up to 1393 m2·g^(-1),a pore volume of 0.68 cm3·g^(-1),and a nitrogen-doped content of 5.52%.Electrochemical tests showed that the maximum specific capacitance of NRRC in the three-electrode system was 346.4 F·g^(-1)(0.5 A·g^(-1)),which was combined with favorable capacitance retention performance and cycling *** NRRC//NRRC symmetric supercapacitors were further assembled,and the maximum energy density of a single device was 23.88 Wh·kg^(-1),which still maintains excellent capacitance retention and cyclic charging/discharging *** example,the capacitance retention rate was always close to 96.27%with almost negligible capacitance loss after 10000 consecutive charge/discharge cycles(current density:10 A·g^(-1)).Regardless of the three-electrode or two-electrode system,the super capacitive performance of NRRC porous carbon materials was comparable to the electrochemical performance of many reported biomass porous carbon materials,which showed better energy storage advantages and practical application *** addition,NRRC porous carbon materials had excellent water purification *** dye adsorption test confirmed that NRRC had a high adsorption capacity(491.47 mg·g^(-1))for methylene *** undoubtedly also showed a potential and promising avenue for high value-added utilization

Background and purpose This study aimed to investigate the association of metabolic syndrome(MetS)with both intracranial atherosclerotic stenosis(ICAS)and imaging markers of cerebral small vessel disease(CSVD)in a community-based *** This study included 943 participants(aged 55.6±9.2 years,36.1%male)from the community-based Shunyi cohort *** was defined according to the joint interim criteria and quantified by the MetS severity *** was evaluated by brain magnetic resonance *** MRI markers of CSVD,including white matter hyperintensities(WMHs),lacunes,cerebral microbleeds(CMBs)and enlarged perivascular spaces(EPVS),were *** regression models were used to investigate the association of MetS severity Z-score with ICAS and these CSVD *** We found that risk of ICAS(OR=1.75,95%CI 1.39 to 2.21,p<0.001)increased consistently with MetS *** severity was significantly associated with higher risks of WMH volume(β=0.11,95%CI 0.01 to 0.20,p=0.02)and lacunes(OR=1.28,95%CI 1.03 to 1.59,p=0.03)but not the presence of CMBs(OR=0.93,95%CI 0.74 to 1.16,p=0.51)and PVS severity(EPVS in basal ganglia:OR=0.96,95%CI 0.84 to 1.09,p=0.51 and EPVS in white matter:OR=1.09,95%CI 0.96 to 1.23,p=0.21).Conclusions Our findings suggest that WMH and lacunes share risk factors with atherosclerosis of the cerebral artery,whereas the impact of glucose and lipid metabolic disorder to CMB or EPVS might be weak.
