The safety perspective of probiotic and non-probiotic yoghurts:a review

Diagnosis of Toxoplasma gondii infection in pregnant women using automated chemiluminescence and quantitative real time PCR

Objective: To identify serodiagnosis and quantification of Toxoplasma gondii(T. gondii) infection among pregnant women in Salmas, northwest of Iran. Methods: In this crosssectional study, 276 blood samples were collected from pregnant women referred to the health care centers in Salmas city. The demographic variables were also recorded. Titers of antiToxoplasma IgM and IgG antibodies(Ab) were determined using the chemiluminescence immunoassay. Quantitative real-time PCR targeting the T. gondii repeated element gene was also performed on the blood sample. Results: Out of all, 19.92%(55/276) and 2.17%(6/276) patients were seropositive for anti-Toxoplasma IgG and IgM Ab, respectively. Moreover, the presence of T. gondii DNA was observed in 12.31%(34/276) blood samples. A significant relationship was observed between the IgG Ab seropositivity and contact with the cat as a risk factor(P=0.022). Conclusions: The seroprevalence rate of T. gondii infection in pregnant women is relatively low. Consequently, the seronegative pregnant women are at risk, and a considerable rate of positive blood samples for the presence of parasite's DNA should not be ignored. Besides, quantitative real-time PCR could be considered as an accurate method for diagnosis of acute toxoplasmosis especially when the precise results are of the most importance in pregnancy. Limiting contact with cats is also suggested for pregnant women.

Modeling the effects of demand response on generation expansion planning in restructured power systems

Demand response is becoming a promising field of study in operation and planning of restructured power systems. More attention has recently been paid to demand response programs. Customers can contribute to the operation of power systems by deployment demand response. The growth of customers' participation in such programs may affect the planning of power systems. Therefore, it seems necessary to consider the effects of demand response in planning approaches. In this paper, the impact of demand responsiveness on decision making in generation expansion planning is modeled. Avoidance or deferment in installation of new generating units is comprehensively investigated and evaluated by introducing a new simple index. The effects of demand responsiveness are studied from the points of view of both customers and generation companies. The proposed model has been applied to a modified IEEE 30-bus system and the results of the study are discussed. Simulation results show that reducing just 3% of the customers' demand(due to price elasticity) may result in a benefit of about 10% for customers in the long term.

The sub-watershed prioritization is the ranking of different areas of a river basin according to their need to proper planning and management of soil and water *** makers should optimally allocate the investments to critical sub-watersheds in an economically effective and technically efficient ***,this study aimed at developing a user-friendly geographic information system(GIS)tool,Sub-Watershed Prioritization Tool(SWPT),using the Python programming language to decrease any possible *** used geospatial-statistical techniques for analyzing morphometric and topohydrological factors and automatically identifying critical and priority *** order to assess the capability and reliability of the SWPT tool,it was successfully applied in a watershed in the Golestan Province,Northern *** records of flood and landslide events indicated that the SWPT correctly recognized critical *** provided a cost-effective approach for prioritization of ***,the SWPT is practically applicable and replicable to other regions where gauge data is not available for each sub-watershed.
