The mid-infrared variability of the SDSS optical quasars

Based on the Seventh Data Release(DR7) quasar catalog from the Sloan Digital Sky Survey,we investigate the variability of optical quasars in W1,W2,W3 and W4 bands of the Wide-field Infrared Survey Explorer(WISE) and the Near-Earth Object Wide-field Infrared Survey Explorer(NEOWISE).Adopting the structure function(SF) method,we calculate the SF(δt = 1 yr) which shows no obvious correlations with the bolometric luminosity,the black hole mass and the Eddington *** ensemble SFs in W1 and W2 bands show that the SF slopes are steeper than those in previous studies which may be caused by different cadence and observational epoch *** further investigate the relation of variability amplitude σmbetween mid-infrared band and optical band,but no obvious correlation is *** correlation is found between W1–W2 and g-r *** think that the mid-infrared emission of quasars may be smoothed out by the extended dust distribution,thus leading to no obvious *** the radio-loud quasar sub-sample,we further analyze the relation between the variability amplitude in the mid-infrared band and the radio luminosity at 6 cm,but no obvious correlations are found,which indicate the mid-infrared emission contributed from the synchrotron radiation of the relativistic jet is very weak.

The shift in the percolation threshold of compressed composites was studied by a 3D continuum percolation model. A Monte Carlo (MC) method was employed in the simulations. The percolation threshold was found to rise with the compression strain, which captures the basic trend in compression-induced conductivity variation from the experiments. Both fiber bending and texture formation contribute to the percolation threshold. The results suggest that fillers with a high aspect ratio are more desirable for sensor and electrical switch applications.

Non-equilibrium molecular dynamics （MD） method was performed to simulate the thermal transporta- tion process in graphene nanoribbons （GNRs）. A convenient way was conceived to introduce tilt grain boundaries （GBs） into the graphene lattice by repetitive removing C atom rows along certain directions. Comprehensive MD simulations reveal that larger-angle GBs are effective thermal barriers and substantially reduce the average thermal conductivity of GNRs. The GB thermal conductivity is ~ 10 W-m-1 .K-l for a bicrystal GNR with a misorientation of 21.8%, which is -97 % less than that of a prefect GNR with the same size. The total thermal resistance has a monotonic dependence on the den- sity of the 5-7 defects along the GBs. A theoretical model is proposed to capture this relation and resolve the contribu- tions by both the reduction in the phonon mean free path and the defect-induced thermal resistance.

Background For some high myopic patients with posterior iris bowing, laser periphery iridectomy should be performed pre-operation to prevent pupil block glaucoma if these patients would have phakic intraocular lens implantation to correct high myopia. So we had the opportunity to analysis the influence of laser iridectomy on posterior iris bowing. Methods Eighteen high myopic patients with posterior iris bowing （11 males and 7 females） were involved in the study in Beijing Tongren Eye Center from March 2008 to July 2008. Phakic intraocular lens were implanted to correct their ametropia. The mean age was （32＋6） years （range, 25-40 years）. The center anterior chamber depth, the pupil diameter, the posterior iris bowing depth and the anterior chamber angle were measured with anterior segment coherence tomography （AS-OCT） under the normal condition, myosis condition induced by 2% pilocarpine, laser periphery iridectomy after myosis, and 2% pilocarpine eluting condition respectively. Results There was no significant difference of center anterior chamber depth under the four conditions （P=0.512）. The pupil constricted after pilocarpine （P=0.001）. After＇ laser iridectomy performed and pilocarpine eluted, posterior iris bowing depth reduced more than that in normal condition （P=0.003）. The anterior chamber angle reduced significantly after laser periphery iridectomy and pilocarpine eluted （P=0.012）. Conclusion Laser periphery iridectomy can reduce the posterior iris bowing, which might be due to the change in aqueous circulate pathway.

This study introduces a wheeled robot platform with jumping *** realize jump movement,a twisted string lever mechanism is used,which is characterized by its compactness and variable gear *** on robot modeling and parameter calculation,the twisted string actuator shows its advantage when applied to situations such as jumping of robots,where explosiveness of output force *** this study,a wheeled bipedal robot equipped with the twisted string actuator is designed and *** weighs 16.0 kg and can perform jumps when it encounters *** prototype can jump up to a stage with a maximum height of 1.0 m using electric power,which is approximately 1.5 times the height of its stretched legs.

Non-isothermal reduction process analysis of iron-bearing burden with charging iron coke hot briquette under simulated blast furnace conditions

Highly reactive iron coke hot briquette(ICHB)prepared by carbonizing the agglomerate of iron-bearing substance and blended coals is regarded as an alternative fuel to mitigate carbon emission and energy consumption of blast ***,the reduction process of iron-bearing burden is extremely crucial for blast furnace *** effects of ICHB on the non-isothermal reduction process of iron-bearing burden with different reduction properties were thus experimentally studied under the conditions of simulated blast furnace lump zone(below 1100°C),and the related mechanism was discussed and *** results showed that the non-isothermal reduction process of iron-bearing burden is promoted by adding *** the charging ratio of ICHB is increased from 0%to 30%,the reduction degree of pellet is increased from 22.91%to 36.62%,but the increased amplitude is leveled ***,the reduction degree of sinter is raised from 35.10%to 93.33%.It is also indicated that the promotion effect of ICHB on the non-isothermal reduction of iron-bearing burden depends on the reduction property of *** with the burden with poor reduction performance(such as pellet 1),the promotion is more significant for the burden with good reduction property(such as sinter 1)since the reduction reaction of iron oxide in iron-bearing burden and the gasification of carbon in ICHB are remarkably reinforced each *** practical application of ICHB in blast furnace should be utilized with highly reductive iron-bearing burden.

An intelligent wheelchair is devised, which is controlled by a coordinated mechanism based on a brain-computer interface(BCI) and speech recognition. By performing appropriate activities, users can navigate the wheelchair with four steering behaviors(start, stop, turn left, and turn right). Five healthy subjects participated in an indoor experiment. The results demonstrate the efficiency of the coordinated control mechanism with satisfactory path and time optimality ratios, and show that speech recognition is a fast and accurate supplement for BCI-based control systems. The proposed intelligent wheelchair is especially suitable for patients suffering from paralysis(especially those with aphasia) who can learn to pronounce only a single sound(e.g., ‘ah').

Gynecomastia, characterized by the growth of breast glandular tissue in boys, is occasionally seen inclinics. This growth can manifest at any age, but 40% of cases present in adolescent boys. Even though gynecomastia is a benign condition, patients are often emotionally burdened by this condition. The pathophysiological process of gynecomastia is mainly due to the imbalance between testosterone and free estrogen effects on the breast tissue, and hormone therapy. The disease is characterized by declined testosterone and slightly elevated estrogen.

TiB_(2)–Ni coatings with different binder phase contents were sprayed on Q235 substrate by a high-velocity oxygen-fuel(HVOF)method using ball-milled *** microstructure,phase compositions,as well as thermal shock behavior,abrasive wear,and corrosion resistance to molten Al-12.07 wt%Si alloy performances of as-sprayed coatings were *** results show that the three TiB_(2)–Ni coatings structure is dense with low porosity,and the main phase compositions of the coatings are TiB_(2) and Ni similar to those of original *** coatings that have superior performance of thermal shock resistance have good bond to the substrate with no change in thick-ness and microstructure of ***,the coat-ings also have good durability in the molten Al-12.07 wt%Si after 60-h immersion *** the mass loss of Q235 steel is five times as much as that of TiB_(2)–50Ni coatings after abrasive wear test.
