Extension of Noether's theorem in PT-symmetry systems and its experimental demonstration in an optical setup

Noether’s theorem is one of the fundamental laws in physics,relating the symmetry of a physical system to its constant of motion and conservation *** the other hand,there exist a variety of non-Hermitian parity-time(PT)-symmetric systems,which exhibit novel quantum properties and have attracted increasing *** this work,we extend Noether’s theorem to a class of significant PT-symmetry systems for which the eigenvalues of the PT-symmetry Hamiltonian HPTchange from purely real numbers to purely imaginary numbers,and introduce a generalized expectation value of an operator based on biorthogonal quantum *** find that the generalized expectation value of a time-independent operator is a constant of motion when the operator presents a standard symmetry in the PT-symmetry unbroken regime,or a chiral symmetry in the PT-symmetry broken *** addition,we experimentally investigate the extended Noether’s theorem in PT-symmetry single-qubit and two-qubit systems using an optical *** experiment demonstrates the existence of the constant of motion and reveals how this constant of motion can be used to judge whether the PT-symmetry of a system is ***,a novel phenomenon of masking quantum information is first observed in a PT-symmetry two-qubit *** study not only contributes to full understanding of the relation between symmetry and conservation law in PT-symmetry physics,but also has potential applications in quantum information theory and quantum communication protocols.

Improving testicular examinations on paediatric patients in the emergency department:A quality improvement study to improve early diagnosis of testicular torsion

Toxicity Tests of Soil Contaminated by Recycling of Scrap Plastics

The present investigation studied the toxicity of soil contaminated by untreated discharge from a factory that recycles used plastics. The nearby agricultural areas and freshwater fish ponds were polluted with high concentrations of Cu, Ni, and Mn. Water extracts from the contaminated soil retarded root growth of Brassica chinensis (Chinese white cabbage) and Cynodon dactylon (Bermuda grass) where their seeds were obtained commercially. The contaminated populations of C. dactylon, Panicum repen (panic grass), and Imperata cylindrica (wooly grass) were able to withstand higher concentrations of Cu. Ni, and Mn, especially C. dactylon, when compared with their uncontaminated counterparts. 1990 Academic Press, Inc.

Effect of Rorrico, extracted from group of Chinese medicines, on influenza A and H1N1 infections

OBJECTIVE: To investigate the therapeutic and preventive effects of Rorrico on influenza, especially influenza A viral infection, including swine flu(H1N1)in ***: Eighty-nine subjects were recruited in hong Kong and Macao, and divided into treatment group(TG) and prevention group(PG) based on their influenza A and swine flu symptoms. All subjects were prescribed Rorrico or placebo, and monitored by a Chinese medicine practitioner. Blood samples were collected before and after 7-day Rorrico or placebo treatment for laboratory ***: After treatment, there were some full recoveries and obvious relief of onset symptoms in the TG. Blood test results showed that Rorrico produced(a) no adverse effects on subjects' renal andliver functions, muscle enzyme and hematological status,(b) no up-regulation of pro-inflammatory cytokines tumour necrosis factor-a and interleukin-18 in both TG and PG,(c) mild yet statistically significant elevation of plasma mannose-binding lectin(MBL) in ***: Rorrico has no up-regulating effect on the participants' immune response, or, equally likely, the immuno-modulatory effects of Rorrico do not non-specifically or unnecessarily promote inflammation when not required. It is possible that oral administration of Rorrico can promote hepatic synthesis of MBL in healthy PG subjects, thereby conferring increased protection against infection.

Surgical management of high-grade pancreatic injuries: Insights from a high-volume pancreaticobiliary specialty unit

BACKGROUND The management of high-grade pancreatic trauma is *** To review our single-institution experience on the surgical management of blunt and penetrating pancreatic *** A retrospective review of records was performed on all patients undergoing surgical intervention for high-grade pancreatic injuries [American Association for the Surgery of Trauma(AAST) Grade Ⅲor greater] at the Royal North Shore hospital in Sydney between January 2001 and December 2022. Morbidity and mortality outcomes were reviewed, and major diagnostic and operative challenges were *** Over a twenty-year period, 14 patients underwent pancreatic resection for highgrade injuries. Seven patients sustained AAST Grade Ⅲinjuries and 7 were classified as Grades Ⅳ or Ⅴ. Nine underwent distal pancreatectomy and 5 underwent pancreaticoduodenectomy(PD). Overall, there was a predominance of blunt aetiologies(11/14). Concomitant intra-abdominal injuries were observed in 11 patients and traumatic haemorrhage in 6 patients. Three patients developed clinically relevant pancreatic fistulas and there was one in-hospital mortality secondary to multi-organ failure. Among stable presentations, pancreatic ductal injuries were missed in two-thirds of cases(7/12) on initial computed tomography imaging and subsequently diagnosed on repeat imaging or endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography. All patients who sustained complex pancreaticoduodenal trauma underwent PD without mortality. The management of pancreatic trauma is evolving. Our experience provides valuable and locally relevant insights into future management *** We advocate that high-grade pancreatic trauma should be managed in high-volume hepatopancreato-biliary specialty surgical units. Pancreatic resections including PD may be indicated and safely performed with appropriate specialist surgical, gastroenterology, and interventional radiology support in tertiary centres.

A general procedure for constructing multivariate non-tensor-product wavelets that gen- erate an orthogonal decomposition of L^2(R~),s≥ 1,is described and applied to yield explicit formulas for compactly supported spline-wavelets based on the multiresolution analysis of L^2(R^s),1≤s≤3,generated by any box spline whose direction set constitutes a unimodular *** particular,when univariate cardinal B-splines are considered,the minimally sup- ported cardinal spline-wavelets of chui and Wang are recovered.A refined computational scheme for the orthogonalization of spaces with compactly supported wavelets is given.A recursive approximation scheme for“truncated”decomposition sequences is developed and a sharp error bound is included.A condition on the symmetry or anti-symmetry of the wavelets is applied to yield symmetric box-spline wavelets.

Crocodile blood supplementation protect svascular function in diabetic mice

Cardiovascular disease is a major cause of mortality in diabetic patients due to the heightened oxidative stress and pro-inflammatory state in vascular *** approaches targeting cardiovascular health for diabetic patients are urgently *** blood,an emerging dietary supplement,was suggested to have anti-oxidative and anti-inflammatory effects in vitro,which have yet to be proven in animal *** study thereby aimed to evaluate whether crocodile blood can protect vascular function in diabetic mice against oxidation and *** db/db mice and their counterparts db/m+mice were treated daily with crocodile blood soluble fraction(CBSF)or vehicle via oral gavage for 4 weeks before their aortae were harvested for endothelium-dependent relaxation(EDR)quantification using wire myograph,which is a well-established functional study for vascular function *** culture experiments culturing mouse aortae from C57BL/6 J mice with or without IL-1βand CBSF were done to evaluate the direct effect of CBSF on endothelial *** oxygen species(ROS)levels in mouse aortae were assessed by dihydroethidium(DHE)staining with inflammatory markers in endothelial cells quantified by quantitative polymerase chain reaction(qPCR).CBSF significantly improved deteriorated EDR in db/db diabetic mice through both diet supplementation and direct culture,with suppression of ROS level in mouse *** also maintained EDR and reduced ROS levels in mouse aortae against the presence of pro-inflammatory IL-1β.Under the pro-inflammatory state induced by IL-1β,gene expressions of inflammatory cytokines were downregulated,while the protective transcripts UCP2 and SIRT6 were upregulated in endothelial *** study suggests a novel beneficial effect of crocodile blood on vascular function in diabetic mice and that supplementation of diet with crocodile blood may act as a complementary approach to protect against vascular diseases through anti
