The performances of the Color-Gradient(CG)and the Shan-Chen(SC)multicomponent Lattice Boltzmann models are quantitatively compared side-by-side on multiple physical flow problems where breakup,coalescence and contraction of fluid ligaments are *** flow problems are relevant to microfluidic applications,jetting of microdroplets as seen in inkjet printing,as well as emulsion dynamics.A significantly wider range of parameters is shown to be accessible for CG in terms of density-ratio,viscosity-ratio and surface tension *** stability for a high density ratio O(1000)is required for simulating the drop formation process during inkjet printing which we show here to be achievable using the CG model but not using the SC *** results show that the CG model is a suitable choice for challenging simulations of droplet formation,due to a combination of both numerical stability and physical *** also present a novel approach to incorporate repulsion forces between interfaces for CG,with possible applications to the study of stabilized ***,we show that the CG model can produce similar results to a known multirange potentials extension of the SC model for modelling a disjoining pressure,opening up its use for the study of dense stabilized emulsions.

We show that the lattice Boltzmann method(LBm)based color-gradient model with a central moments formulation(CG-Cm)is capable of accurately simulating the droplet-on-demand inkjetting process on a micrometer length scale by comparing it to the Arbitrary Lagrangian Eulerian Finite Element method(ALE-FEm).A full jetting cycle is simulated using both CG-Cm and ALE-FEmand results are quantitatively compared by measuring the ejected ink velocity,volume and contraction *** also show that the individual relevant physical phenomena are accurately captured by considering three test-cases;droplet oscillation,ligament contraction and capillary *** first two cases test accuracy for a dynamic system where surface tension is the driving force and the third case is designed to test wetting boundary *** the first two cases we also compare the CG-Cm and ALE-FEm results to Volume of Fluid(VOF)*** of the three methods shows close agreement when compared to each other and analytical solutions,where *** we demonstrate that asymmetric jetting is achievable using 3D CG-Cm simulations utilizing asymmetric wetting conditions inside the *** allows for systematic investigation into the physics of asymmetric jetting,*** to jet-nozzle manufacturing imperfections or due to other disturbances.

Suppression of Soybean Oleosin Produces micro-Oil Bodies that Aggregate into Oil Body/ER Complexes

Using RNAi, the seed oil body protein 24-kDa oleosin has been suppressed in transgenic soybeans. The endoplasmic reticulum （ER） forms micro-oil bodies about 50 nm in diameter that coalesce with adjacent oil bodies forming a hierarchy of oil body sizes. The oil bodies in the oleosin knockdown form large oil body-ER complexes with the interior dominated by micro-oil bodies and intermediate-sized oil bodies, while the peripheral areas of the complex are dominated by large oil bodies. The complex merges to form giant oil bodies with onset of seed dormancy that disrupts cell structure. The transcriptome of the oleosin knockdown shows few changes compared to wild-type. Proteomic analysis of the isolated oil bodies of the 24-kDa oleosin knockdown shows the absence of the 24-kDa oleosin and the presence of abundant caleosin and lipoxygenase. The formation of the micro-oil bodies in the oleosin knockdown is interpreted to indicate a function of the oleosin as a surfactant.

Antibiotic Resistance Profile of Enterococcus faecalis and Enterococcus faecium Isolates from Urine and Pleural Fluid in Two Hospitals of Cameroon

Enterococcus faecalis and Enterococcus faecium rank among the leading causes of nosocomial bacteremia and urinary tract infections. They often persist on hospital surfaces due to their ability to withstand adverse environmental conditions (low or high temperatures, high pH, and high salinity). The global Enterococcus faecalis-Enterococcus faecium ratio is currently shifting towards Enterococcus faecium. Enterococci present variable levels of resistance to certain families of antibiotics. This is the case for aminoglycosides, beta-lactams and cephalosporins. In 2017, WHO ranked Enterococci among priority pathogens for research and development of new antibiotics. The objective of our study was to determine the antibiotic resistance profile of Enterococcus faecalis and Enterococcus faecium isolates from urine and pleural fluid in two hospitals in Cameroon. This cross-sectional and analytic study was carried out between June to August 2023 on hospitalized and day patients in which a cytobacteriological test of urine and pleural fluid was done. The samples were inoculated on CLED Agar for urine and on Chocolate + polyvitex and blood agar (prepared from Columbia agar) for pleural fluid samples and incubated at 37℃ for 18 to 24 hours. Identification of isolates was carried out using the API 20 STREP micro gallery (Biomerieux, France) and tested for antimicrobial susceptibility. The data on socio-demographical and potential risk factors were recorded using self-administered questionnaires and data from laboratory analyses of the specimen were collected in a data capture sheet. Potential risk factors associated with the presence of Enterococci, were evaluated using the logistic regression in univariate and multivariate analysis. P value minantly females. Advances of stereotactic body radiotherapy in pancreatic cancer

Pancreatic cancer（PCA） is one of the most aggressive tumors with few effective treatment modalities. It is the 4th and 7th leading cause of cancer death in the United States and China, respectively. At the time of diagnosis, only 20% of cases present with a resectable tumor, and about 40% with a locally advanced tumor that is considered unresectable. Even resected patients still have a poor prognosis, with an incidence of local recurrence ranging from 20% to 60%. It is also reported that up to 30% of PCA patients die from locally obstructive disease with few or no distant metastases. These findings have highlighted the importance of local radiation therapy in the treatment of PCA. As the role of conventional chemoradiotherapy remains controversial, the dawn of the pancreas stereotactic body radiation therapy（SBRT） era represents a potential paradigm shift in the management of PCA. SBRT delivers a higher biological effective dose to the tumor with sharp dose escalation in a shorter treatment time course. Pancreas SBRT is a novel therapeutic option to achieve local tumor control with minimal toxicity. Herein, we review the advancement of SBRT for PCA patients with different stages of pancreatic adenocarcinoma.

Towards Cr（VI）-free anodization of aluminum alloys for aerospace adhesive bonding applications： A review

For more than six decades, chromic acid anodizing （CAA） has been the central process in the surface pre-treatment of aluminum for adhesively bonded aircraft structures. Unfortunately, this electrolyte contains hexavalent chromium （Cr（VI））, a compound known for its toxicity and carcinogenic properties. To comply with the new strict international regulations, the Cr（VI）-era will soon have to come to an end. Anodizing aluminum in acid electrolytes produces a self-ordered porous oxide layer. Although different acids can be used to create this type of structure, the excellent adhesion and corrosion resistance that is currently achieved by the complete Cr（VI）-based process is not easily matched. This paper provides a critical overview and appraisal of proposed alternatives to CAA, including combinations of multiple anodizing steps, pre- and post anodizing treatments. The work is presented in terms of the modifications to the oxide properties, such as morphological features （e.g., pore size, barrier layer thickness） and surface chemistry, in order to evaluate the link between fundamental principles of adhesion and bond performance.
