There is an increased global demand for activated carbon(AC)in application of water treatment and *** pollutants that have exhibited a greater removal efficiency by AC included but not limited to heavy metals,pharmaceuticals,pesticides,natural organic matter,disinfection by-products,and *** activated carbon(GAC)is mostly used in aqueous so-lutions and adsorption columns for water *** AC is not only costly,but also obtained from non-renewable *** has prompted the search for alternative renewable materials for AC *** wastes present a great potential of such materials because of their availability and carbonaceous *** in turn can reduce on the adverse environmental effects caused by poor disposal of these *** challenges associated with biomass waste based GAC are their low strength and attrition resistance which make them easily disintegrate under aqueous *** paper provides a comprehensive review on recent advances in production of biomass waste based GAC for water treatment and highlights future research *** parameters such as granulation conditions,use of binders,carbonization,activation methods,and their effect on textural properties are *** influencing the adsorption capacities of the derived GACs,adsorption models,adsorption mechanisms,and their regeneration potentials are *** literature reveals that biomass waste materials can produce GAC for use in water treatment with possibilities of being ***,there is a need to explore 1)the effect of preparation pathways on the adsorptive properties of biomass derived GAC,2)sustainable production of biomass derived GAC based on life cycle assessment and techno-economic analysis,and 3)adsorption mechanisms of GAC for removal of contaminants of emerging concerns such as microplastics and unregulated disinfection by-products.

Three novel triphenylamine-based D-A-r-A-featured dyes （Zl-Z3） have been designed, synthesized and characterized for use in dye-sensitized solar cells. Benzothiazole was incorporated as an additional acceptor, which greatly enhanced the molar ex- tinction coefficient of the dyes. Various conj.gated linkers, such as benzene, furan and thiophene, were also introduced to con- figure the novel D-A-n-A framework in order to prolong electron flow and active transportation. Among all dyes, Z2 contain- ing a thiophene linker exhibited the maximum overall conversion efficiency （r/） of 4.16% （j.c = 9.27 mA cm-2, Voc = 642 mV, FF = 0.70） under standard global AM 1.5 G solar condition.

Three novel diketopyrrolopyrrole （DPP） based small organic molecules were synthesized as hole transporting materials for perovskite solar cells. The effects of different donors and zr bridges on the performance of perovskite solar cells （PSCs） were discussed. The efficiency of TPADPP-1, TPADPP-2. PTZDPP-2 was 5.10%, 9.85% and 8.16% respectively. Compared to TPADPP-2, the voltage of PTZDPP-2 was higher. Because the electron-donatingability of phenothiazine based donor was larger than that of triphenylamine based donor, the HOMO level of PTZDPP-2 was lower than that of TPADPP-2. The results indicated that the diketopyrrolopyrrole based D-π-A-π-D type small organic molecule might be a promising hole trans- porting material in the perovskite solar cells.

AIM: To assess whether DNA methylation patterns in chronic alcoholics are different from non-alcoholic sibling controls. METHODS: We examined the methylation patterns in DNA samples from 25 chronic alcoholics and 22 matched siblings as controls (one per family). DNA was extracted from peripheral blood and analyzed for differences in the methylation patterns after bisulfite-conversion. We used the Illumina GoldenGate Methylation Cancer Panel I (Illumina, San Diego, CA), which probes the methylation profile at 1505 CpG sites from 807 cancer related genes. We excluded the 84 X-chromosome CpG sites and 134 autosomal CpG sites that failed to show a within sample reliability score of at least 95% for all samples, leaving 1287 autosomal CpG sites (associated with 743 autosomal genes) with reliable signals for all samples. A methylation score was calculated as the average methylation for the 1287 CpG sites examined. Differences were assessed by a two-sample t-test. We also examined the average sib pair differences in methylation scores at each of the 1287 sites. All analyses were performed using SPSS, version 9.0, P 5%. Subgroup analysis showed that methylation scores were significantly lower for the alcoholic-dependent subj.cts who smoked compared to their non-smoking unaffected siblings. Specifically, among smokers who are alcoholic, global methylation indices were significantly lower than in non-alcoholic sib controls, whereas among non-smoking alcoholics, the global indices were significantly higher (P = 0.008). Here,with local nutrition supply device,we revealed that NH-mediated inhibition of root elongation is primarily through root tip,whereas NH-mediated reduction of lateral root number is a result of shoot contact with ***,NH inhibition of root growth was shown to target primarily cell elongation,which was directly linked to excessive NH efflux in the root elongation zone,but not related to auxin *** NH efflux is regulated by GDP-mannose pyrophosphorylase(GMPase).On the other hand, NH-induced reduction of lateral root formation results from less lateral root emergence rather than lateral root initiation,which is caused by the decreased transport of shoot-derived auxin to roots,via the auxin influx carrier *** together,these results suggest regulations of primary root elongation and lateral root formation by NH is through local and systemic two independent *** findings provide a novel insight to regulations of root development by environmental nutrient factors.

Intensive agriculture activities,industrialization and growing numbers of wastewater treatment plants along river banks collectively contribute to the elevated levels of neurotoxic pollutants in natural water reservoirs across *** established an in vitro bioassay based upon neural stem cells isolated from the subventricular zone of the postnatal mouse to evaluate the neurotoxic potential of raw wastewater,treated sewage effluent,groundwater and drinking *** toxic potential of water samples was evaluated employing viability,proliferation,differentiation and migration *** found that raw wastewater could reduce the viability and proliferation of neural stem cells,and decreased the neuronal and astrocyte differentiation,neuronal neurite growth,astrocyte growth and cell *** sewage water also showed inhibitory effects on cell proliferation and *** results indicated that relatively high concentrations of nitrogenous substances,pesticides,mercuric compounds,bisphenol-A,and phthalates,along with some other pollutants in raw wastewater and treated sewage water,might be the reason for the neuroinhibitory effects of these water *** model successfully predicted the neurotoxicity of water samples collected from different sources and also revealed that the incomplete removal of contaminants from wastewater can be problematic for the developing nervous *** presented data also provides strong evidence that more effective treatments should be used to minimize the contamination of water before release into maj.r water bodies which may be considered as water reservoirs for human usage in the future.
