Qualification of Soybean Responses to Flooding Stress Using UAV-Based Imagery and Deep Learning

Soybean is sensitive to flooding stress that may result in poor seed quality and significant yield *** production under flooding could be sustained by developing flood-tolerant cultivars through breeding ***,soybean tolerance to flooding in field conditions is evaluated by visually rating the shoot injury/damage due to flooding stress,which is labor-intensive and subjective to human *** developments of field high-throughput phenotyping technology have shown great potential in measuring crop traits and detecting crop responses to abiotic and biotic *** goal of this study was to investigate the potential in estimating flood-induced soybean injuries using UAV-based image features collected at different flight *** flooding injury score(FIS)of 724 soybean breeding plots was taken visually by breeders when soybean showed obvious injury *** images were taken on the same day using a five-band multispectral and an infrared(IR)thermal camera at 20,50,and 80 m above *** image features,i.e.,canopy temperature,normalized difference vegetation index,canopy area,width,and length,were extracted from the images at three flight heights.A deep learning model was used to classify the soybean breeding plots to five FIS ratings based on the extracted image *** show that the image features were significantly different at three flight *** best classification performance was obtained by the model developed using image features at 20 m with 0.9 for the five-level *** results indicate that the proposed method is very promising in estimating FIS for soybean breeding.

Evaluation of high yielding soybean germplasm under water limitation

Limited information is available for soybean root traits and their plasticity under drought stress. to date, no studies have focused on examining diverse soybean germ- plasm for regulation of shoot and root response under water limited conditions across varying soil types. In this study, 17 genetically diverse soybean germplasm lines were selected to study root response to water limited conditions in clay （trial 1） and sandy soil （trial 2） in two target environments. Physiological data on shoot traits was measured at multiple crop stages ranging from early vegetative to pod filling. the phenotypic root traits, and biomass accumulation data are collected at pod filling stage. In trial 1, the number of lateral roots and forks were positively correlated with plot yield under water limitation and in trial 2, lateral root thickness was positively correlated with the hill plot yield. Plant Introduction （PI） 578477A and 088444 were found to have higher later root number and forks in clay soil with higher yield under water limitation, in sandy soil, P1458o2o was found to have a thicker lateral root system and higher yield under water limitation. the genotypes identified in this study could be used to enhance drought tolerance of elite soybean cultivars through improved root traits specific to target environments.

Nutrient-efficient root system architecture(RSA)is becoming an important breeding objective for generating crop varieties with improved nutrient and water acquisition *** variants shaping soybean RSA is key in improving nutrient and water ***,we report on the use of an improved 2-dimensional high-throughput root phenotyping platform that minimizes background noise by imaging pouch-grown root systems submerged in *** also developed a background image cleaning Python pipeline that computationally removes images of small pieces of debris and filter paper fibers,which can be erroneously quantified as root *** platform was used to phenotype root traits in 286 soybean lines genotyped with 5.4 million single-nucleotide *** was a substantially higher correlation in manually counted number of root tips with computationally quantified root tips(95%correlation),when the background was cleaned of nonroot materials compared to root images without the background corrected(79%).Improvements in our RSA phenotyping pipeline significantly reduced overestimation of the root traits influenced by the number of root ***-wide association studies conducted on the root phenotypic data and quantitative gene expression analysis of candidate genes resulted in the identification of 3 putative positive regulators of root system depth,total root length and surface area,and root system volume and surface area of thicker roots(DOF1-like zinc finger transcription factor,protein of unknown function,and C2H2 zinc finger protein).We also identified a putative negative regulator(gibberellin 20 oxidase 3)of the total number of lateral roots.

Aluminum(Al) toxicity is a major abiotic stress limiting crop yield in acidic soil. Al toxicity inhibits plant root growth and development, leading to insufficient uptake of water and nutrient from soil. Soybean is sensitive to Al toxicity, exhibiting impaired root growth under elevated Al concentrations. In this research, two soybean lines(Magellan and PI 567731) were identified to differ in Al tolerance represented by primary root length ratio(PRLatio), total root length ratio(tRLatio), and root tip number ratio(RtNatio) under 25 μM Al3+. the recombinant inbred line(RIL) population derived from the cross of these two lines exhibited high inheritance(0.65 to 0.85) in Al tolerance-related traits. the quantitative trait loci(QtL) mapping identified three QtL on chromosome(Chr.) 3, 13 and 20 associated with Al tolerancerelated traits. qAlm20 explained the largest phenotypic variation of ～ 27.4% and mainly played roles in maintaining root elongation. qAlm03 and q Alm13 were mapped as novel Al tolerance loci and predicted to be mainly involved in maintaining root tip initiation or root elongation under Al stress, respectively. Furthermore, the two major QtL(qAlm13 and qALm20) were confirmed using nearisogenic lines(NILs), and they seemed to regulate Al tolerance in tissue tolerance pathway instead of Al3+ exclusion or transport. the tolerant allele of qALm20 was identified as a rare allele, which has not been widely utilized in soybean breeding. Our results not only provided novel genetic resources for breeding Al tolerant soybean varieties, but also confirmed Al tolerance QtL in the NIL background and proposed the possible mechanisms underlying them.

通过对NK58S和NK58F这一对光敏核不育水稻等位突变系的AFLP分析,比较了AFLP,RAPD及RFLP检测DNA多态性的相对效率。结果表明,这三种分子标记的DNA多态性检出效率依次为AFLP>RAPD>RFLP;找出了水稻AFLP分析的最适反应条件;通过AFLP和集群混合分析(Bulkedsegregatinganalysis,BSA),筛选出了一批与水稻光敏核不育(PGMS)基因连锁的多态性AFLP产物,已完成了对4个多态性AFLP产物的克隆,Southern杂交证明其中2个为单拷贝顺序,另外2个为低拷贝顺序。对上述三种分子标记各自的优缺点及它们在DNA多态性检测中的适用之处进行了分析探讨。

Hemostatic agents for prehospital hemorrhage control: a narrative review

Hemorrhage is the leading cause of preventable death in combat trauma and the secondary cause of death in civilian trauma.A significant number of deaths due to hemorrhage occur before and in the first hour after hospital arrival.A literature search was performed through PubMed,Scopus,and Institute of Scientific Information databases for English language articles using terms relating to hemostatic agents,prehospital,battlefield or combat dressings,and prehospital hemostatic resuscitation,followed by cross-reference *** were screened to determine relevance and whether appropriate further review of the original articles was *** on these findings,this paper provides a review of a variety of hemostatic agents ranging from clinically approved products for human use to newly developed concepts with great potential for use in prehospital *** hemostatic agents can be administered either systemically or locally to stop bleeding through different mechanisms of *** of current hemostatic products and further directions for prehospital hemorrhage control are also discussed.

Evaluation of the use of surrogate Laminaria digitata in eco-hydraulic laboratory experiments

Inert surrogates can avoid husbandry and adaptation problems of live vegetation in laboratories. Surrogates are generally used for experiments on vegetation-hydrodynamics interactions, but it is unclear how well they replicate field conditions. Here, surrogates for the brown macroalgae Laminaria digitata were developed to reproduce its hydraulic roughness. Plant shape, stiffness and buoyancy of L. digitata were evaluated and compared to the properties of inert materials. Different surrogate materials and shapes were exposed to unidirectional flow. It is concluded that buoyancy is an important factor in low flow conditions and a basic shape might be sufficient to model complex shaped plants resulting in the same streamlined shape.

A correlation between pulse diagnosis of human body and health monitoring of structures

the concept of health monitoring is a key aspect of the field of medicine that has been practiced for a long time. A commonly used diagnostic and health monitoring practice is pulse diagnosis, which can be traced back approximately five thousand years in the recorded history of China. With advances in the development of modern technology, the concept of health monitoring of a variety of engineering structures in several applications has begun to attract widespread attention. Of particular interest in this study is the health monitoring of civil structures. It seem natural, and even beneficial, that these two health-monitoring methods, one as applies to the human body and the other to civil structures, should be analyzed and compared. In this paper, the basic concepts and theories of the two monitoring methods are first discussed. Similarities are then summarized and commented upon. It is hoped that this correlation analysis may help provide structural engineers with some insights into the intrinsic concept of using pulse diagnosis in human health monitoring, which may of be some benefit in the development of modern structural health monitoring methods.
