In this study, we prove the of existence of solutions of a convolution Volterra integral equation in the space of the lebesgue integrable function on the set of positive real numbers and with the standard norm defined on it. An operator P was assigned to the convolution integral operator which was later expressed in terms of the superposition operator and the nonlinear operator. Given a ball bb>rb> belonging to the space l it was established that the operator P maps the ball into itself. The Hausdorff measure of noncompactness was then applied by first proving that given a set M∈ b r the set is bounded, closed, convex and nondecreasing. Finally, the Darbo fixed point theorem was applied on the measure obtained from the set E belonging to M. From this application, it was observed that the conditions for the Darbo fixed point theorem was satisfied. This indicated the presence of at least a fixed point for the integral equation which thereby implying the existence of solutions for the integral equation.

A compact time delay unit is fundamental to integrated photonic circuits with applications in,for example,optical beam-forming networks,photonic equalization,and finite and infinite impulse response optical filtering.In this paper,we report a novel gain-enabled delay readout system using a tunable optical carrier,low-frequency RF signal and CMOS-compatible photodetectors,suitable for silicon photonic integration.The characterization method relies on direct phase measurement of an input RF signal and thereafter extraction of the delay profile.both integrated silicon and germanium photodetectors coupled with low-bandwidth electronics are used to characterize a microring resonator-based,true-time delay unit under distinct ring–bus coupling formats.The detectors,used in both linear and avalanche mode,are shown to be successful as optical-to-electrical converters and RF amplifiers without introducing significant phase distortion.For a Si–Ge separate-absorption-charge-multiplication avalanche detector,an RF amplification of 10 db is observed relative to a Ge PIN linear detector.An all-silicon defect-mediated avalanche photodetector is shown to have a 3 db RF amplification compared to the same PIN detector.All ring delay measurement results are validated by full-wave simulation.Additionally,the impact of photodetector biasing and system linearity is analyzed.

Even mildly hypothermic body or limb temperatures can retard healing processes in mammals.Despite this,we observed that hibernating American black bears(Ursus americanus Pallas,1780)elicit profound abilities in mounting inflammatory responses to infection and/or foreign bodies.In addition,they resolve injuries during hibernation while maintaining mildly hypothermic states(30–35°C)and without eating,drinking,urinating or defecating.We describe experimental studies on free-ranging bears that document their abilities to completely resolve cutaneous cuts and punctures incurred during or prior to hibernation.We induced small,full-thickness cutaneous wounds(biopsies or incisions)during early denning,and re-biopsied sites 2–3 months later(near the end of denning).Routine histological methods were used to characterize these skin samples.All biopsied sites with respect to secondary intention(open circular biopsies)and primary intention(sutured sites)healed,with evidence of initial eschar(scab)formation,completeness of healed epidermis and dermal layers,dyskeratosis(inclusion cysts),and abilities to produce hair follicles.These healing abilities of hibernating black bears are a clear survival advantage to animals injured before or during denning.bears are known to have elevated levels of hibernation induction trigger(delta-opioid receptor agonist)and ursodeoxycholic acid(major bile acid within plasma,mostly conjugated with taurine)during hibernation,which may relate to these wound-healing abilities.Further research as to the underlying mechanisms of wound healing during hibernation could have applications in human medicine.Unique approaches may be found to improve healing for malnourished,hypothermic,diabetic and elderly patients or to reduce scarring associated with burns and traumatic injuries.

Purpose'. To identify co-produced multi-stakeholder perspectives important for successful widespread physically active learning (PAl) adoptionand implementation.Methods: A total of 35 stakeholders (policymakers ≪ = 9;commercial education sector, ≪ = 8;teachers, w = 3;researchers, w = 15) attended adesign thinking PAl workshop. Participants formed 5 multi-disciplinary groups with at least 1 representative from each stakeholder group. Eachgroup, facilitated by a researcher, undertook 2 tasks: (1) using Post-it Notes, the following question was answered: within the school day, whatare the opportunities for learning combined with movement? and (2) structured as a washing-line task, the following question was answered:how can we establish PAl as the norm? All discussions were audio-recorded and transcribed. Inductive analyses were conducted by 4 authors.After the analyses were complete, the main themes and subthemes were assigned to 4 predetermined categories: (1) PAl design and implementation,(2) priorities for practice, (3) priorities for policy, and (4) priorities for research.Results'. The following were the main themes for PAl implementation: opportunities for PAl within the school day, delivery environments,learning approaches, and the intensity of PAl. The main themes for the priorities for practice included teacher confidence and competence,resources to support delivery, and community of practice. The main themes for the policy for priorities included self-governance, the Office forStandards in Education, Children's Services, and Skill, policy investment in initial teacher training, and curriculum reform. The main themes forthe research priorities included establishing a strong evidence base, school-based PAl implementation, and a whole-systems approach.Conclusion-. The present study is the first to identify PAl implementation factors using a combined multi-stakeholder perspective. To achievewider PAl adoption and implementation, future interventions should be evidence based and address implementation factors

We demonstrate 5db net gain in an erbium-doped tellurium-oxide-coated silicon nitride waveguide.The amplifier design leverages the high refractive index and high gain in erbium-doped tellurite glass as well as the ultralow losses and mature,reliable,and low-cost fabrication methods of silicon nitride waveguide technology.We show that the waveguide platform demonstrates low background propagation losses of 0.25db/cm based on a ring resonator device with a Q factor of 1.3×10^6 at 1640 nm.We measure 5db peak net gain at 1558 nm and>3db of net gain across the C band in a 6.7 cm long waveguide for 35 m W of launched 1470 nm pump power.Gain per unit length of 1.7 and 1.4db/cm is measured in a 2.2 cm long waveguide for 970 and 1470 nm pump wavelengths,respectively.Amplifier simulations predict that>10db gain can be achieved across the C band simply by optimizing waveguide length and fiber-chip coupling.These results demonstrate a promising approach for the monolithic integration of compact erbium-doped waveguide amplifiers on silicon nitride chips and within silicon-based photonic integrated circuits.

Inert surrogates can avoid husbandry and adaptation problems of live vegetation in laboratories. Surrogates are generally used for experiments on vegetation-hydrodynamics interactions, but it is unclear how well they replicate field conditions. Here, surrogates for the brown macroalgae laminaria digitata were developed to reproduce its hydraulic roughness. Plant shape, stiffness and buoyancy of l. digitata were evaluated and compared to the properties of inert materials. Different surrogate materials and shapes were exposed to unidirectional flow. It is concluded that buoyancy is an important factor in low flow conditions and a basic shape might be sufficient to model complex shaped plants resulting in the same streamlined shape.

AIM To investigate the survival impact of clinicopathological factors, including pathological complete response(p CR) and tumor-infiltrating lymphocytes(s TIl) levels according to subtypes, in breast cancer(bC) patients who received neo-adjuvant chemotherapy(NAC).METHODS We evaluated 435 bC patients who presented and received NAC at the Instituto Nacional de Enfermedades Neoplasicas from 2003 to 2014. s TIl was analyzed as the proportion of tumor stroma occupied by lymphocytes, and was prospectively evaluated on hematoxylin and eosin-stained sections of the preN AC core biopsy. p CR was considered in the absence of infiltrating cancer cells in primary tumor and axillary lymph nodes. Analysis of statistical association between clinical pathological features, s TIl, p CR and survival were carried out using SPSSvs19.RESUlTS Median age was 49 years(range 24-84 years) and the most frequent clinical stage was Ⅲb(58.3%). luminal A, luminal b, HER2-enriched and(triple-negative) TN phenotype was found in 24.6%, 37.9%, 17.7% and 19.8%, respectively. p CR was observed in 11% and median percentage of s TIl was 40%(2%-95%) in the whole population. p CR was associated to Ct1-2(P = 0.045) and to high s TIl(P = 0.029) in the whole population. There was a slight trend towards significance for s TIl(P = 0.054) in luminal A. s TIl was associated with grade Ⅲ(P luminal A subtype(P le population. longer disease-free survival was associated with grade Ⅰ-Ⅱ(P = 0.006), cN 0(P linical stage Ⅱ(P = 0.004), ER-positive(P luminal A(P longer disease-free survival was associated with grade Ⅰ-Ⅱ in luminal A(P luminal A(P = 0.045) and TNbC(P = 0.01), clinical stage Ⅱ in luminal A(P = 0.003) and TNbC(P = 0.038), and pC R in TNbC(P longer overall survival was associated with grade Ⅰ-Ⅱ(P < 0.001), ER-positive(P < 0.001),

Silicon photonics is coming of age;however,it is still lacking a monolithic platform for optical sources and nonlinear functionalities prompting heterogeneous integration of different materials tailored to different applications.Here we demonstrate tellurium oxide as a complementary metal oxide semiconductor silicon photonics platform for nonlinear functionalities,which is already becoming an established platform for sources and amplifiers.We show broadband supercontinuum generation covering the entire telecom window and show for the first time to our knowledge third-harmonic generation in its integrated embodiment.Together with the nowavailable lasers and amplifiers on integrated Te O_(2) this work paves the way for a monolithic TeO_(2)-based nonlinear silicon photonics platform.
