On-Chip Micro Temperature Controllers Based on Freestanding Thermoelectric Nano Films for Low-Power Electronics

Multidimensional integration and multifunctional com-ponent assembly have been greatly explored in recent years to extend Moore’s Law of modern ***,this inevitably exac-erbates the inhomogeneity of temperature distribution in microsystems,making precise temperature control for electronic components extremely ***,we report an on-chip micro temperature controller including a pair of thermoelectric legs with a total area of 50×50μm^(2),which are fabricated from dense and flat freestanding Bi2Te3-based ther-moelectric nano films deposited on a newly developed nano graphene oxide membrane *** tunable equivalent thermal resistance is controlled by electrical currents to achieve energy-efficient temperature control for low-power electronics.A large cooling temperature difference of 44.5 K at 380 K is achieved with a power consumption of only 445μW,resulting in an ultrahigh temperature control capability over 100 K mW^(-1).Moreover,an ultra-fast cooling rate exceeding 2000 K s^(-1) and excellent reliability of up to 1 million cycles are *** proposed on-chip temperature controller is expected to enable further miniaturization and multifunctional integration on a single chip for microelectronics.

Dear Editor,Colorectal cancer(CRC)is the third most deadly can-cer worldwide[1].The mortality of CRC has remained high due to limited treatment options for metastatic CRC(mCRC)[2].Epithelial-mesenchymal transition(EMT)is an important contributor to mCRC[2].The c-MYC proto-oncogene(MYC)-induced transcription factor AP4(TFAP4/AP4)isadriverofEMT,therebypresumablyfacil-itates mCRC[3,4].The mitogen-activated protein kinase(MAPK)/c-junN-terminalkinase(jNK)/activatorprotein-1(AP-1)pathway has been implicated in the regulation of EMT and mCRC[5].

Aims:Although the application of ultrasound-guided vascular puncture and Z-stitch hemostasis to manage femoral access has been widely utilized,there is limited data on this combined application in adult congenital heart disease(ACHD)patients undergoing electrophysiological(EP)*** sought to evaluate the safety and efﬁcacy of ultrasound-guided puncture and postprocedural Z-stitch hemostasis for ACHD patients under-going EP *** and Results:The population of ACHD patients undergoing transfemoral EP pro-cedures at the University of Zurich Heart Center between january 2019 and December 2022 was observed and *** the study period,femoral access(left/right,arterial/venous)was performed under real-time ultrasound *** the end of the procedure,a single Z-stitch was performed at the puncture *** eval-uated the incidence of in-hospital complications associated with femoral access puncture in this *** 101 patients who had a total of 147 previous ipsilateral vascular punctures(mean 1.5 per person),100 patients underwent successful femoral vascular access for EP *** median age of the patients was 47±15 years and 34(34%)were male.Z-stitches were performed after the procedure in 100 patients with 303 femoral vascular accesses(mean 3 punctures per person).No patient developed vascular puncture relevant inguinal hematoma,pseudo aneurysm,arteriovenousﬁstula,venous or arterial ***:In ACHD patients undergoing EP procedures,optimal femoral access management can be achieved with ultra-sound-guided puncture and postprocedural Z-stitch hemostasis.

A recent review article("The hyperpycnite problem") by Shanmugam(journal of Palaeogeography 7(3):197–238,2018) in this journal has some shortcomings, comes to scientifically incorrect conclusions, and calls for student education in a way that would significantly diminish the students’ changes for a geological career. Having studied--and still studying--hyperpycnites in the field, it seems only appropriate to inform the readers of this journal about our concerns regarding the review article mentioned ***, the article by Shanmugam(journal of Palaeogeography 7(3):197–238, 2018) is not a review paper but rather a comment, criticizing al researchers who have come to the conclusion, on the basis of both field research and theory,that hyperpycnal flows result in sediments(hyperpycnites) with characteristics that make it possible to distinguish them from deposits formed in another way. This is also the essence of Shanmugam’s comment: as he states himself, he is"an ardent critic of al genetic facies models".

Cancer cells show characteristic alterations in DNA methylation patterns. Aberrant CpG methylation of specificpromoters results in inactivation of tumor suppressor genes and therefore plays an important role in carcinogenesis. Thep53-regulated gene 14-3-3σ undergoes frequent epigenetic silencing in several types of cancer, including carcinoma ofthe breast, prostate, and skin, suggesting that the loss of 14-3-3σ expression may be causally involved in tumor *** studies demonstrated that 14-3-3σ is involved in cell-cycle control and prevents the accumulation of chro-mosomal damage. The recent identification of novel 14-3-3σ-associated proteins by a targeted proteomics approachimplies that 14-3-3σ regulates diverse cellular processes, which may become deregulated after silencing of 14-3-3σexpression in cancer cells.

Empirical Model for the Quantitative Prediction of Losses of Radial Fans based on CFD Calculations

In a classical layout process of a fan the quantity of losses is estimated as a sum and expressed in the overall efficiency rote However the characteristic of the pressure rise, the losses and the efficiency rate beside the design point is not known. Against this background a numerical model was developed to calculate quantitative values of occurring losses at radial fan impellers at an early stage in the design process. It allows to estimate the pressure rise and efficiency rate of a given fan geometry at and beside the design point. The physics of losses are described in literature, but obtaining quantitative values is still a challenge. As common in hydraulic theory the losses are calculated with analytic formulas supported by coefficients and efficiency rates, which have to be determined empirically. This paper shows the method how to determine the coefficients for a given radial fan. Therefore a representative radial fan with backward curved blades was designed in reference to classical design guidelines. Performance measuring was done conform to ISO 5801. The flow was calculated at 8 different operation points using CFD methods. The RANS equations are solved by using the SST-k-omega turbulence model. The flow do- main consists of one blade section including inlet channel and outflow chamber. Spatial discretization is done by a block-structured mesh of approx. 1.8 million cells. Performance data show a very good agreement between measurement and calculation.

X-ray absorption spectroscopy(XAS)is a well-established method for in-depth characterization of electronic *** practice hundreds of energy-points should be sampled during the measurements,and most of them are ***,it is also tedious to estimate reasonable parameters in the atomic Hamiltonians for mechanistic *** implement an Adversarial Bayesian optimization(ABO)algorithm comprising two coupled BOs to automatically fit the many-body model Hamiltonians and to sample effectively based on active learning(AL).Taking NiO as an example,we find that less than 30 sampling points are sufficient to recover the complete XAS with the corresponding crystal field and charge transfer models,which can be selected based on intuitive hypothesis *** applications on the experimental XAS spectra reveal that less than 80 sampling points give reasonable XAS and reliable atomic model *** ABO algorithm has a great potential for future applications on automated physics-driven XAS analysis and AL sampling.
