Objective:To examine the antiplatelet and antithrombotic activity of Rumex acetosella ***:Standard light aggregometry was used for platelet aggregation,intracellular calcium mobilization assessed using Fura-2/AM,granule secretion(ATP release)by luminometer,and fibrinogen binding to integrin α_(Ⅱb)β_(3) detected using flow *** blotting is carried out to determine the phosphorylation of mitogen-activated protein kinase(MAPK)and phosphoinositide 3-kinase(PI3K)/Akt ***:Rumex acetosella displayed the ability to inhibit platelet aggregation,calcium mobilization,granule secretion,and fibrinogen binding to integrin α_(Ⅱb)β_(3).Rumex acetosella has also down-regulated MAPK and PI3K/Akt phosphorylation(all P<0.01).Conclusion:Rumex acetosella extract exhibits antiplatelet activity via modulating GPVI signaling,and it may protect against the development of platelet-related cardiovascular diseases.

Process control factors for continuous microbial perchlorate reduction in the presence of zero-valent iron

Process control parameters influencing microbial perchlorate reduction via a flow-through zero-valent iron （ZVI） column reactor were investigated in order to optimize perchlorate removal from water. Mixed perchlorate reducers were obtained from a wastewater treatment plant and inoculated into the reactor without further acclimation. Examined parameters included hydraulic residence time （HRT）, pH, nutrients requirement, and perchlorate reduction kinetics. The minimum HRT for the system was concluded to be 8 hr. The removal efficiency of 10 mg. L-1 influent perchlorate concentration was reduced by 20%-80% without control to the neutral pH （HRT = 8 hr）. Therefore pH was determined to be an important parameter for microbial perchlorate reduction. Furthermore, a viable alternative to pH buffer was discussed. The microbial perchlorate reduction followed the first order kinetics, with a rate constant （K） of 0.761 hr-1. The results from this study will contribute to the implementation of a safe, cost effective, and efficient system for perchlorate reduction to below regulated levels.

The influence of pre-strain on the formation of bimodal grain structures and tensile properties of a Co-20 Cr-15 W-10 Ni alloy was *** bimodal grain structures consist of fine grains(FGs;2-3μm in diameter)and coarse grains(CGs;8-16μm in diameter),which can be manipulated by changing the pre-strain(ε=0.3-0.7)and annealing temperatures(1000-1100℃).High pre-strain applied in the samples can intensify the plasticity heterogeneity through increasing the total dislocation density and the local volumes of high-density *** can essentially result in finer FGs,a higher FG volume fraction,and overall grain refinement in the samples after ***-temperature essentially increases both the size and volume fraction of CGs,leading to an increase in the average grain *** tensile test suggests that the bimodal grain structured samples exhibited both high strength and ductility,yield strengths of621-877 MPa and ultimate tensile strengths of1187-1367 MPa with uniform elongations of 55.0%-71.4%.The superior strength-ductility combination of the samples arises from the specific deformation mechanisms of the bimodal grain *** tensile properties strongly depend on the size ratio and volume fraction of FGs/CGs in addition to the average grain size in the bimodal grain *** grain structures can be modified via changing the pre-strain and annealing temperature.

Soft robotics with new designs, fabrication technologies and control strategies inspired by nature have been totally changing our view on *** fully exploit their potential in practical applications, untethered designs are preferred in ***, hindered by the limited thermal/mechanical performance of soft materials, it has been always challenging for researchers to implement untethered solutions, which generally involve rigid forms of high energy-density power sources or high energy-density processes.A number of insects in nature, such as rove beetles, can gain a burst of kinetic energy from the induced surface-energy gradient on water to return to their familiar habitats, which is generally known as Marangoni *** by such a behavior, we report the agile untethered mobility of a fully soft robot in liquid based on induced energy gradients and also develop corresponding fabrication and maneuvering *** robot can reach a speed of 5.5 body lengths per second, which is 7-fold more than the best reported, 0.69(body length per second), in the previous work on untethered soft robots in liquid by *** controlling the robots, we demonstrate a soft-robot swarm that can approach a target simultaneously to assure a hit with high *** employing any high energy-density power sources or processes, our robot exhibits many attractive merits, such as quietness, no mechanical wear, no thermal fatigue, invisibility and ease of robot fabrication, which may potentially impact many fields in the future.

BACKGROUND： Acute cholangitis in old people is a cause of mortality and prolonged hospital stay. We evaluated the effects of methods and timing of biliary drainage on the outcomes of acute cholangitis in elderly and very elderly patients. METHODS： We analyzed 331 patients who were older than 75 years and were diagnosed with acute calculous cholangitis. They were admitted to our hospital from 2009 to 2014. Patients＇ demographics, severity grading, methods and timing of biliary drainage, mortality, and hospital stay were retrospectively obtained from medical records. Clinical parameters and outcomes were compared between elderly （75-80 years, n= 156） and very elderly （≥81 years, n=175） patients. We analyzed the effects of methods [none, endoscopic retrograde cholangio- pancreatography （ERCP）, percutaneous transhepatic biliary drainage, or failure] and timing （urgent or early） of biliary drainage on mortality and hospital stay in these patients. RESULTS： Acute cholangitis in older patients manifested as atypical symptoms characterized as infrequent charcot＇s triad （4.2%） and comorbidity in one-third of the patients. Patients were graded as mild, moderate, and severe cholangitis in 104 （31.4%）, 175 （52.9%）, and 52 （15.7%）, respectively. Urgent bili-ary drainage （≤24 hours） was performed for 80.5% （247/307） of patients. Very elderly patients tended to have more severe grades and were treated with sequential procedures of transient hiliary drainage and stone removal at different sessions. Hospital stay was related to methods and timing of biliary drainage. Mortality was very low （1.5%） and not related to patient age but rather to the success or failure of biliary drainage and severity grading of the acute cholangitis. CONCLUSIONS： The methods and timing used for biliary drainage and severity of cholangitis are the major determinants of mortality and hospital stay in elderly and very elderly patients with acute cholangitis.
