Lyme disease(LD),caused by Borrelia burgdorferi,is themost common vector-borne disease in the United states and *** the standard 2–4 weeks'antibiotic treatment,approximately 10%–20%of patients will develop posttreatment LD syndrome,a condition that is poorly *** of the probable causes is thought to be the presence of *** persister forms that are not effectively killed by the current LD *** this study,we evaluated nitroxoline,an antibiotic used to treat urinary tract infections,for its activity against a stationary-phase culture enriched with persister forms of *** was found to be more active than doxycycline and equally active as cefuroxime(standard LD antibiotics)against ***,the nitroxoline two-drug combinations nitroxoline+cefuroxime and nitroxoline+clarithromycin,as well as the nitroxoline three-drug combination nitroxoline+cefuroxime+clarithromycin,were as effective as the persister drug daptomycin-based positive control three-drug combination cefuroxime+doxycycline+daptomycin,completely eradicating stationary-phase *** in the drug-exposure experiments and preventing regrowth in the subculture *** studies should evaluate these promising drug combinations in a persistent LD mouse model.

Phase change materials(PCMs) designate materials able to store latent *** change state from solid to liquid over a defined temperature *** process is reversible and can be used for thermo-technical *** present paper aims to study the thermal performance of an inorganic eutectic PCM integrated into the rooftop slab of a test room and analyze its potential for building thermal *** experiment is conducted in two test rooms in Antofagasta(Chile) during summer,fall,and *** PCM is integrated into the rooftop of the first test room,while the roof panel of the second room is a sealed air *** work introduces a numerical model,which is built using the finite difference method and used to simulate the rooms' thermal *** thermal simulations of the PCM room are performed for other Chilean locations to evaluate and compare the capability of the PCM panel to store latent heat thermal energy in different *** show that the indoor temperature of the PCM room in Antofagasta varies only 21.1℃±10.6℃,while the one of the air-panel room varies 28.3℃±18.5℃.Under the experiment's conditions,the PCM room's indoor temperature observes smoother diurnal fluctuations,with lower maximum and higher minimum indoor temperatures than that of the air-panel *** simulations in other cities show that the PCM panel has a better thermal performance during winter,as it helps to maintain or increase the room temperature by some degrees to reach comfort *** demonstrates that the implementation of such PCM in the building envelope can effectively reduce space heating and cooling needs,and improve indoor thermal comfort in different climates of Chile.

The evolution and maintenance of color clines is a classic topic of research in evolutionary ***,studies analyzing the temporal dynamics of such clines are much less frequent,due to the difficulty of obtaining reliable data about past color distributions along environmen-tal *** this article,we describe a case of decades-long temporal stability and directional change in a color cline of the marine snail Littorina saxatilis along the coastal inlet of the Ria de Vigo(NW spain).*** from this area shows a clear color cline with 3 distinct areas from the innermost to the more wave-exposed localities of the Ria:the inner,protected localities show an abundance of fawn-like individuals;the intermediate localities show a high diversity of colors;and the outer,wave-exposed localities show populations with a high frequency of a black and lineated *** compare data from the 1970s and 2022 in the same localities,showing that the cline has kept relatively stable for at least over half a century,except for some directional change and local variability in the frequency of certain *** regression analyses and biodiversity measures are presented to provide clues into the selective pressures that might be involved in the maintenance of this color *** research avenues to properly test the explanatory power of these selective agents as well as the possible origins of the cline are discussed.

Highly specific interactions between biomolecules,such as antigen-antibody,protein-ligand,or nucleic acid base pair complementary are on the basis of the organization of complex *** same principles may be tentatively used in molecular medicine for diagnosis and therapeutics.A molecule can be designed to selectively bind a protease and thereby inhibit the production of a peptide that forms toxic aggregates in the brain or an antibody may be produced to bind specifically to that peptide for detection or clearance ***,interference in biological systems is not that *** a start there is the inhibition of the physiological role of the protease;moreover,several cleavage fragments may be produced,which may continue to diverge due to putative post-translational modification and self-assembly processes,hiding the toxic target in a“soup”of peptide species varying in size,structure and chemical composition.A perspective of the current status and challenges in targeting peptide species for diagnosis and treatment in the context of Alzheimer’s disease is given.

The aim of this study was to present the epidemiological, clinical and therapeutic aspects of adult urological cancers in the department of urology at Zinder National Hospital. Patients and Methods: This was a cross-sectional study of adult primary urologic cancers during the period of January 2019 to December 2023. Data were obtained from the record of patients admitted to urology, and the medical oncology department. The parameters studied were;frequency, age, sex, urogenital distribution, anatomopathological type, and therapeutic aspects. Data were recorded on Excel 2013 and analyzed with Epi-info version 7.2.5. Results: Epidemiology: About 289 cancers were diagnosed through 6017 consultations during the period, corresponding to 4.80% of urological pathologies: prostate cancer (n = 221;76.47%), bladder cancer (n = 46;15.92%), kidney cancer (n = 13;04.5%), testis cancer (n = 09;03.11%). Median age of patients was 50.42 years. Prostate cancer: was Adenocarcinoma in 100% (n = 221) with Gleason scores > 7 (77.83%) and prostatique specific antigen (PsA) > 20 ng/ml in 90.04%. Extension evaluation 134 cases (60.63%). Treatment was chirurgical castration in (62.44%) and resistance to castration appeared between 8 and 11 months. Hospital mortality for prostate cancer was 16.29%. Bladder cancer was found in 46 cases with sex ratio 7/1. Cystoscopy was performed for all. Histology revealed squamous cell carcinoma (n = 41;89.13%), and (n = 5;10.87%) urothelial. Endoscopic resection performed (n = 14;30.43%). Kidney cancers were 13 cases (10 men, 03 women). Nephrectomy was performed in (n = 8;61.54%) cases and Histology revealed renal cell cancer in 76.92%. Testicular cancers were diag 09 cases. History of cryptorchidism was found in 4 cases, 4-year infertility in 3 cases. Orchidectomy was done in all cases. Chemotherapy in 3 cases. Conclusion: urological cancers are frequent, dominated by prostate cancer. The endemicity of bilharziasis has increased squamous cell carcinoma. T

The bamboo industry in Central Luzon holds significant promise for economic development and environmental sustainability. This study aims to analyze the internal and external factors influencing the bamboo industry in the region through sWOT and PEsTLE analyses. Based on a focus group discussion involving key industry players, the study explores the industry’s strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats, as well as political, economic, social, technological, legal, and environmental factors. Findings reveal the importance of comprehensive strategies that address political stability, economic growth, consumer awareness, technological advancement, legal compliance, and environmental sustainability. Recommendations include capacity-building for production and marketing, the establishment of bamboo treatment facilities, and advocacy for supportive policies. By addressing these factors, the bamboo industry in Central Luzon can realize its potential for socio-economic development and environmental stewardship.

This article presents an update on the variable prognostic significance of different sperm pathologies in patients with severe male factor infertility due to morphology and motility disorders. severe asthenozoospermia is one of the leading causes of male infertility as spermatozoa cannot reach the oocyte and/or penetrate normally. Identifying structural causes of sperm immotility was of great concern before the advent of intracytoplasmic sperm injection （ICsI）, because immotility was the limiting factor in the treatment of these patients. In these cases, in vitro methods are used to identify live spermatozoa or stimulate sperm motility to avoid selection of non-viable cells. With these advances, fertilization and pregnancy results have improved dramatically. The identification of genetic phenotypes in asthenozoospermia is important to adequately inform patients of treatment outcomes and risks. The one sperm characteristic that seriously affects fertility prognosis is teratozoospermia, primarily sperm head and neck anomalies. Defects of chromatin condensation and acrosomal hypoplasia are the two most common abnormalities in severe teratozoospermia. The introduction of microscopic methods to select spermatozoa and the development of new ones to evaluate sperm quality before ICsI will assure that ultrastructural identification ofsperm pathologies will not only be of academic interest, but will also be an essential tool to inform treatment choice. Herein, we review the differential roles played by sperm components in normal fertilization and early embryo development and explore how assisted reproductive technologies have modified our concepts on the prognostic significance of sperm pathologies affecting the head, neck, mid-piece and tail.
