A Credit-Based Approach for Overcoming Free-Riding Behaviour in Peer-to-Peer Networks

The underlying premise of peer-to-peer(P2P)systems is the trading of digital resources among individual peers to facilitate file sharing,distributed computing,storage,collaborative applications and multimedia ***-called free-riders challenge the foundations of this system by consuming resources from other peers without offering any resources in return,hindering resource exchange among ***,immense effort has been invested in discouraging free-riding and overcoming the ill effects of such unfair use of the ***,previous efforts have all fallen short of effectively addressing free-riding behaviour in P2P *** paper proposes a novel approach based on utilising a credit incentive for P2P networks,wherein a grace period is introduced during which free-riders must reimburse *** contrast to previous approaches,the proposed system takes into consideration the upload rate of peers and a grace *** system has been thoroughly tested in a simulated environment,and the results show that the proposed approach effectively mitigates free-riding *** to previous systems,the number of downloads from free-riders decreased while downloads by contributing peers *** results also show that under longer grace periods,the number of downloads by fast peers(those reimbursing the system within the grace period)was greater than the number of downloads by slow peers.

Efficient energy harvesting from PV Panel with reinforced hydrophilic nano-materials for eco-buildings

The main target of this research is to allow solar PV to contribute economically to an on-grid energy-efficient building where the dust accumulation is a significant ***-cleaning coatings such as hydrophobic or hy-drophilic materials have recently been introduced to reduce dust deposition on building-integrated PV(BIPV)*** hydrophilic Nano-coated material is examined as a solution to decrease the impact of the dust on the BIPV panels and harvest more solar *** impartial comparison of the BIPV panels performance under natu-ral dust conditions,manual cleaning,and hydrophilic nanomaterial coating is *** an exhaustive and qualitative experimental analysis,the anti-reflection and anti-static properties of the utilized Nano-coated material are *** experimental results show that the hydrophilic Nano-coated material significantly improves the gathered maximum output power by 18%compared to the manually wiped *** calculated efficiencies of the Nano-coated,manual cleaning,and dusty panels are 11%,9%,and 6%,respectively,which highlights the futureproofing of the Nano-coated solar *** to the dusty panels,the ecological and economical results show that the BIPV carbon emissions are desirably dropped by 11%while using Nano-coated PV panels and the payback period is reduced to 3.9 years,which is approximately 12.8%faster.

The Role of Serum Trace elements and Oxidative Stress in Egyptian Breast Cancer Patients

Background: Oxidative stress is considered to be involved in the pathophysiology of all cancers. Studies indicated that the levels of oxidative stress markers increased in breast cancer. Trace metals are essential to normal human homeostasis. When present in an abnormal expression, they contribute in many pathological processes. Some trace metals are claimed to be carcinogenic and capable of inducing a toxic effect through the formation of free radicles and acting as cofactors in the oxidative damage of biological macromolecules and DNA. Objective: Our aim was to investigate the serum levels of some trace elements (Copper, Zinc and Cadmium), the total oxidative and anti-oxidative capacity (TOC and TAC) in patients with breast cancer in comparison to patients with benign breast tumours. Patients and Methods: The present study included 65 females. The participates were divided into 2 main groups: control group which consisted of 20 apparently healthy female;the patient groups which divided into 3 groups: group B included 15 patients with benign breast tumours, group N consisted of 15 newly diagnosed breast cancer patients and group M included 15 patients with metastatic breast cancer. Results: The mean serum levels of Copper, Zinc, and Cadmium were significantly higher in the three patients groups (B, N and M) than the control group. Similarly, serum uric acid (UA) and (TAC) levels showed significant higher level in both breast cancer groups as compared to the benign group. however TOC levels showed only significantly higher level in metastatic group. Conclusions: The present study suggested elevated TAC, UA and TOC in breast cancer patients. The increased levels of trace elements could lead to formation of free radicals or other reactive oxygen species. The serum profile of these trace metals may be helpful in predicting prognosis of breast cancer.

Growth Rate and Chemical Muscle Composition of Oreochromis niloticus Fish Cultured in Drainage Water and Fed Antioxidant Supplemented Diet

Irrigation of fish farms with agricultural drainage water may affect cultured fish species. So, the present study utilizes antioxidants supplemented diet to overcome deterioration of drainage water and its negative effect on fish. The studied groups are fish cultured in dechlorinated tap water as control group or drainage water and fed commercial basal diet. While, the other studied groups represented by Oreochromis niloticus fish cultured in drainage water and fed either commercial diet supplemented with vitamin C (5 g/kg diet) or fennel (5 g/kg diet) for 12 weeks. Results of the water physico-chemical parameters of all studied treatments revealed deterioration of the drainage water with a decrease in dissolved oxygen and an increase in ph, total hardness, total alkalinity, salinity, ammonia, nitrite and heavy metals (Cu, Pb and Cd) with significant differences (P ≤ 0.01) in comparison to that of the control dechlorinated tap water group. Data clarified also that Oreochromis niloticus cultured in drainage water showed a decrease in growth rate accompanied by deterioration of fish meat quality. however, fish reared in the same drainage water for the same exposure period and fed vitamin C or fennel supplemented basal diet (5 g/kg diet) recorded values of the studied parameters more or less similar to that of control group fish. Data of the present study, empowered aquaculturist to supplement fish rations with fennel or vitamin C as antioxidants to improve fish growth rate, meat quality as well as protect fish against heavy metals toxicity that could threat human Being.

The NLRP3 inflammasome: a potential therapeutic target for traumatic brain injury

Although the precise mechanisms contributing to secondary brain injury following traumatic brain injury are complex and obscure,a number of studies have demonstrated that inflammatory responses are an obvious and early feature in the pathogenesis of traumatic brain *** are multiprotein complexes that prompt the stimulation of caspase-1 and subsequently induce the maturation and secretion of proinflammatory cytokines,such as interleukin-1β and *** cytokines play a pivotal role in facilitating innate immune responses and *** various inflammasome complexes,the NOD-like receptor family pyrin domain-containing 3(NLRP3)inflammasome is the best characterized,a crucial role for NLRP3 has been demonstrated in various brain diseases,including traumatic brain *** recent studies have revealed the contribution of NLRP3 inflammasome in identifying cellular damage and stimulating inflammatory responses to aseptic tissue injury after traumatic brain *** more important,blocking or inhibiting the activation of the NLRP3 inflammasome may have substantial potential to salvage tissue damage during traumatic brain *** this review,we summarize recently described mechanisms that are involved in the activation and regulation of the NLRP3 ***,we review the recent investigations on the contribution of the NLRP3 inflammasome in the pathophysiology of TBI,and current advances and challenges in potential NLRP3-targeted therapies.A significant contribution of NLRP3 inflammasome activation to traumatic brain injury implies that therapeutic approaches focused on targeting specific inflammasome components could significantly improve the traumatic brain injury outcomes.

Soft coral Cespitularia stolonifera:New cytotoxic ceramides and gastroprotective activity

In the present study, a new ceramide, namely 2S, 3R-4E, 8E-2-(heptadecanoylamino)-heptadeca-4, 8-diene-1, 3-diol(1), along with four known steroids, including 24-methylcholesta-5, 24(28)-diene-3β-ol(2), 24-methylcholesta-5, 24(28)-diene-3β-acetate(3), 4-methyl-24-methylcholesta- 22-ene-3-ol(4), and cholesterol, was isolated and characterized from Ch2Cl2/Me Oh extract of Cespitularia stolonifera. A new acetate derivative of compound 1, termed 2S, 3R-4E, 8E-2-(heptadecanoylamino)-heptadeca-4, 8-diene-1, 3-diacetate(1a), was also prepared in the present study. All the structures were established on the basis of modern spectroscopic techniques, including FT-IR, 1D, 2D-NMR, hRESI-MS, and GC-MS, in addition of chemical methods.(-)-Alloaromadendren, ledane,(1)-alloaromadendren oxide, isoaromadendrene epoxide and(-)-caryophellen oxide were identified from the n-hexane fraction using GC-MS. The extract and the two ceramides(1) and(1a) exhibited significant cytotoxic activity against lung cancer A549 cells, while the extract and the two steroids(2) and(3) exhibited significant cytotoxic activity against breast cancer MCF-7 cells. The Ch_2Cl_2/MeOh extract exhibited significant antiulcer activity in both ethanol and acetic acid induced ulcer models in rats, as evidenced by histopathological, histochemical, and biochemical examinations.
