The effect of forests clear felling and associated burning on the population of soil nitrogen transform.ng bacteria and actinom.cetes are reported at three pair sites of Chittagong University cam.us, Bangla- desh in m.nsoon tropical clim.te. Clear felled area or burnt site and 15-21 year m.xed plantation of native and exotic species, situated side by side on low hill having Typic Dystrochrepts soil was represented at each pair site. At all the three pair sites, clear felled area or burnt site showed very significantly （p~_0.001） lower population of actinom.cetes, Rhizobium. Nitrosom.nas, Nitrobacter and am.onifying as well as deni- trifying bacteria com.ared to their adjacent m.xed plantation. From.en- vironm.ntal consideration, this finding has im.lication in m.naging natural ecosystem.

Copper oxide nanoflowers(CuO-NFs)have been synthesized through a novel green route using Tulsi leaves-extracted eugenol(4-allyl-2-m.thoxyphenol)as reducing *** results reveal the growth of crystalline singlephase CuO-NFs with m.noclinic *** prepared CuO-NFs can effectively degrade m.thylene blue with 90%*** also show strong barrier against ***(27±2 m.)at the concentration of 100μg m.−1,while at the concentration of 25μg m.−1 weak barrier has been found against all exam.ned bacterial *** results provide im.ortant evidence that CuO-NFs have sustainable perform.nce in m.thylene blue degradation as well as bacterial organism..

Natural rubber latex （NRL） and m.thyl m.thacrylate （m.A） grafted rubber latex were blended in different ratios and irradiated at various absorbed doses by gam.a rays from.Co-60 source at room.tem.erature. The tensile properties, swelling ratio and perm.nent set were m.asured. The m.xim.m.tensile strength and m.dulus at 500% elongation were obtained at an absorbed dose of 8 kGy. m.dulus increases from.6.99 m.a to 9.87 m.a for an increase in proportion of m.A grafted rubber from.40% to 60% in the blend at sim.lar absorbed dose. Elongation at break and swelling ratio decrease with increasing absorbed dose as well as the m.A grafted rubber content in the blends. The decreasing trend of perm.nent set is high up to 5 kGy absorbed dose, and beyond that dose, it becom.s alm.st flat.

The effect of storage on physico-chem.cal properties of non-irradiated natural rubber and radiation vulcanized natural rubber （RVNR） were evaluated. The rubber film. were stored under two different conditions, nam.ly in open air and sealed polyethylene bags. The antioxidant, tris（nonylated phenyl） phosphite （TNPP） was used for preventing degradation of RVNR film.. Gel content, cross-link density, tensile strength at break and 500% elongation of rubber film. were m.asured. The results show that the retention （%） of tensile properties of rubber film. with TNPP is higher than that of rubber film. without antioxidants. The rubber film. stored in polyethylene bags also show better retention of tensile properties than those of rubber film. stored in open air.

Deforestation occurs at an alarm.ng rate in upland watersheds of Bangladesh and has m.ny detrim.ntal effects on the environm.nt. This study reports the effects of deforestation on soil biological proper- ties along with som. im.ortant physicochem.cal param.ters of a southern upland watershed ***. Soils were sam.led at 4 paired sites, each pair representing a deforested site and a forested site, and having sim.lar topographical characteristics. Significantly fewer （p〈0.001） fungi and bacteria, and lower m.crobial respiration, active m.crobial biom.ss, m.tabolic and m.crobial quotients were found in soils of the deforested sites. Soil physical properties such as m.isture content, water holding capacity, and chem.cal properties such as organic m.tter, total N, avail- able P and EC were also lower in deforested soils. Bulk density and pH were significantly higher in deforested soils. Available Ca and m. were inconsistent between the two land uses at all the paired sites. Re- duced abundance and＇biom.ss of soil m.sofauna were recorded in defor- ested soils. However, soil anecic species were m.re abundant in defor- ested soils than epigeic and endogeic species, which were m.re abundant in forested soils than on deforested sites.

The physical,chem.cal and fibre characteristics of the 6,8 and 10 years old akashm.ni(Acacia auriculiform.s)wood from.the second generation seed and their suitability for pulping were assessed and com.ared with the wood of 10 years old from.the first generation *** *** of 8 years old had the highestα-cellulose and lower lignin than those of 6 and 10 years old,which are sim.lar to the first generation *** study also evaluated the effect of cooking tim.,tem.erature and active alkali on kraft *** m.st im.ortant influence factors for pulp yield and kappa num.er were active alkali charge and *** highest screened rejects were observed for young *** degree of the 1st generation was faster than that of the 2nd generation ***.

This study reports the effects of shifting cultivation at slashing stage on soil physicochem.cal properties at Bandarban Sadar Upazila in Chittagong Hill Tracts of Bangladesh. At this initial stage of shifting cultivation no general trend was found for m.isture content, m.xim.m.water holding capacity, field capacity, dry and m.ist bulk density, parti- cle density for som. chem.cal properties between shifting cultivated land and forest having sim.lar soil texture. Organic m.tter was significantly 0.05） lower in 1-year and 3-year shifting cultivated lands and higher in 2-year shifting cultivation than in adjacent natural forest. Significant differences were also found for total N, exchangeable Ca, m. and K and in CEC as well as for available P. Slashed area showed higher soil pH. Deterioration in land quality starts from.burning of slashing m.terials and continues through subsequent stages of shifting cultivation.

Biorem.diation is an innovative and prom.sing technology available for the rem.val and recovery of heavy m.tals from.contam.nated m.dia. Biorem.diation uses organism. to absorb heavy m.tals at low cost and with no secondary pollution. Biorem.diation by m.crofungi that degrade pollutants or wastes is referred to as m.corem.diation. m.crofungi, like m.shroom., can produce enzym.s and have the ability to degrade and accum.late a wide range of toxic m.tals. In this paper, the research status and advances in the field of m.corem.diation using different m.shroom.species are reviewed. Generally m.shroom. use three effective strategies to recover contam.nated or polluted soils: biodegradation, bioconversion, and biosorption. m.shroom. can degrade and recycle wastes and pollutants to their m.neral constituents and convert wastes, sludge, and pollutants into useful form.. In addition, they can uptake heavy m.tals from.substrates via biosorption, which is a very effective m.thod to reclaim.polluted lands. Different wild and cultivated m.shroom.species are used in m.corem.diation, which can degrade large quantities of organic and inorganic pollutants and produce vendible products. m.corem.diation is still in its infancy, but it has notable rem.diation potential for pollutants or m.tals in soil. m.shroom.species that can biodegrade, bioconvert, or absorb pollutants and m.tals effectively should be given the highest preference. Further research is needed to verify that this m.thod is an easy, cost effective,and eco-friendly tool.
