Heart failure is common in older people and its prevalence is *** Heart ＇omics＇ in AGEing（HOMAGE） project aims to provide a biomarker approach that will improve the early diagnosis of heart failure.A large clinical database,based on（1） prospective population studies or（2） cross-sectional,prospective studies or randomized controlled trials（RCTs） of patients at risk for or with overt cardiovascular disease will be constructed to determine most promising ＇omics＇-based biomarkers to identify the risk of developing heart failure and/or *** studies,patient cohorts and RCTs are eligible for inclusion in the common database,if they received ethical approval to obtain and share data and have baseline information on cardiovascular risk ***,the HOMAGE database includes 43,065 subjects,from 20 studies in eight European countries,including healthy subjects from three population studies in France,Belgium and Italy（n = 7,124）,patients with heart failure（n = 4,312） from four cohorts in the UK,Spain and Switzerland and patients at high risk for cardiovascular disease（n = 31,629） in 13 *** is anticipated that more partners will join the consortium and enlarge the pooled *** large merged database will be a useful resource with which to identify candidate biomarkers that play a role in the mechanism underlying the onset and progression of heart failure.

Plant-substrate biochar properties critical for mediating reductive debromination of 1,2-dibromoethane

Dibromoethane is a widespread,persistent organic *** are known mediators of reductive dehalogenation by layered Fe^(Ⅱ)-Fe^(Ⅲ)hydroxides(green rust),which can reduce 1,2-dibromoethane to innocuous bromide and ***,the critical characteristics that determine mediator functionality are lesser *** biochar substrates were pyrolyzed at 600℃and 800℃,characterized by elemental analysis,X-ray photo spectrometry C and N surface speciation,X-ray powder diffraction,specific surface area analysis,and tested for mediation of reductive debromination of 1,2-dibromoethane by a green rust reductant under anoxic conditions.A statistical analysis was performed to determine the biochar properties,critical for debromination kinetics and total debromination *** was shown that selected plant based biochars can mediate debromination of 1,2-dibromoethane,that the highest first order rate constant was 0.082/hr,and the highest debromination extent was 27%in reactivity experiments with 0.1μmol(20μmol/L)1,2-dibromoethane,≈22 mmol/L Fe^(Ⅱ)GR,and 0.12 g/L soybean meal biochar(7 days).Contents of Ni,Zn,N,and P,and the relative contribution of quinone surface functional groups were significantly(plated with 1,2-dibromoethane debromination,while adsorption,specific surface area,and the relative contribution of pyridinic N oxide surface groups were significantly negatively correlated with debromination.

Treatment of heart failure in nursing home residents

BackgroundFor the treatment of chronic heart failure （HF）, both pharmacological and non-pharmacological treatment should be em-ployed in HF patients. Although HF is highly prevalent in nursing home residents, it is not clear whether the recommendations in the guide-lines for pharmacological therapy also are followed in nursing home residents. The aim of this study is to investigate how HF is treated in nursing home residents and to determine to what extent the current treatment corresponds to the *** home resi-dents of five large nursing home care organizations in the southern part of the Netherlands with a previous diagnosis of HF based on medical records irrespective of the left ventricle ejection fraction （LVEF） were included in this cross-sectional design study. Data were gathered on the （medical） records, which included clinical characteristics and pharmacological- and non-pharmacological treatment. Echocardiography was used as part of the study to determine the *** of 501 residents, 112 had a diagnosis of HF at inclusion. One-third of them received an ACE-inhibitor and 40% used aβ-blocker. In 66%, there was a prescription of diuretics with a preference of a loop diuretic. Focusing on the residents with a LVEF￡ 40%, only 46% of the 22 residents used an ACE-inhibitor and 64% aβ-blocker. The median daily doses of prescribed medication were lower than those that were recommended by the guidelines. Non-pharmacological interventions were recorded in almost none of the residents with *** recommended medical therapy of HF was often not prescribed; if pre-scribed, the dosage was usually far below what was recommended. In addition, non-pharmacological interventions were mostly not used at all.

Functionality of adult peripheral nerves essentially relies on differentiation of Schwann cells during post- natal development, as well as fine-tuned re- and transdifferentiation in response to peripheral nerve injury. Epigenetic histone modifications play a major role during the differentiation of embryonic stem cells and diverse organ specific progenitor cells, yet only little is known about the epigenetic regulation of Schwa nn cells. Just recently, Fuhrmann et al. reported how the transcription factor Myc-interacting zinc-finger protein 1 （Mizl） might contribute to Schwann cell differentiation through repression of the histone de- methylase Kdm8. Here, we discuss the potential novel role of Mizl in Schwann cell differentiation and give a short overview about previously reported histone modifications underlying peripheral nerve develop- ment and response to injury.

Drought can favour the growth of small in relation to tall trees in mature stands of Norway spruce and European beech

Background: Climate change triggered many studies showing that trends and events of environmental conditions can reduce but also accelerate growth at the stand and individual tree level. However, it is still rather unknown how climate change modifies the growth partitioning between the trees in forest ***: Based on long-term girth-tape measurements in mature monospecific and mixed-species stands of Norway spruce(Picea abies(L.) Karst.) and European beech(Fagus sylvatica L.) we traced the effect of the severe droughts in 2003 and 2015 from the stand down to the tree ***: Stand growth of Norway spruce decreased by about 30% in the once-in-a-century drought 2015, while European beech was much more drought resistant. Water availability generally amplified size-asymmetric growth partitioning. Especially in case of Norway spruce water availability primarily fostered the growth of predominant trees, whereas drought favoured the growth of small trees at the expense of the predominant ones. We could not detect significant differences between mixed and monospecific stands in this ***: The drought-induced reallocation of growth in favour of small trees in case of spruce may result from its isohydric character. We hypothesize that as small trees are shaded, they can benefit from the reduced water consumption of their sun-exposed taller neighbours. In case of beech, as an anisohydric species, tall trees suffer less and smaller trees benefit less under drought. The discussion elaborates the consequences of the water dependent growth allocation for forest monitoring, growth modelling, and silviculture.

Cathodoluminescence Microscopy of Zircon in HP-and UHPMetamorphic Rocks: A Fundamental Technique for Assessing the Problem of Inclusions versus Pseudo-Inclusions

This paper shows how a faulty approach to the study of mineral inclusions in zircon can lead to misleading interpretations of the geological *** present and discuss two well-documented *** grains separated from HP metamorphic jadeitite of the Rio San Juan Complex,Dominican Republic,and from UHP pyrope quartzite of the Dora Maira Massif,northern Italy,were studied using cathodoluminescence(CL)techniques,in combination with mineral inclusion and age *** general,zircon from both localities shows inherited magmatic core domains with oscillatory zoning and metamorphic *** magmatic cores of zircon from the jadeitite yield ages of 115–117 Ma and host jadeite and omphacite which are of metamorphic origin and formed at about 78 *** from lawsonite blueschist,representing the country rock of the jadeitite,contains domains with oscillatory zoning that are nearly identical in age to the zircon cores from the adjacent jadeitite,and also contains younger metamorphic minerals such as lawsonite,albite,phengite(Si3.68),chlorite,and *** observations were made on the magmatic cores of zircon from the pyrope *** are about 275 Ma in age and host pyrope,phengite(Si3.55),talc,and kyanite,all of which formed during UHP metamorphism at about 35 *** from the biotite-phengite-gneiss country rock(metagranite)shows oscillatory zoning and yields ages that are identical to those of the magmatic cores of zircon from pyrope quartzite,which thus reflect granitic intrusion *** country-rock zircon also encloses metamorphic minerals with ages of about 35 *** minerals are,for example,garnet and phengite,as well as a polymineralic assemblage of clinopyroxene+garnet+phengite+quartz,that point to formation at UHP metamorphic conditions around 40 kbar/750℃.Based on these examples we suggest an effective approach centered on key evidence from CL studies to show that magmatic domains of zircon may actually contain pseudo-inclusions whic

The United Nations’2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development sets seventeen Sustainable Development Goals(SDGs)to be achieved by *** observation are needed that can support the development and validation of transformation policies to make progress towards the SDGs.A participatory and inclusive goal-based approach(GBA)is introduced that links societal goals,targets and indicators to Essential Transformation Variables(ETVs)of the human and non-human *** GBA is complementary to the widely used expertbased *** GBA is applied to the SDGs at the goal,target and indicator *** high-level conceptual model used for the SDGs is humanity embedded in the Earth’s life-support system(ELSS).At the goal level,very few of the SDGs are directly focusing on the ELSS and its *** of the SDG Targets focus on transformations in society and the built *** targets that explicitly focus on the physiology of the ELSS would be important for *** of the current indicator measure the built environment and the embedded social *** development requires a functioning ELSS,and to ensure this,complementary indicators that bring environmental aspects to the monitoring of SDG targets are needed.
