AIm:Smoking may affect adversely the response rate to interferon-α.Our objective was to verify this issue among chronic hepatitis C patients. mETHODS:Over the year 1998,138 chronic hepatitis C male Egyptian patients presenting to Cairo Liver Center, were divided on the basis of smoking habit into:group I which comprised 38 smoker patients(>30 cigarettes/d) and group Ⅱ which included 84 non-smoker patients. Irregular and mild smokers(16 patients)were excluded. Non eligible patients for interferon-α therapy were excluded from the study and comprised 3/38(normal ALT)in group I and 22/84 in group Ⅱ(normal ALT,advanced cirrhosis and thrombocytopenia).Group I was randomly allocated into 2 sub-groups:group Ia comprised 18 patients who were subjected to therapeutic phlebotomy while sub-group Ib consisted of 17 patients who had no *** sub-group la,3 patients with normal ALT after repeated phlebotomies were excluded from the ***-α 2b 3 mU/TIW was given for 6 mo to 15 patients in group Ia,17 patients in group Ib and 62 patients in group Ⅱ. Biochemical,virological end-of-treatment and sustained responses were evaluated. RESULTS:At the end of interferon-α treatment,ALT was normalized in 3/15 patients(20%)in group Ia and 2/17 patients(11.8%)in group Ib compared to17/62 patients (27.4%)in group Ⅱ(P=0.1).Whereas 2/15 patients(13.3%) in group *** 2/17 patients(11.8%)in group Ib lost viraemia compared to 13/62 patients(26%)in group Ⅱ (P=0.3).Six months later,ALT was persistently normal in 2/15 patients(13.3%)in group 1a and 1/17 patients (5.9%)in group Ib compared to 9/62 patients(14.5%)in group Ⅱ(P=0.47).Viraemia was eliminated in 1/15 patients (6.7%)in group Ia and 1/17 patients(5.9%)in group Ib compared to 7/62 patients(11.3%) in group Ⅱ,but the results did not mount to statistical significance(P=0.4). AIm： To identify the trend, possible risk factors and any pattern change of hepatocellular carcinoma （HCC） in Egypt over a decade. mETHODS： All HCC patients attending Cairo Liver Center between January 1993 and December 2002, were enrolled in the study. Diagnosis of HCC was based on histopathological examination and/or detection of hepatic focal lesions by two imaging techniques plus α-fetoprotein level above 200 ng/mL. The duration of the study was divided into two periods of 5 years each; period Ⅰ （1993-1997） and period Ⅱ （1998-2002）. Trend, demographic features of patients （age, gender, and residence）, risk factors （HBsAg, HCV-Ab, schistosomiasis and others） and pattern of the focal lesions were compared between the two periods. Logistic regression model was fitted to calculate the adjusted odds ratios for the potential risk factors. The population attributable risk percentage was calculated to estimate the proportion of HCC attributed to hepatitis B and C viral infections. RESULTS： Over a decade, 1 328 HCC patients out of 22 450 chronic liver disease （CLD） patients were diagnosed with an overall proportion of 5.9%. The annual proportion of HCC showed a significant rising trend from 4.0% in 1993 to 7.2% in 2002 （P = 0.000）. A significant increase in male proportion from 82.5% to 87.6% （P = 0.009）; m/F from 5：1 to 7：1 and a slight increase of the predominant age group （40-59 years） from 62.6% to 66.8% （P = 0.387）in periods Ⅰ and Ⅱ respectively, reflecting a shift to younger age group. In the bivariate analysis, HCC was significantly higher in rural residents, patients with history of schistosomiasis and/or blood transfusion. Yet, after adjustment, these variables did not have a significant risk for development of HCC. There was a significant decline of HBsAg from 38.6% to 20.5% （P = 0.000）, and a slight increase of HCV-Ab from 85.6% to 87.9% in periods I and II respectively. Healthcare systems nowadays depend on IoT sensors for sending data over the internet as a common *** ofmedical images is very important to secure patient *** these images consumes a lot of time onedge computing;therefore,theuse of anauto-encoder for compressionbefore encodingwill solve such a *** this paper,we use an auto-encoder to compress amedical image before encryption,and an encryption output(vector)is sent out over the *** the other hand,a decoder was used to reproduce the original image back after the vector was received and *** convolutional neural networks were conducted to evaluate our proposed approach:The first one is the auto-encoder,which is utilized to compress and encrypt the images,and the other assesses the classification accuracy of the image after decryption and *** hyperparameters of the encoder were tested,followed by the classification of the image to verify that no critical information was lost,to test the encryption and encoding *** this approach,sixteen hyperparameter permutations are utilized,but this research discusses three main cases in *** first case shows that the combination of mean Square Logarithmic Error(mSLE),ADAgrad,two layers for the auto-encoder,and ReLU had the best auto-encoder results with a mean Absolute Error(mAE)=0.221 after 50 epochs and 75%classification with the best result for the classification *** second case shows the reflection of auto-encoder results on the classification results which is a combination ofmean Square Error(mSE),RmSprop,three layers for the auto-encoder,and ReLU,which had the best classification accuracy of 65%,the auto-encoder gives mAE=0.31 after 50 *** third case is the worst,which is the combination of the hinge,RmSprop,three layers for the auto-encoder,and ReLU,providing accuracy of 20%and mAE=0.485.

Objective:To evaluate the predatory potential of the Odonata nymph on freshwater snails that serve as intermediate hosts for Schistosoma species(Bulinus truncatus and Biomphalaria alexandrina).methods:Observations on the searching,attacking and devouring of the two snail types with series of laboratory-based predation experiments,whose aims were to determine daily predation rate,differential predation,prey preference considering small-,mediumand large-sized snails were ***:Laboratory evaluation revealed that,the Odonata nymph could kill and consume the two intermediate *** number of snails consumed differed according to the snail type,size and *** times taken for searching and handling times were dependent on the snail size,type and satiation of the *** predation rate varied also with respect to snail type,size and *** study also evaluated that Odonata nymphs consumed more Bulinus truncatus than Biomphalaria alexandrina per unit time,and that there may be a preference for smaller than larger ***:According to our observation,the predator,Hemianax ephippiger nymph may be a suitable biocontrol agent in connection with Schistosoma intermediate hosts.

Kinetic spectrophotometric method for determination of amlodipine besylate in its pharmaceutical tablets

A simple and sensitive kinetic spectrophotometric method has been developed and validated for determination of amlodipine besylate （AmL）. The method was based on the condensation reaction of AmL with 7-chloro-4-nitro-2,1,3-benzoxadiazole in an alkaline buffer （pH 8.6） producing a highly colored product. The color development was monitored spectrophometrically at the maximum absorption λmax 470 nm. The factors affecting the reaction were studied and the conditions were optimized. The stoichiometry of the reaction was determined, and the reaction pathway was postulated. moreover, both the activation energy and the specific rate constant （at 70 ℃） of the reaction were found to be 6.74 kcal mole-1 and 3.58 s -1, respectively. The initial rate and fixed time methods were utilized for constructing the calibration graphs lbr the determination of AmL concentration. Under the optimum reaction conditions, the limits of detection and quantification were 0.35 and 1.05 ug/mL, respectively. The precision of the method was satisfactory; the relative standard deviations were 0.85-1.76%. The proposed method was successfully applied to the analysis of AmL in its pure form and tablets with good accuracy; the recovery percentages ranged from 99.55 ± 1.69% to 100.65 ±1.48%. The results were compared with that of the reported method.

AIm: To explore the approaches exerted by mesenchymal stem cells (mSCs) to improve Parkinson’s disease (PD) ***: mSCs were harvested from bone marrow of femoral bones of male rats, grown and propagated in culture. Twenty four ovariectomized animals were classified into 3 groups: Group (1) was control, Groups (2) and (3) were subcutaneously administered with rotenone for 14 d after one month of ovariectomy for induction of PD. Then, Group (2) was left untreated, while Group (3) was treated with single intravenous dose of bone marrow derived mSCs (Bm-mSCs). SRY gene was assessed by PCR in brain tissue of the female rats. Serum transforming growth factor beta-1 (TGF-β1), monocyte chemoattractant protein-1 (mCP-1) and brain derived neurotrophic factor (BDNF) levels were assayed by ELISA. Brain dopamine DA level was assayed fluorometrically, while brain tyrosine hydroxylase (TH) and nestin gene expression were detected by semi-quantitative real time PCR. Brain survivin expression was determined by immunohistochemical procedure. Graphene based nanosheets have been widely used as building blocks for fabrication of superior separation membrane for water *** particular,membranes made of reduced graphene oxide(rGO)show better stability compared with graphene oxide(GO).However,densely stacked of rGO often results in low water *** this study,cellulose nanofibers(CNFs)were incorporated into the rGO laminates by vacuum filtration of dilute GO/CNF solution and thermal reduction at 150C for 1.5 *** resulting rGO/CNF membrane was treated with oxygen plasma for 1–4 min to create nanopores on the membrane surface for the purpose of enhancing nano-filtration *** results showed that the optimum membrane performance was obtained by using the equal amount of GO(31.83 mg m^(-2))and CNFs accompanied by 3 min of plasma treatment,exhibiting a pure water permeance of 37.23.9 L m^(-2)h^(-1)bar^(-1)maintaining a rejection above 90%for Acid Fuchsin(1.2×1.1 nm),Rose Bengal(1.5×1.2 nm)and Brilliant Blue(2.2×1.7 nm).
