It is well known that peripheral nerve injury should be treated immediately in the clinic, but in some instances, repair can be delayed. This study investigated the effects of immediate versus delayed （3 days after injury） neurorrhaphy on repair of transected sciatic nerve in New Zealand rabbits using stereological, histomorphological and biomechanical methods. At 8 weeks after immediate and delayed neurorrhaphy, axon number and area in the sciatic nerve, myelin sheath and epineurium thickness, schwann cell morphology, and the mechanical property of nerve fibers did not differ obviously. These results indicate that delayed neurorrhaphy do not produce any deleterious effect on sciatic nerve repair.

Intractable tinnitus can lead to serious consequences. study evidence indicates that the central nervous system is involved in generation and maintenance of chronic tinnitus and that tinnitus and other neurologic symptoms such as chronic pain may share similar mechanisms. Brain ablation and stimulation are used to treat chronic pain with success. Recent studies showed that ablation and stimulation in non-auditory areas resulted in tinnitus improvement. Deep brain stimulation (DBs) may be an alternative treatment for intractable tinnitus and deserves further study.

surface functionalization of blast furnace slag with sulfamic acid(a zwitterion)was performed for the removal of Cr^(3+)and methylene blue dye(MB)from water *** slag functionalization process was optimized using Response surface Methodology *** analysis of the parameters that include the sulfamic acid amount(A),reaction time(B),and temperature(C)revealed that(A)increase had a negative effect on the adsorption of both pollutants by the zwitterion slag,whereas(B)and(C)increase presented a positive *** the optimum condition of 2 g sulfamic acid amount,50 min reaction time and 37℃ temperature,the prepared slag showed a removal efficiency of more than 90% for both Cr^(3+)and *** characterization by sEM/EDs,FTIR,XPs and surface area analyser,showed an improvement in surface properties and the incorporation of zwitterionic NH^(2+)and s=O groups of sulfamic *** isotherm and kinetic studies conducted with the zwitterion slag showed the adsorption process was suited to Freundlich isotherm model and pseudo-second-order kinetic *** thermodynamic study conducted revealed the spontaneity of the process based on the calculated negativeΔG(Gibb’s free energy)*** prepared zwitterion slag offered easy regeneration with dilute HCl solution and showed a considerable removal(Cr^(3+):65% and MB:80%)for both pollutants even after 3 cycles of usage.

Hearing loss and tinnitus are among the most common consequences of long term noise exposure and re-main an under-addressed heath issue in most developing nations including China. The rapid industrializa-tion and life style changes in China increase the concern over noise exposure and noise induced hearing loss (NIHL). Research on NIHL in China is limited. The current paper reviews studies published in English and Chinese language literatures regarding noise exposure and NIHL in China. Their implication on the Chi-nese population is discussed. The possible utility of a research model such as the Dangerous Decibels? as a means to increase understanding of the scope of NIHL among the Chinese population, to educate the gener-al public in China (especially the young) about NIHL and its prevention, and to study effects of language and cultural factors on international information dissemination and behavioral interventions is proposed.

Metabolic engineering requires fine-tuned gene expression for most pathway optimization *** develop a suitable suite of promoters,traditional bacterial promoter engineering efforts have focused on modifications to the core region,especially the−10 and−35 regions,of native ***,we demonstrate an alternate,unexplored route of promoter engineering through randomization of the UP element of the promoter—a region that contacts the alpha subunit carboxy-terminal domain instead of the sigma subunit of the RNA polymerase *** this work,we identify five novel UP element sequences through library-based searches in Escherichia *** resulting elements were used to activate the *** core promoter,rrnD promoter,to levels on par and higher than the prevalent strong bacterial promoter,*** relative levels of expression activation were transferrable when applied upstream of alternate core promoter sequences,including rrnA and *** work thus presents and validates a novel strategy for bacterial promoter engineering with transferability across varying core promoters and potential for transferability across bacterial species.
