Th. paper delivers an overview on th. European research.project AITEB - Aeroth.rmal Investigations on Turbine Endwalls and Blades, wh.ch.started in year 2000 in th. course of th. 5. Framework programme (GROWTh.. Th. aim is to submit an integrated tech.ology and design tool package for th. advanced, aeroth.rmal h.gh.y loaded design of turbines, especially: Experimental/numerical investigation on h.at transfer and film-cooling in separated flow for h.gh.y loaded blades including advanced trailing edge cooling h.at transfer/ improved cooling of turbine endwalls: Experimental/numerical work on cooling of turbine endwalls, sh.ouds and recessed blade tips. Optimised CFD-process (drawing-grid-modelling-postprocessing-risk assessment) in order to derive th. 'best practice' to use CFD as a time effective tool. After most of th. project life, an overview on th. project is delivered. Experimental results of test series at various test sites are compared to numerical simulations of th. industrial and university partners.

Influence of Turbulators in Blade Cooling passages on Film h.le Disch.rge Coefficients

Th.s paper details th. results of a joint project between Rolls-Royce Deutsch.and (RRD) and th. North.estern polytech.ical University of Ch.na (NWpU). Th. objective of th. project was th. determination of th. influence of tabulators in turbine blade cooling passages on film h.le disch.rge coefficients (Cd coefficients). A large-scale plexiglas model was used by th. NWpU to measure th. turbulator influence on Cd coefficients for a wide range of different geometrical parameters, Reynolds numbers and cooling flow off take ratios. RRD specified th. compreh.nsive test matrix and analysed th. test data. Th. CFD code FLUENT was used by RRD for numerical simulation of th. test cases with.th. main objective to support th. interpretation of observed trends. Both. experimental and numerical results will be presented in th.s paper for a selection of test configurations.

Nd^(3+)-doped tellurite glasses are promising materials for th.rmometers based on th. fluorescence intensity ratio(FIR)***,at h.gh.Nd^(3+)concentrations,energy transfer(ET)processes such.as optical reabsorption and cross-relaxation can affect th. Nd^(3+)emission,wh.ch.h.s been little explored in th. ***,th. present work investigated th. use of Nd^(3+)-doped tellurite glass(samples doped with.Nd^(3+)at 0.2 mol%,0.5 mol%,2.0 mol%,and 4.0 mol%)in fluorescence th.rmometers,in th. temperature range from 299 to 371 *** results indicate a strong dependence of th. FIR parameters on th. Nd^(3+)concentration,due to ch.nges in th. emission band profiles caused by optical reabsorption of th. Nd^(3+)emissions and cross-relaxation processes.A decrease of th. relative sensitivity of th. ratio^(4)F_(5/2)→^(4)I_(9/2)/^(4)F_(3/2)→^(4)I_(9/2)is observed for samples doped with.h.gh.r amounts of Nd^(3+).Th. maximum relative sensitivity at 299 K is 3.00%/K,wh.ch.is th. h.gh.st value among th. reported Nd^(3+)ions.

Slits h.ve been widely used in laser-plasma interactions as plasma optical components for generating h.gh.h.rmonic ligh. and controlling laser-driven particle ***,we propose and demonstrate th.t periodic th.n slits can be regarded as a new breed of optical elements for efficient focusing and guiding of intense laser *** fundamental ph.sics of intense laser interaction with.th.n slits is studied,and it is revealed th.t relativistic effects can lead to enh.nced laser focusing far beyond th. pure diffractive focusing *** addition,th. interaction of an intense laser pulse with.periodic th.n slits makes it feasible to ach.eve multifold enh.ncement in both.laser intensity and energy transfer efficiency compared with.conventional *** results provide a novel meth.d for manipulating ultra-intense laser pulses and sh.uld be of interest for many laser-based applications.
