AIM:To evaluate single balloon enteroscopy in diagnostic and therapeutic endoscopic retrograde cholangiography(ERC)in patients with Roux-en-Y hepaticojejunoanastomosis(hJA).METhODS:The study took place from January 2009to December 2011 and we retrospectively assessed 15patients with Roux-en-Y hJA who had signs of biliary *** total,23 ERC procedures were performed in these patients and a single balloon videoen-teroscope(Olympus SIF Q 180)was used in all of the cases.A transparent overtube was drawn over the videoenteroscope and it freely moved on the working part of the *** distal end was equipped with a silicone balloon that was inflated by air from an external pump at a pressure of≤5.4 *** technical limitations or rather the parameters of the single balloon enteroscope(working length-200 cm,diameter of the working channel-2.8 mm,absence of Albarran bridge)showed the need for special endoscopic ***:Cannulation success was reached in diagnostic ERC in 12 of 15 *** findings were normal in 1 of 12 *** in the remaining 11 patients showed some pathological *** of these(cystic bile duct dilation)was subsequently resolved *** treatment was initialized in the remaining 10 patients(5 with hJA stenosis,2 with choledocholithiasis,and 3 with both).This treatment was successful in 9 of 10 *** endoscopic therapeutic procedures included:balloon dilatation of hJA stenosis-11 times(7 patients);choledocholitiasis extraction-five times(5 patients);biliary plastic stent placement-six times(4 patients);and removal of biliary stents placed by us-six times(4 patients).The mean time of performing a single ERC was 72 *** longest procedure took 110 min and the shortest took34 *** shows that it is necessary to allow for more time in individual ***,these procedures require the presence of an *** did not observe any complications in these 15 ***

Molecular layer of tungstosilicic acid (h4SiW12O40) deposited on freshly-cleaved highly oriented pyrolytic graphite (hOPG) was observed by scanning tunneling microscopy (STM) in air at room temperature. The molecular dimension (11.5 Angstrom) of h4SiW12O40 measured by STM is consistent with known crystallographic parameter. We also imaged the boundary of h4SiW12O40 molecular layer on hOPG showing that molecular layer of h4SiW12O40 was formed. It has been proved that individual tungstosilicic acid species is imaged. The probable reason for the formation of the molecular layer is also discussed.

In his recent interview for the Guardian Craig Venter is elaborating about a household appliance for the future, Digital Biological Converter(DBC). Current prototype, which can produce DNA, is a box attached to the computer which receives DNA sequences over the internet to synthesize DNA; later in future also viruses, proteins, and living cells. This would help the household members to produce, e.g., insulin, virus vaccines or phages that fight antibiotic resistant bacteria. In more distant future, Craig Venter's hope is that the DBC will generate living cells via so-called "Universal Recipient Cell". This platform will allow digitally transformed genomes, downloaded from the internet, to form new cells fitted for the particular needs such as therapeutics, food, fuel or cleaning water. In contrast to this, the authors propose that DNA sequences of genomes do not represent 1:1 depictions of unequivocal coding structures such as genes. In light of the variety of epigenetic markings, DNA can store a multitude of further meanings hidden under the superficial grammar of nucleic acid sequences.

Electrochemical behavior of the transfer of h+ across polypyrrole membrane (PPM) was studied. The transfer process was quasi-reversible and mainly diffusion-controlled. PPM electropolymerized in water solution has better reversibility than that in Ch3CN solution for the transfer of h+. The transfer process of h+ across the two kinds of PPM indicated that the PPM electrochemically polymerized was of asymmetry.

The curing process of two biobased adhesives:pine tanninhexamine(Th)and organosolv lignin non-isocyanate polyurethane(NIPU),suitable for interior nonstructural use,were compared with commercial urea-formaldehyde(UF)*** in chemical structure before and after the curing process were observed with Fouriertransform infrared spectroscopy(FTIR).The process of adhesive curing was monitored with differential scanning calorimetry(DSC)and the automated bonding evaluation system(ABES).Both DSC and ABES measurements confirmed UF as the fastest and NIPU as the slowest curing adhesive *** into account the ABES results,the optimal pressing parameters for the Th adhesive would be 4 min at 175℃,for the NIPU adhesive 7 min at 200℃and for the UF 1.5 min at 100℃.Strong linear correlation was observed between mechanical and chemical curing for the UF and NIPU adhesives,whereas lower correlation was observed for the Th *** all observed adhesives,the DSC measurements were underestimating the curing process determined by ABES in the first part and overestimating it at the *** underestimation was the most evident with the Th adhesive and the less with the UF *** comparing the uncured and cured FTIR spectra of all three types of adhesives,a drastic decrease in the characteristic band of-Oh groups at 3330–3400 cm^(−1)and an increase in the signal intensity at 2920 cm^(−1)of aliphatic-Ch2-groups were *** the UF adhesive,the C=O stretching frequency has shifted from 1632 cm^(−1)for uncured to three different bands at 1766,1701,and 1655 cm^(−1)for cured *** sharp band for phenolic alcohols at 1236 cm^(−1)of C–O stretch and hydroxyl O–h functional group at 1009 cm^(−1)and at 684 cm^(−1)of uncured Th adhesive diminished during curing,which indicates that a crosslinking reaction occurs via-Oh *** peak of the C=O group of urethane bridges at 1697 cm^(−1)for uncured NIPU shifted to lower wavenumber at 1633 cm^(−1)for cured NIPU.
