Effect of Meteorological Data Assimilation on Regional Air Quality Forecasts over the Korean Peninsula

The Weather Research and Forecasting model coupled with Chemistry(WRF-Chem),a type of online coupled chemistry-meteorology model(CCMM),considers the interaction between air quality and meteorology to improve air quality *** data assimilation(DA)can be used to reduce uncertainty in meteorological field,which is one factor causing prediction uncertainty in the *** this study,WRF-Chem and three-dimensional variational DA were used to examine the impact of meteorological DA on air quality and meteorological forecasts over the Korean *** nesting model domains were configured over East Asia(outer domain)and the Korean Peninsula(inner domain).Three experiments were conducted by using different DA domains to determine the optimal model domain for the meteorological *** the meteorological DA was performed in the outer domain or both the outer and inner domains,the root-mean-square error(RMSE),bias of the predicted particulate matter(PM)concentrations,and the RMSE of predicted meteorological variables against the observations were smaller than those in the experiment where the meteorological DA was performed only in the inner *** indicates that the improvement of the synoptic meteorological fields by DA in the outer domain enhanced the meteorological initial and boundary conditions for the inner domain,subsequently improving air quality and meteorological *** to the experiment without meteorological DA,the RMSE and bias of the meteorological and PM variables were smaller in the experiments with *** effect of meteorological DA on the improvement of PM predictions lasted for approximately 58-66 h,depending on the ***,the uncertainty reduction in the meteorological initial condition by the meteorological DA contributed to a reduction of the forecast errors of both meteorology and air quality.

A Cu-Pd alloy catalyst with partial phase separation for the electrochemical CO_(2) reduction reaction

Cu catalysts can convert CO_(2) through an electrochemical reduction reaction into a variety of useful carbon-based ***,this capability provides an obstacle to increasing the selectivity for a single ***,we report a simple fabrication method for a Cu-Pd alloy catalyst for use in a membrane electrode assembly(MEA)-based CO_(2) electrolyzer for the electrochemical CO_(2) reduction reaction(ECRR)with high selectivity for CO *** the composition of the Cu-Pd alloy catalyst was fabricated at 6:4,the selectivity for CO increased and the production of multi-carbon compounds and hydrogen is *** a Cu-Pd alloy catalyst with 6:4 ratio as the cathode of the MEAbased CO_(2) electrolyzer showed a CO faradaic efficiency of 92.8%at 2.4 V_(cell).We assumed that these results contributed from the crystal planes on the surface of the Cu-Pd *** phases of the Cu-Pd alloy catalyst were partially separated through annealing to fabricate a catalyst with high selectivity for CO at low voltage and C_(2)H_4 at high *** results of CO-stripping testing confirmed that when Cu partially separates from the lattice of the Cu-Pd alloy,the desorption of~*CO is suppressed,suggesting that C-C coupling reaction is favored.

Specific Radius Change of Quantum Dot inside the Lipid Bilayer by Charge Effect of Lipid Head-Group

We studied the quantum dot-liposome complex (QLC), which is the giant unilamellar vesicle with quantum dots (QDs) incorporated in its lipid bilayer. A spin coating method in conjunction with the electroformation technique yielded vesicles with highly homogeneous unilamellar structure. We observed QD size dependence of the QLC formation: QLCs form with blue, green and yellow-emission QD (core radius ~1.05 nm, 1.25 nm and 1.65 nm) but not with red-emission QD (core radius ~2.5 nm). In order to explain this size dependence, we made a simple model explaining the QD size effect on QLC formation in terms of the molecular packing parameter and the lipid conformational change. This model predicts that QDs below a certain critical size (radius ≈ 1.8 nm) can stably reside in a lipid bilayer of 4 - 5 nm in thickness for Egg-PC lipids. This is consistent with our previous experimental results. In the case of red-emission QD, QD-aggregations are only observed on the fluorescent microscopy instead of QLC. We expected that the reduction of packing parameter (P) would lead to the change of specific QD radius. This prediction could be verified by our experimental observation of the shift of the specific QD size by mixing DOPG.

Organic light-emitting diodes(OLEDs)have demonstrated remarkable advancements in both device lifetime and luminous ***,insufficient operation lifetime due to device degradation remains a major hurdle,especially for brighter *** the degradation mechanisms of OLEDs due to the degradation of functional materials and the formation of defects in device architectures continues to be a significant ***,we evaluate the degradation characteristics by scrutinizing the electrical and optical properties,as well as analyzing the charge carrier dynamics in pristine and aged states of phosphorescent OLEDs(PhOLEDs).We show that degradation mechanisms in PhOLEDs can be elucidated in terms of the ideality factors of current and luminance in pristine and aged device *** consistent shifts in distinct ideality factors across various states points out that the device degradation is attributed to the deterioration of the guest material,***-light-emitting phosphorescent ***,the incongruity in ideality factor changes between the two states indicates that the degradation results from the deterioration of non-light-emitting *** characterization experiments provide further evidence that this degradation is primarily attributed to the deterioration of CBP-host *** thorough understanding of degradation mechanisms established in this study can contribute to realizing the highly reliable PhOLEDs with a long lifetime.

Clinical significance of distally located periurethral calcification in patients with lower urinary tract symptoms of benign prostate hyperplasia

This study evaluated the association of periurethral calcification(PUC)with uroflowmetric parameters and symptom severity in male patients with lower urinary tract symptoms(LUTS)of benign prostatic hyperplasia(BPH).The data were collected from a prospectively maintained database of 1321 men with LUTS of BPH who visited Chonnam National University Hospital(Gwang-ju,Korea)from January 2015 to December *** severity and location were evaluated on the midsagittal plane during transrectal *** among age,prostate-related parameters,International Prostate Symptom Score(IPSS),and uroflowmetric parameters were *** the 1321 patients in this study,530(40.1%)had *** with PUC had significantly higher IPSS(mean±standard deviation[s.d.]:15.1±8.7 vs 13.1±7.9;P<0.001)and lower peak flow rate(Qmax;mean±s.d.:12.4±6.6 ml s^(-1) vs 14.7±13.3 ml s^(-1);P<0.001),compared with patients who did not have *** according to PUC severity revealed that patients with severe PUC had higher prostate-specific antigen(PSA)level(P=0.009),higher total IPSS(P<0.001),lower Qmax(P=0.002),and smaller prostate volume(P<0.001),compared with patients who had non-severe(mild or moderate)*** analysis showed that distal PUC was independently associated with high total IPSS(P=0.02),voiding symptom score(P=0.04),and storage symptom score(P=0.023),and low Qmax(P=0.015).In conclusion,PUC was significantly associated with worse LUTS parameters in terms of IPSS and ***,distally located PUC was independently associated with worse LUTS of BPH in men.

Manifolding active sites and in situ/operando electrochemical-Raman spectroscopic studies of single-metal nanoparticle-decorated CuO nanorods in furfural biomass valorization to H_(2) and 2-furoic acid

Here,CuO nanorods fabricated via pulsed laser ablation in liquids were decorated with Ir,Pd,and Ru NPs(loading~7 wt%) through pulsed laser irradiation in the liquids *** resulting NPs-decorated CuO nanorods were characterized spectroscopically and employed as multifunctional electrocatalysts in OER,HER,and the furfural oxidation reactions(FOR).Ir-CuO nanorods afford the lowest overpotential of~345 mV(HER) and 414 mV(OER) at 10 mA cm^(-2),provide the highest 2-furoic acid yield(~10.85 mM) with 64.9% selectivity,and the best Faradaic efficiency~72.7% in 2 h of FOR at 1.58 V(***).In situ electrochemical-Raman analysis of the Ir-CuO detects the formation of the crucial intermediates,such as Cu(Ⅲ)-oxide,Cu(OH)_(2),and Ir_x(OH)_y,on the electrode-electrolyte surface,which act as a promoter for HER and *** Ir-CuO ‖ Ir-CuO in a coupled HER and FOR-electrolyzer operates at~200 mV lower voltage,compared with the conventional electrolyzer and embodies the dual advantage of energy-saving H_(2) and 2-furoic acid production.

Silica thin films synthesized sol–gel process are proposed as flexible encapsulation materials.A sol–gel process provides a dense and stable amorphous silica structure,yielding an extremely high elastic deformation limit of 4.9%and extremely low water vapor transmission rate(WVTR)of 2.90×10^(−4)g/(m^(2)∙day)at 60℃and relative humidity of 85%.The WVTR is not degraded by cyclic bending deformations for the bending radius corresponding to a tensile strain of 3.3%in the silica encapsulation film,implying that the silica thin film is robust against the formation of pinhole-type defects by cyclic bending *** organic solar cells encapsulated with the silica films operate without degradation in power conversion efficiency for 50,000 bending cycles for a bending radius of 6 mm.

Usefulness of transcatheter arterial embolization for eighty-three patients with secondary postpartum hemorrhage:Focusing on difference in angiographic findings

BACKGROUND Transcatheter arterial embolization(TAE)has been widely used as an effective and a safe treatment method and was often used as an alternative to the surgical management,but there are limited studies on the efficacy and the safety for patients undergoing their secondary postpartum hemorrhage(PPH).AIM To evaluate the usefulness of TAE for secondary PPH focusing on the angiographic *** We conducted a research from January 2008 to July 2022 on all 83 patients(mean:32 years,range:24-43 years)presented with secondary PPH and they were treated with TAE in two university *** medical records and angiography were retrospective reviewed in order to evaluate the patients’characteristics,delivery details,clinical status and peri-embolization management,angiography and embolization details,technical/clinical success and *** group with active bleeding sign and the group without it were also compared and *** On angiography,46(55.4%)patients showed active bleeding signs such as contrast extravasation(n=37)or pseudoaneurysm(n=8)or both(n=1),and 37(44.6%)patients showed non-active bleeding signs such as only spastic uterine artery(n=2)or hyperemia(n=35).In the active bleeding sign group there were more multiparous patients,low platelet count,prothrombin time prolongation,and high transfusion *** technical success rates were 97.8%(45/46)in active bleeding sign group and 91.9%(34/37)in non-active bleeding sign group,and the overall clinical success rates were 95.7%(44/46)and 97.3%(36/37).An uterine rupture with peritonitis and abscess formation occurred to one patient after the embolization,therefore hysterostomy and retained placenta removal were performed which was a major *** TAE is an effective and a safe treatment method for controlling secondary PPH regardless of angiographic findings.
