Background:Failure to rescue h.s been an effective quality metric in congenital h.art ***,mor-bidity and mortality depend greatly on non-modifiable individual factors and h.ve a weak correlation with.better-quality *** aim to measure th. complications,mortality,and risk factors in pediatric patients undergoing congenital h.art surgery in a h.gh.complexity institution located in a middle-income country and compare it with.oth.r institutions th.t h.ve conducted a similar ***:A retrospective observational study was conducted in a h.gh.complexity service provider institution,in Cali,*** pediatric patients undergoing any congenital h.art surgery between 2019 and 2022 were *** main outcomes evaluated in th. study were complication,mortality,and failure to rescue *** and multivariate logistic regression analysis was performed with.mortality as th. outcome ***:We evaluated 308 congenital h.art *** th. outcomes,201(65%)complications occurred,23(7.5%)patients died,and th. FTR of th. entire coh.rt was 11.4%.Th. presence of a postoperative complication(OR 14.88,CI 3.06–268.37,p=0.009),age(OR 0.79,CI 0.57–0.96,p=0.068),and urgent/emergent surgery(OR 8.14,CI 2.97–28.66,ph. most significant variables in predicting ***:Failure to rescue is an effective and comparable quality measure in h.alth.are institutions and is th. major contributor to postoperative mortality in congenital h.art *** our h.gh.r mortality and complication rate,we obtained a comparable failure to rescue rate to h.gh.income countries’h.alth.institutions.

Th. h.man brain is a complex system, wh.se activity exh.bits flexible and continuous reorganization across space and time. Th. decomposition of wh.le-brain recordings into h.rmonic modes h.s revealed a repertoire of gradient-like activity patterns associated with.distinct brain functions. h.wever, th. way th.se activity patterns are expressed over time with.th.ir ch.nges in various brain states remains unclear. h.re, we investigate h.alth. participants taking th. serotonergic psych.delic N,N-dimeth.ltryptamine(DMT) with.th. h.rmonic Decomposition of Spacetime(h.DES) framework th.t can ch.racterize h.w different h.rmonic modes defined in space are expressed over time. h.DES demonstrates significant decreases in contributions across most low-frequency h.rmonic modes in th. DMT-induced brain state. Wh.n normalizing th. contributions by condition(DMT and non-DMT), we detect a decrease specifically in th. second functional h.rmonic, wh.ch.represents th. uni-to transmodal functional h.erarch. of th. brain,supporting th. leading h.poth.sis th.t functional h.erarch. is ch.nged in psych.delics. Moreover, h.DES'dynamic spacetime measures of fractional occupancy, life time and latent space provide a precise description of th. significant ch.nges of th. spacetime h.erarch.cal organization of brain activity in th. psych.delic state.

During th. next 10 years Brazil's agricultural area will expand to meet increased domestic and worldwide demand for food,fuel,and *** ch.ices regarding land use will determine to wh.t degree th.s expansion will h.ve adverse effects th.t include soil erosion,reservoir siltation,water quality problems,loss of biodiversity and social conflict,especially around indigenous *** paper presents an up-to-date inventory of soil erosion in Brazil caused by crop and livestock activities and provides estimates based on th.ee different h.poth.tical land-use scenarios to accommodate th. expansion of Brazilian agricultural activity by 2020:Scenario 1-expansion of cropping into areas of natural vegetation,with.ut adoption of conservation practices;Scenario 2-expansion of cropping into areas of degraded pasture,with.ut adoption of conservation practices;Scenario 3-expansion of cropping into areas of degraded pasture,togeth.r with.conservation practices in 100%of th. expanded *** worst-case scenario involves expansion of agriculture into areas of native vegetation in th. Brazilian Savannah.Cerrado)and Brazilian rainforest(Amazon)biomes,and could increase total soil erosion in Brazil(currently about 800 million metric tons a year)by as much.as 20%.In th. best-case scenar-io,crop expansion under a conservation agriculture model would utilize currently degraded pasture,especially in th. Savannah.circa 40 million h.ctares),reducing soil erosion in Brazil by around 20%.For th.s to occur,h.wever,a national soil and water conservation policy needs to be implemented in Brazil to support a sustainable model of agriculture in wh.ch.th. environment can be preserved as much.as possible.

Biosph.re reserves are protected areas wh.se purpose is to combine conservation and sustainable ***,th.ir effectiveness h.s not been tested sufficiently,especially from an ecological and genetic ap*** th.s sense,th. Peromyscus genus represents an excellent bioindicator to address th.se questions,due to its sh.rt life and h.gh.evolutionary rate and *** conservation managers,genetic structure can increase th. rate of loss of genetic diversity because alleles exclusive of a subpopulation are more likely to disappear as a consequence of genetic drift in comparison with.a panmictic *** we analyzed th. abundance,movement distances,morph.logy/morph.metry and genetic structure of 3 populations of Mexican deer mouse(Peromyscus mexicanus)located in different protected zones of La Tigra National Park(h.nduras).Our results are consistent among th. 3 approach.s and sh.wed th. h.gh.st values of abundance,morph.metry and genetic diversity in th. population located at th. core zone,wh.reas non-statistically significant differences were found between buffer and transition zone populations,suggesting suitable effectiveness of conservation management in th. core zone but a lack of ecological buffering function of th. oth.r *** addition,th. low movement distances and h.gh.genetic structure among th. studied populations provide evidence of poor conservation management in th. buffer and transition ***,we discuss th. utility of th. novel meth.dology used in th.s work,combining morph.metry,abundance and genetics,in testing th. effectiveness of conservation strategies in biosph.re reserves,and th. value of th. We demonstrate th.t it is possible to form non-ph.sph.lipid fluid bilayers in aqueous milieu with.a mixture of palmitic acid (PA),ch.lesterol (Ch.l),and ch.lesterol sulfate (Sch.l) in a molar proportion of 30/28/*** self-assemblies are sh.wn to be bilayers in th. liquid ordered *** are stable between ph.5 and *** th.s ph.range,th. protonation/deprotonation of PA carboxylic group is observed but th.s ch.nge does not appear to alter th. stability of th.se bilayers,a beh.vior contrasting with.th.t observed for binary mixtures of PA/Ch.l,and PA/*** multilamellar dispersions formed spontaneously from th. PA/Ch.l/Sch.l mixture could be successfully extruded to form Large Unilamellar Vesicles (LUVs).Th.se LUVs sh.w interesting permeability properties,linked with.th.ir h.gh.sterol *** non-ph.sph.lipid liposomes can sustain a ph.gradient (ph.internal 8/ph.external 6) 100 times longer th.n LUVs made of 1-palmitoyl-2-oleoyl-sn-glycero-3-ph.sph.ch.line (POPC) and ch.lesterol,with.a molar ratio of 60/***,th. non-ph.sph.lipid LUVs are sh.wn to protect ascorbic acid from an oxidizing environment (1 mM iron(III)).Once entrapped in liposomes,ascorbic acid displays a degradation rate similar to th.t obtained in th. absence of iron(III).Th.se results sh.w th. possibility to form novel nanocontainers from a mixture of a monoalkylated amph.ph.le and sterols,with.a good ph.stability and sh.wing interesting permeability properties.

Evaluation of biostimulation and Tween 80 addition for th. bioremediation of long-term DDT-contaminated soil

Th. bioremediation of a long-term contaminated soil th.ough.biostimulation and surfactant addition was evaluated. Th. concentrations of 1,1,1-trich.oro-2,2-bis（4-ch.oroph.nyl）eth.ne（DDT） and its metabolites 1,1-dich.oro-2,2-bis（4-ch.oroph.nyl） eth.ne（DDD） and1,1-dich.oro-2,2-bis（4-ch.oroph.nyl） eth.lene（DDE） were monitored during an 8-week remediation process. Ph.sicoch.mical ch.racterization of th. treated soil was performed before and after th. bioremediation process. Th. isolation and identification of predominant microorganisms during th. remediation process were also carried out. Th. efficiency of detoxification was evaluated after each.bioremediation protocol. h.midity and p h.and th. h.terotroph.c microorganism count were monitored weekly. Th. DDT concentration was reduced by 79% after 8 weeks via biostimulation with.surfactant addition（B ＋ S） and 94.3%via biostimulation alone（B）. Likewise, th. concentrations of th. metabolites DDE and DDD were reduced to levels below th. quantification limits. Th. microorganisms isolated during bioremediation were identified as Bacillus th.ringiensis, Flavobacterium sp., Cuprivadius sp.,Variovorax soli, Ph.nylobacterium sp. and Lysobacter sp., among oth.rs. Analysis with.scanning electron microscopy（SEM） allowed visualization of th. colonization patterns of soil particles. Th. toxicity of th. soil before and after bioremediation was evaluated using Vibrio fisch.ri as a bioluminescent sensor. A decrease in th. toxic potential of th. soil was verified by th. increase of th. concentration/effect relationsh.p EC50 to 26.9% and 27.2% for B ＋ S and B, respectively, compared to 0.4% obtained for th. soil before treatment and 2.5%by natural attenuation after 8 weeks of treatment.

In recent years,h.droth.rmal treatment h.s been considered as among th. most promising option for sludge solubilisation and carbon recovery in terms of sludge *** th.s study,th. effect of different individual h.droth.rmal operating conditions like temperature(110-250℃),sludge ph.6-13)and reaction time(0.5-3 h.were varied to understand th.ir influence on sludge *** most effective h.droth.rmal conditions(severity factor of 9.7)were found to be at 200℃,sludge ph.of 12 and reaction time of 1 h.wh.ch.solubilised about 1743 mg/g and 131 mg/g of COD and carboh.drates respectively into th. aqueous ***,gas ch.omatograph.-mass spectrometry(GC-MS)analysis was done th.t identified th. organic compounds in th. treated liquid ph.se to be mainly carboxylic acids,ph.nols,esters,and th.ir *** furth.r studies are required to efficiently separate and recover th. different organic compounds present,th.s work provides more insigh.s for future valorisation of th. organic rich.h.droth.rmally treated liquid ph.se.

Parental care is a common strategy in many animal groups, to increase survival of th. off-spring. h.re, we report parental care in th. fresh.ater crab Sylviocarcinus pictus. A female caugh. in th. Amazon River, Brazil, bore juvenile crabs rath.r th.n eggs on h.r abdomen. Kept in th. laboratory, th. female retained th. juveniles on th. abdomen for 17 days, after wh.ch.th. juveniles left th. abdomen. A total of 341 juvenile crabs measuring 3.45 ± 0.12 mmwere recorded. Th.s pattern of parental care is very important for th. maintenance of local populations of S. pictus, because if th. larvae were released, as occurs in many marine species, th.y would drift downstream.
