Atomic/nano-scale in-situ probing the shuttling effect of redox mediator in Na-O_(2) batteries

Sodium-oxygen batteries(Na-O_(2))have attracted extensive attention as promising energy storage systems due to their high energy density and low *** mediators are often employed to improve Na-O_(2) battery performance,however,their effect on the formation mechanism of the oxygen reduction product(NaO_(2))is still ***,we have investigated the formation mechanism of NaO_(2) during the discharge process in the presence of a redox mediator with the help of atomic/nano-scale in-situ characterization tools used in concert(*** force microscope,electrochemical quartz crystal microbalance(EQCM)and laser nano-particle analyzer).As a result,real-time observations on different time scales show that by shuttling electrons to the electrolyte,the redox mediator enables formation of NaO_(2) in the solution-phase instead of within a finite region near the electrode *** findings provide new fundamental insights on the understanding of Na-O_(2) batteries and new consequently perspectives on designing high performance metal-O_(2) batteries and other related functions.

The authors explore the intraseasonal oscillation(ISO)of rainfall anomalies in South China,the related circulation regimes,and discuss the possible causes of the large variability of the positive rainfall anomalies over South China during the winter of the 1982/83,1997/98 and 2015/16 super EI Nino ***-by-case analysis shows that the 10–20-day ISO associated with the successive heavy rainfall events lead to the positive anomalies of winter rainfall in the three ***,the 20–50-day ISO is relatively stronger in the winter of 1982/83 and 2015/16 but weaker in the winter of 1997/*** for a different speed,the anomalies of the 200-hPa wave train associated with the two ISOs both propagate eastward along the westerly jet between 20 N and 30 *** the winter of 1982/83 and 2015/16,when the upper-level subseasonal wave trains in different periods pass through South China,the in-phase enhancement of upper-level divergences and the pumping effect could induce the persistent heavy rainfall events,which facilitate the stronger seasonal-mean *** the 10–20-day ISO alone in the winter of 1997/98 could cause the higher-frequency rainfall events,the weaker 20–50-day ISO attenuates the anomalies of the South China winter ***,the joint effects of the 10–20-and 20–50-day ISOs are critical for the larger amount of above-normal rainfall over South China during the mature phase of super EI Nino events.

After decades of development,protein and peptide drugs have now grown into a major drug class in the *** identification and validation are crucial for the discovery of protein and peptide drugs,and bioinformatics prediction of targets based on the characteristics of known target proteins will help improve the efficiency and success rate of target ***,owing to the developmental history in the pharmaceutical industry,previous systematic exploration of the target spaces has mainly focused on traditional small-molecule drugs,while studies related to protein and peptide drugs are ***,we systematically explore the target spaces in the human genome specifically for protein and peptide *** with other proteins,both successful protein and peptide drug targets have many special characteristics,and are also significantly different from those of small-molecule drugs in many *** on these features,we develop separate effective genome-wide target prediction models for protein and peptide ***,a user-friendly web server,Predictor Of Protein and Pept Ide drugs’therapeutic Targets(POPPIT)(http://***/),is established,which provides not only target prediction specifically for protein and peptide drugs but also abundant annotations for predicted targets.

With the rise of optogenetic manipulation of neurons,the effects of optogenetic heating on temperature-sensitive physi-ological processes,and the damage to surrounding tissues have been *** manuscript reports the fabrication of a highly temperature-sensitive semi-interpenetrating optical hydrogel fiber(TSOHF)using the integrated dynamic wet-spinning *** exhibits a structural tunable diameter,clear core/sheath structure,tunable temperature-sensitivity,excellent light propagation property(0.35 dB cm^(-1),650 nm laser light),and good biocompatibility(including tissue-like Young’s modulus,stable dimensional stability,and low cytotoxicity).Based on these properties,a potential application of optogenetic regulation of neural tissue(hypoglossal nerve),with controllable temperature using TSOHF was designed and ***,this work provides new insight into molecular design and a practical approach to continually manufacture a temperature-sensitive hydrogel optical fiber for applications in intelligent photomedicine.

High soil pH is harmful to plant growth and development. The organization and dynamics of microfilament （MF） cytoskeleton play important roles in the plant anti-alkaline process. In the previous study, we determined that alkaline stress induces a signal that triggers MF dynamicsdependent root growth. In this study we identified that PKS5 kinase involves in this regulatory process to facilitate the signal to reach the downstream target ME Under pH 8.3 treatment, the depolymerization of MF was faster in pks5-4 （PKS5 kinase constitutively activated） than that in wild-type plants. The inhibition of wild-type, pks5-1, and pks5-4 root growth by pH 8.3 was correlated to their MF depolymerization rate. When the plants were treated with phalloidin to stabilize MF, the high pH sensitive phenotype of pks5-4 can be partially rescued. When the plants were treated with a kinase inhibitor Staurosporine, the MF depolymerization rate in pks5-4 was similar as that in wild-type under pH 8.3 treatment and the sensitivity of root growth was also rescued. However, when the plants were treated with LaC13, a calcium channel blocker, the root growth sensitivity ofpks5-4 under pH 8.3 was rescued but MF depolymerization was even faster than that of plants without LaC13 treatment. These results suggest that the PKS5 involves in external high pH signal mediated MF depolymerization, and that may be independent of calcium signal.

The population of tri-spine horseshoe crabs(HSCs)Tachypleus tridentatus has sharply decreased in recent *** and manual releasing are now used to recover *** order to accelerate the growth of *** in indoor environment,in this study,gut microbiota of 2nd instar *** was supposed to be improved by putting probiotics in water environment and thus promoted the health and growth of the *** 16S rRNA sequencing of gut samples,we examined the intestinal microbiome of juvenile HSCs and studied the effect of *** showed that there was no significant difference between groups fed with high and low concentrations(1×10^(7),1×10^(12)CFU mL^(−1))of Bacillus subtilis and high concentration(1×10^(12)CFU mL^(−1))of Lactobacillus,and no significant difference compared with the control group,but the diversity of Lactobacillus group with low concentration(1×10^(7)CFU mL^(−1))was significantly higher than those of other ***-mediated functions predicted by PICRUSt showed that‘Cellular Processes’,‘Metabolism’and‘Organismal Systems’pathways significantly increased in groups of Bacillus subtilis and Lactobacillus group with low *** results showed that two types of probiotics with different concentrations have other effects on the structure,richness and function of intestinal *** searching the literature and conducting pre-experiments,we forecasted the short time of breeding under the probiotic environment may not have much *** present study for the first time investigated the impact of probiotics on gut microbiota of juvenile HSCs and found them may benefit for the growth and health of HSCs.

Due to its large heat transfer area and stable thermal performance,the middledeep coaxial borehole heat exchanger(CBHE)has become one of the emerging technologies to extract geothermal *** this paper,a numerical modeling on a three-dimensional unsteady heat transfer model of a CBHE was conducted by using software FEFLOW,in which the model simulation was compared with the other studies and was validated with experimental *** this basis,a further simulation was done in respect of assessing the influencing factors of thermal extraction performance and thermal influence radius of the *** results show that the outlet temperature of the heat exchanger decreases rapidly at the initial stage,and then tended to be stable;and the thermal influence radius increases with the increase of borehole *** heat extraction rate of the borehole increases linearly with the geothermal *** heat capacity has limited impact on the heat extraction rate,but has a great influence on the thermal influence radius of the *** there is groundwater flow in the reservoir,the increase of groundwater velocity will result in the rise of both outlet temperature and heat extraction *** heat affected zone extends along with the groundwater flow direction;and its influence radius is increasing along with flow *** addition,the material of the inner pipe has a significant effect on the heat loss in the pipe,so it is recommended that the material with low thermal conductivity should be used if possible.

Near-microscopic grain boundary facilitates fatigue crack propagation in a polycrystalline Al–Zn–Mg–Cu alloy

In present study, grain characteristics with sizes within 10–30 μm were fabricated from a same Al–Zn–Mg–Cu alloy, FCP behaviors of the alloys with small grain(SG alloy), medium grain(MG alloy) and large grain(LG alloy)were investigated and related fatigue fracture morphology was analyzed. With the enhancement of stress intensity factor range(ΔK), the alloy with larger grains possessed faster FCP rate, which were successively arranged as SG alloy > MG alloy > LG alloy at initial stage while turned to LG alloy > MG alloy > SG alloy at final stage for the stable expanding region. Except for conventional characteristics of striations, tearing ridges, secondary cracks,second phases, voids and dimples, more prominent grain boundary features appeared on fracture surface, especially for MG and LG alloy. The calculation of cyclic plastic zone(CPZ) sizes proved that grain boundary participated and promoted FCP behavior when CPZ covered grain and grain boundary together.
