The Jianglangshan Geopark in the western Zhejiang Province of Southeast China is well-known for its spectacular red-colored sandstone landforms. Little is known about the depositional processes of the conglomerate-dominated Fangyan Formation, the lithologic base of the Danxia landforms in this geopark. Based on detailed field investigation of lithology, sedimentary structures, bed thickness and geometry, five facies are recognized: facies A(matrixsupported cobble conglomerate), facies B(pebble conglomerate), facies C(pebbly sandstone), facies D(fine-grained sandstone) and facies E(mudstone). The results show that streamflow-dominated fans were the main depositional processes responsible for the accumulation of the Fangyan Formation along the mountain fronts. These fan conglomerates form the base for the evolution of the Danxia landscapes owing to the uplift and erosion of the study area. In contrast, the fine-grained sedimentary successions produced by fluvial floodplains in the distal part of the fans were thinner and more easily weathered. Such sedimentary facies distribution patterns were thought to be similar during Late Cretaceous across Southeast China. The Danxia landforms are largely the geographical expressions of the conglomerate-dominated redbeds in the proximal-middle fans.

The Gan-Hang Belt in Southeast China is characterized by several igneous and siliciclastic basins associated with crustal extension during Late Mesozoic. The sedimentary evolution of the red basins is still poorly understood. In this study, sedimentary fades analysis and pebble counting were performed on outcrop sections of the Late Cretaceous Guifeng Group in the Yongfeng-Chongren Basin in central Jiangxi Province. Thirty-five conglomerate outcrops were chosen to measure pebble lithology, size, roundness, weathering degree and preferred orientation. Results show that gravels are mostly fine to coarse pebbles and comprise dominantly quartzites, metamorphic rocks, granitoids and sandstones. Rose diagrams based on imbricated pebbles indicate variable paleocurrent directions. Combining with typical sedimentary structures and vertical successions, we suggest that the Guifeng Group were deposited in alluvial fan, river and playa lake depositional systems. The proposed depositional model indicates that the Hekou Formation represents the start-up stage of the faulted basin, accompanied by sedimentation in alluvial fan and braided river environments. Then this basin turned into a stable expansion stage during the deposition of the Tangbian Formation. Except for minor coarse sediments at the basin margin, the other area is covered with fine-grained sediments of lake and river environments. The Lianhe Formation, however, is once again featured by conglomerates, suggesting a probable tectonic event. Therefore, the study region possibly suffered two tectonic events represented by the conglomerates of the Hekou and Lianhe formations in the context of the crustal extension in Southeast China.

The tafoni that develop in sandstone cliffs have attracted the interest of both scientists and the general public. A necklace-like tafone system, referred to here as beaded tafoni, has developed in the prominent cliffs of the Danxia landscapes within the Longhushan Global Geopark in the subtropical zone of South China. This paper presents a new model of the formation of this system of extraordinary beaded tafoni. The cliffs of the Danxia landscapes of the study area are composed of an alluvial conglomerate(i.e.,red beds). These Danxia landscapes have subrounded summits that are covered by vegetation and experience a nearly vertical water flow induced by gravity. Erosion and collapse of the outsized gravels and concentrated pebbles in the red beds give rise to the initial development of the beaded tafoni. The tafoni then become rounded and beaded as a result of reworking and decay by fluvial outwash. During storms, intense water flows run vertically down the cliffs and generate a whirling motion in the ***, the inside walls of the tafoni gradually become wider and smoother. During the late development stage, the beaded tafoni tend to become indistinct or disappear because of the interconnection of the tafoni and subsequent merging with the bedding-controlled cavities.

BACKGROUND: Approximately 20% to 30% of patients with coronary artery disease (CAD)develop recurrent angina pectoris following successful and complete coronary revascularization utilizingpercutaneous coronary intervention (PCI). We aim to investigate predictors of recurrent angina pectorisin patients who have undergone successful coronary revascularization using PCI, but on repeat coronaryangiography have no need for secondary ***: The study comprised 3,837 patients with CAD, who were enrolled from January2007 to June 2019. They had undergone successful PCI;some of them redeveloped anginapectoris within one year after the procedure, but on repeat coronary angiography had no need forrevascularization. Thrombolysis in myocardial infarction (TIMI) frame count was used to evaluatethe velocity of coronary blood in the follow-up angiogram. Multivariate logistic regression was usedto investigate risk factors for recurrent angina pectoris. Similarly, predictors of recurrent anginaaccording to the TIMI frame count were assessed using multivariate linear ***: In this retrospective study, 53.5% of patients experienced recurrent angina *** multivariate logistic regression, the following characteristics were statistically identified as riskfactors for recurrent angina pectoris: female sex, older age, current smoking, low-density lipoproteincholesterol (LDL-C) ≥1.8 mmol/L, and an elevated TIMI frame count (P for all function, and recurrentangina pectoris after initially successful PCI. Preliminary Response of Soil Fauna to Simulated N Deposition in Three Typical Subtropical Forests

A field-scale experiment arranged in a complete randomized block design with three N addition treatments including a control (no addition of N), a low N (5 g m-2 year-1), and a medium N (10 g m-2 year-1) was performed in each of the three typical forests, a pine (Pinus massoniana Lamb.) forest (PF), a pine-broadleaf mixed forest (MF) and a mature monsoon evergreen broadleaf forest (MEBF), of the Dinghushan Biosphere Reserve in subtropical China to study the response of soil fauna community to additions of N. Higher NH4+ and NO3- concentrations and a lower soil pH occurred in the medium N treatment of MEBF, whereas the NO3- concentration was the lowest in PF after the additions of N. The response of the density, group abundance and diversity index of soil fauna to addition of N varied with the forest type, and all these variables decreased with increasing N under MEBF but the trend was opposite under PF. The N treatments had no significant effects on these variables under MF. Compared with the control plots, the medium N treatment had significant negative effect on soil fauna under MEBF. The group abundance of soil fauna increased significantly with additions of higher N rates under PF. These results suggested that the response of soil fauna to N deposition varied with the forest type and N deposition rate, and soil N status is one of the important factors affecting the response of soil fauna to N deposition.

Objective Foreign studies have reported that coronary artery disease(CAD) patients with high baseline low-density lipoprotein cholesterol(LDL-C) may have a good prognosis, which is called the “cholesterol paradox”. This study aimed to examine whether the “cholesterol paradox” also exists in the Chinese *** A total of 2,056 patients who underwent the first percutaneous coronary intervention(PCI)between 2014 and 2016 were enrolled in this retrospective cohort study and classified into two groups based on baseline LDL-C = 2.6 mmol/L(100 mg/d L). The outcomes of interest included major adverse cardiovascular events(MACE), all-cause mortality, recurrent nonfatal myocardial infarction, unexpected coronary revascularization, or any nonfatal *** All-cause mortality occurred in 8 patients(0.7%) from the low-LDL-C group and 12 patients(2.4%) in the high-LDL-C group, with a significant difference between the two groups(adjusted hazard ratio: 4.030, 95% confidence interval: 1.088–14.934;P = 0.037). However, no significant differences existed for the risk of MACE or other secondary endpoints, such as unexpected revascularization, nor any nonfatal stroke in the two *** In this study, a high baseline LDL-C was not associated with a low risk of clinical outcomes in CAD patients undergoing first PCI, which suggested that the “cholesterol paradox” may be inapplicable to Chinese populations.

Granites of the Mesozoic Era are widespread in South China,and many of them have been shaped into spectacular landscapes with high tourism development ***,the controlling factors and evolution stages of these granite landscapes were poorly *** this study,the Hypsometric Integral curves(HIc),and Hypsometric Integral(HI)values of the Mount Wugong were extracted from digital elevation model data in a geographic information system *** relationships between the HIc,HI values,and factors including the tectonism,lithology and climate of the study area were analyzed to determine the evolution of granite landscapes evolution in the main scenic areas of the Mount *** HI values on the northwestern and southeastern slopes of the Mount Wugongshan range from 0.223 to 0.415 and 0.385 to 0.465,respectively;the HIc are mainly concave on the northwestern slopes and irregularly‘Sshaped’on the southeastern *** main ridge of the granite geomorphic scenic area of the Mount Wugongshan,where the alpine meadow geomorphic landscape is located,is in the youthful stage of geomorphic evolution,the *** and ***-Wentang scenic areas are in the old stage,and the Yangshimu scenic area is in the mature *** in watershed scale may be the main reason for the variabilities in geomorphic evolution in the area,while the regular development of tectonic phenomena is a key factor shaping the spatial variability in the watersheds on both sides of the main ridge.

Association of ABO blood groups with the severity of coronary artery disease: a cross-sectional study

Objective To investigate whether ABO blood groups is associated with the severity of coronary artery disease(CAD). Methods Between January 2015 and December 2017, 1425 first diagnosed CAD patients confirmed by selective coronary angiography were recruited into this cross-sectional study, and their baseline characteristics, ABO blood groups, Gensini score were collected. Multiple linear regression analysis was performed to test the association between the severity of CAD and ABO blood groups. Results The Gensini score was significantly higher in the blood group A than in the non-A groups(41.2 ± 32 vs. 38 ± 27;P = 0.026). After adjusting for age, male, smoking, family history of CAD, hypertension, diabetes mellitus and hypercholesterolemia, multivariate linear regression indicated that blood group A was associated with the severity of CAD(β= 3.298, 95% CI: 0.91–6.505, P = 0.044). In diabetes group, A blood type was also associated with increased Gensini score(P = 0.02) after adjusting for age, male, family history of CAD, hypercholesterolemia, smoking and hypertension. Conclusion In this cross-sectional study, the data indicated that blood group A was an independent risk factor of severity of CAD in Chinese population and Chinese patients with type 2 diabetes.
