Feed supplementation withα-linolenic acid(ALA)and linoleic acid(LA)increases their content in muscle,ALA increases n-3 polyunsaturated fatty acids and decrease n-6/n-3 ratio in muscle,and LA increases rumenic ***,high LA supplementation may have negative effects on lambs’lipid oxidative stability of *** the sources of ALA and LA are fed as fresh forage,the negative effects are counterbalanced by the presence of other bioactive compounds,as vitamin E(mainlyα-tocopherol)and polyphenols,which delay the lipid oxidation in *** is a wide consensus on the capability of vitamin E delaying lipid oxidation on lamb meat,and its feed content should be adjusted to the length of supplementation.A high dietary inclusion of proanthocyanidins,phenolic compounds and terpenes reduce the lipid oxidation in muscle and may improve the shelf life of meat,probably as a result of a combined effect with dietary vitamin ***,the recommended dietary inclusion levels depend on the polyphenol type and concentration and antioxidant capacity of the feedstuffs,which cannot be compared easily because no routine analytical grading methods are yet *** phenolic compounds content in dietary ingredients/supplements for lambs are reported,no specific association with animal physiology responses may be established.

During the last decades,the use of nanotechnology in med icine has effectively been translated to the design of drug delivery systems,nanostructured tissues,diagnostic platforms,and novel nanomaterials against several human diseases and infectious ***-enabled vaccines have been positioned as solutions to mitigate the pandemic outbreak caused by the novel pathogen severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus *** fast-track the development of vaccines,unprecedented industrial and academic collaborations emerged around the world,resulting in the clinical translation of effective vaccines in less than one *** this article,we provide an overview of the path to translation from the bench to the clinic of nanotechnology-enabled messenger ribonucleic acid vaccines and examine in detail the types of delivery systems used,their mechanisms of action,obtained results during each phase of their clinical development and their regulatory approval *** also analyze how nanotechnology is impacting global health and economy during the COVID-19 pandemic and beyond.

Food-derived peptides with inhibitory capacity for HMG-CoA reductase activity: a potential nutraceutical for hypercholesterolemia

Cardiovascular diseases (CVDs) are the leading global cause of mortality and disease burden. statins are the most prescribed lipid-lowering drugs to treat hypercholesterolemia and prevent CVDs. The biochemical mechanism of statins consists of competitive inhibition of the 3-hydroxy-3-methylglutaryl-CoA reductase enzyme (HMG-CoAR)， the limiting enzyme in cholesterol biosynthesis. Due to statin intolerance in some patient groups， the search for new inhibitors is a field of great interest. This review focusses on the studies reporting the inhibitory effect of protein hydrolysates and biopeptides on the HMG-CoAR enzyme activity. The analysis of the action mechanism and physicochemical characteristics of the HMG-CoAR inhibitory peptides revealed that the molecular weight， amino acid composition， charge， and polarity are key aspects of the interaction with the HMG-CoAR enzyme. In conclusion， this review reveals the potential of using food peptides as new cholesterol-lowering agents and opens a new interesting field of research. However， clinical approaches are mandatory to confirm their therapeutic hypercholesterolemic effect.

Virility and sexual pleasure have long been associated with penile size and this,in turn,has typically been linked to some anthropometric measurements,such as foot size or height,leading to various misconceptions from both men and *** intention is to estimate penile size parameters in Argentina and evaluate the correlation between penile size and certain anthropometric *** is a cross-sectional,descriptive,multicenter,and observational *** patients who underwent a urological procedure were included in four hospitals located in different regions of the *** anthropometric measurements were obtained:height,weight,penile circumference,flaccid and stretched length,and foot length.A total of 8o0 patients were *** left foot was 26.4 *** flaccid penile length was 11.4(95%confidence interval[CI]:8-14)cm,and mean penile circumference was 10.1(95%CI:8-12)***,mean stretched penis was 15.2(95%CI:11-18.5)*** can confirm that estimates of the average penile measurements in Argentina are flaccid penis length of 11.4 cm,penile circumference of 10.1 cm,and stretching the penis to the maximum in flaccidity of 15.2 *** between flaccid penis length,stretched out,penile circumference,height,weight,and length of the left foot were evaluated,finding low or no correlation between those mentioned,exceptforflaccidand stretched length.

Experimental Characterization of the supersonic Transitional Wake Downstream of a single Roughness Element

An experimental campaign was carried out to investigate the characteristics of the transitional supersonic wake downstream of a single roughness element. Two Mach numbers were tested, 1.6 and 2.3, and two roughness heights, 0.1 mm and 1 mm. Unsteady and steady wall temperature measurements were taken along and across the roughness wake. The spatial trends of adiabatic wall temperature and heat flux, and the spectral time evolution of temperature were documented in this paper. The initial wall temperature was varied during the temperature measurements, and the resulting steady and unsteady effects on the roughness wake were investigated. The streamwise trends of heat-flux and adiabatic-wall temperature confirmed the transitional nature of the roughness wake. spectral analysis showed that roughness height and initial wall temperature had the same type of effect on the wake wall-temperature fluctuations. The effect of roughness height was more sensible at Mach 2.3, and that of the initial wall temperature was more evident with the smallest roughness also tested at Mach 2.3.

Ulcerative colitis in smokers,non-smokers and ex-smokers

smoking is a major environmental factor that interferes in the establishment and clinical course of ulcerative colitis (UC). Firstly, the risk of smoking status impact in the development of UC is reviewed, showing that current smoking has a protective association with UC. similarly, being a former smoker is associated with an increased risk of UC. The concept that smoking could have a role in determining the inflammatory bowel disease phenotype is also discussed. Gender may also be considered, as current smoking delays disease onset in men but not in women. No clear conclusions can be driven from the studies trying to clarify whether childhood passive smoking or prenatal smoke exposure have an influence on the development of UC, mainly due to methodology flaws. The influence of smoking on disease course is the second aspect analysed. some studies show a disease course more benign in smokers that in non-smokers, with lower hospitalizations rates, less flare-ups, lower use of oral steroids and even less risk of proximal extension. This is not verified by some other studies. similarly, the rate of colectomy does not seem to be determined by the smoking status of the patient. The third issue reviewed is the use of nicotine as a therapeutic agent. The place of nicotine in the treatment of UC is unclear, although it could be useful in selected cases, particularly in recent ex-smokers with moderate but refractory attacks of UC. Finally, the effect of smoking cessation in UC patients is summarised. Given that smoking represents a major worldwide cause of death, for inpatients with UC the risks of smoking far outweigh any possible benefit. Thus, physicians should advise, encourage and assist UC patients who smoke to quit.
