Poly(lactic acid)(PLA)composite films reinforced with microcrystalline cellulose(Mcc)extracted from pineapple leaf fibers(PALF)were prepared by a solution casting *** an attempt to improve the interaction between PLA and cellulose,two approaches were adopted;first,poly(ethylene glycol)(PEG)was used as a surfactant,and second,the cellulosic fibers were pre-treated using tert-butanol(TBA).Lignocellulosic and cellulosic substrates were characterized using Fourier transform infrared(FTIR),wide-angle X-ray scattering(WAXS),and thermogravimetrical analysis(TGA).Mcc from PALF showed good thermal stability,left few residues after decomposing,and exhibited high crystallinity ***,thermal and thermomechanical properties of the PLA composites were also *** PLA endotherms were observed in composites with TBA-treated Mcc due to crystal nucleation *** ultimate tensile strain values for all composites were lower than that of the pristine ***,4 wt.%Mcc content provided balanced engineering properties in terms of static and dynamic tensile properties.

This paper describes a practical approach to identify nodal price compensation payment for nodal consumers willing to reduce their energy consumption(consumers’ demand response). The implementation of a nodal reliability service pricing is based on contingency assessment of N-2 order for transmission lines. A representative annualized demand curve is used to reflect the system’s operation condition by seasons. Such curve is used to access the nodal reliability impact trough a whole year in order to determine back-payments(incentive payment) to users for service interruption. The IEEE_RTS 24 nodes system is used to implement the proposed approach.

cellulose,microcrystalline cellulose and nanocellulose were prepared from three agricultural waste resources:pineapple leaf(PALF),banana rachis(BR),and sugarcane bagasse(ScB).Each waste resource was first converted into microcrystalline cellulose which was subsequently converted into cellulose nanoparticles by using mild(30%w/v)and strong(60%w/v)sulfuric acid concentrations for *** transform infrared spectroscopy(FTIR),X-ray diffraction(XRD),and thermogravimetric analysis(TGA)were used to characterize each waste resource and extracted cellulosic ***,nanocelluloses were studied by zeta potential,size analysis,and transmission electron microscopy(TEM).cellulose nanowhiskers were successfully obtained and isolated with a 33%average yield by applying a mild acid *** BR and ScB proved to be more promising agricultural waste resources in terms of their crystalline cellulosic content and properties.

In nature hummingbirds face floral resources whose availability, quality and quantity can vary spatially and temporally. Thus, they must constantly make foraging decisions about which patches, plants and flowers to visit, partly as a function of the nectar reward. The uncertainty of these decisions would possibly be reduced if an individual could remember locations or use visual cues to avoid revisiting recently depleted flowers. In the present study, we carried out field experiments with white-eared hummingbirds Hylocharis leucotis, to evaluate their use of locations or visual cues when foraging on natural flowers Penstemon roseus. We evaluated the use of spatial memory by observing birds while they were foraging between two plants and within a single plant. Our results showed that hummingbirds prefer to use location when foraging in two plants, but they also use visual cues to efficiently locate unvisited rewarded flowers when they feed on a single plant. However, in absence of visual cues, in both experiments birds mainly used the location of previously visited flowers to make subsequent visits. Our data suggest that hummingbirds are capable of learning and employing this flexibility depending on the faced environmental conditions and the information acquired in previous visits [current Zoology 57 (4): 468–476, 2011].

In this review we study the nuclear pastas as they are expected to be formed in neutron star *** start with a study of the pastas formed in nuclear matter(composed of protons and neutrons),we follow with the role of the electron gas on the formation of pastas,and we then investigate the pastas in neutron star matter(nuclear matter embedded in an electron gas).Nuclear matter(NM)at intermediate temperatures(1 MeV≤T≤***),at saturation and and sub-saturation densities,and with proton content ranging from 30%to 50%was found to have liquid,gaseous and liquid-gas mixed *** isospin-dependent phase diagram was obtained along with the critical points,and the symmetry energy was calculated and compared to experimental data and other *** low temperatures(T≤1 MeV)NM produces crystal-like structures around satura-tion densities,and pasta-like structures at sub-saturation *** of the pasta structures were studied with cluster-recognition algorithms,caloric curve,the radial distribution function,the Lindemann coefficient,Kolmogorov statistics,Minkowski functionals;the symmetry energy of the pasta showed a connection with its *** star matter(NSM)is nuclear matter embedded in an electron *** electron gas is included in the calculation by the inclusion of an screened coulomb *** connect the NM pastas with those in neutron star matter(NSM),the role the strength and screening length of the coulomb interaction have on the formation of the pastas in NM was *** was found to exist even without the presence of the electron gas,but the effect of the coulomb interaction is to form more defined pasta structures,among other ***,it was determined that there is a minimal screening length for the developed structures to be independent of the cell *** star matter was found to have similar phases as NM,phase transitions,symmetry energy,structure function and thermal *** in NM,pasta f

Helicobacter pylori(H. pylori) is a gastric human pathogen associated with acute and chronic gastritis, 70% of all gastric ulcers, 85% of all duodenal ulcers, and both forms of stomach cancer, mucosal-associated lymphoid tissue(MALT) lymphoma and adenocarcinoma. Recently, attention has focused on possible relationship between presence of certain virulence factor and H. pylori-associated diseases. Some contradictory data between this bacterium and related disorders has been observed since not all the colonized individuals develop to severe disease. The reported diseases plausibility related to H. pylori specific virulence factors became an interesting story about this organism. Although a number of putative virulence factors have been identified including cytotoxin-associated gene a(cag A) and vac A, there are conflicting data about their actual participation as specific risk factor for H. pylori-related diseases. Duodenal ulcer promoting gene a(dup A) is a virulence factor of H. pylori that is highly associated with duodenal ulcer development and reduced risk of gastric cancer. The prevalence of dup A in H. pylori strains isolated from western countries is relatively higher than in H. pylori strains from Asian countries. current confusing epidemiological reports will continue unless future sophisticated and molecular studies provide data on functional and complete dup A cluster in H. pylori infected individuals. This paper elucidates available knowledge concerning role of dup A in virulence of H. pylori after a decade of its discovery.

Detection of Antinuclear Antibodies in canine Serum by Immunoperoxidase in MDcK and Indirect Immunofluorescence in HEp2 cells

Antinuclear antibodies are found in animals suffering from Systemic Lupus Erythematosus (SLE) and some other diseases, their presence in the blood is determined by antinuclear antibody (ANA) test using indirect immunofluorescence (IF) with HEp2 cells as a substrate. In this work, an immunoperoxidase (IP) assay was developed to evaluate the ANAs in canine sera, using canine kidney cell lines (MDcK) and compared with a commercial immunofluorescence test on Hep2 cells for this system, a fluoresceinated anti-canine Ig antibody was standardized. The study was performed on 50 sera from dogs submitted to the laboratory with different clinical diagnoses of autoimmune-associated diseases. The procedures on both cells were unified to perform comparisons of the reactions, direct sera or at different dilutions were added to a monolayer of permeabilized MDcK cells, followed by a peroxidized anti-canine IgG conjugate, and a substrate for the IP reaction. The same sera were tested on the commercial IF assay on Hep2 cell system. In 22/50 cases, the presence of LE cells in peripheral blood was determined. A high correlation was found in the detection of antinuclear antibodies between both cell lines and techniques, however there were differences in the reaction patterns in the nucleus and cytoplasm between cell lines. The diffuse nuclear pattern observed in MDcK cells was more related to the presence of high percentages of LE cells in peripheral blood. The differences found in the results were possibly associated with the presence of homologous antigens between the MDcK cells and the dog. In addition, the methodology and standardization for the use and interpretation of a reference serum was developed to unify the interpretation criteria in the laboratory.
