The dielectric constant(ϵ)is a critical parameter utilized in the design of polymeric dielectrics for energy storage capacitors,microelectronic devices,and high-voltage ***,agile discovery of polymer dielectrics with desirableϵremains a challenge,especially for high-energy,high-temperature *** aid accelerated polymer dielectrics discovery,we have developed a machine-learning(ML)-based model to instantly and accurately predict the frequency-dependentϵof polymers with the frequency range spanning 15 orders of *** model is trained using a dataset of 1210 experimentally measuredϵvalues at different frequencies,an advanced polymer fingerprinting scheme and the Gaussian process regression algorithm.

Temporally consistent individual differences in behavior, also known as animal personality, can have large impacts on individual fitness. Here, we explore the degree to which individual differences in anti-predator response （or boldness） influence survival rates in groups of snails Chlorostoma funebralis when they encounter a predatory sea star pisaster giganteus. The snail C. funebralis shows consistent individual variation in predator response where some fearful snails actively flee bodies of water occupied by predators whereas bolder snails consistently do not. We show here that bold snails are significantly more likely to survive encounters with a predatory sea star and, somewhat counterintuitively, fearful snails actually suffer higher mortality rates. We also found that smaller snails and those occurring at higher experimental densities experienced higher per capita survival rates. positive effects of prey boldness on survival are not uncommonly reported in the animal personality literature; however, such results are inconsistent with classic animal personality theory borrowed from the optimal foraging literature. The findings herein add to the growing body of evidence that consistent individual differences in behavior can impact predator-prey interactions and that boldness is potentially under positive predator-driven selection in some systems.

Information from the brain travels back and forth along peripheral nerves in the form of electrical impulses generated by neurons and these impulses have repetitive patterns. Schwann cells in peripheral nerves receive molecular signals from axons to coordinate the process of myelination. There is evidence, however,that non-molecular signals play an important role in myelination in the form of patterned electrical impulses generated by neuronal activity. The role of patterned electrical impulses has been investigated in the literature using co-cultures of neurons and myelinating cells. The co-culturing method, however, prevents the uncoupling of the direct effect of patterned electrical impulses on myelinating cells from the indirect effect mediated by neurons. To uncouple these effects and focus on the direct response of Schwann cells,we developed an in vitro model where an electroconductive carbon fiber acts as an artificial axon. The fiber provides only the biophysical characteristics of an axon but does not contribute any molecular *** our "suspended wire model", the carbon fiber is suspended in a liquid media supported by a 3D printed scaffold. patterned electrical impulses are generated by an Arduino 101 microcontroller. In this study, we describe the technology needed to set-up and eventually replicate this model. We also report on our initial in vitro tests where we were able to document the adherence and ensheath of human Schwann cells to the carbon fiber in the presence of patterned electrical impulses(hSCs were purchased from ScienCell Research Laboratories, Carlsbad, CA, USA; ScienCell fulfills the ethic requirements, including donor's consent). This technology will likely make feasible to investigate the response of Schwann cells to patterned electrical impulses in the future.

BACKGROUND Neoadjuvant chemotherapy(NACT)and oesophagectomy is the standard of care for resectable oesophageal *** outcomes following resection have been improving over time while NACT remain largely ***,a recent meta-analysis of randomized control trials did not demonstrate a survival benefit in adding NACT,raising the possibility that improved surgical techniques may be reducing the perceived effectiveness of *** To compare the effect of addition of NACT to a standardized surgery and lymphadenectomy on overall and disease-free survival in patients undergoing curative oesophagectomy for oesophageal *** patient data were analysed from a prospectively maintained surgical survival ***,surgical,and survival outcomes were compared between groups according to treatment and nodal *** The data of 243 consecutive patients were identified.79 patients were given NACT and 162 had surgery *** NACT group were younger,and there was less frequent stage I *** survival was similar between NACT and surgery only groups(5YS:48.7%vs 42.5%;p=0.113),as was diseasefree survival(5YS:40.6%vs 39.9%;p=0.635).There were≥30 nodes removed in 46 patients,andpatients,but were otherwise *** was improved survival in patients with≥30 nodes removed than those withp=0.015),and a better disease-free survival that neared significance(5YS:54.9%vs 36.6%;p=0.078).CONCLUSION NACT did not appear to affect overall or disease-free ***,an overall survival benefit was observed in patients with≥30 lymph nodes removed,and a benefit in disease-free survival which was not significant.

We previously investigated the progesterone metabolite 5β-dihydroprogesterone (5βDHp) in relation to human parturition at term, demonstrating that peripheral venous concentrations decrease in association with the onset of spontaneous labour. In this study our aim was to determine if 5βDHp concentrations were lower in women presenting in spontaneous preterm labour than in controls matched for gestational age. Blood samples were obtained from women presenting in spontaneous preterm labour (n = 20). The diagnosis was made on the presence of regular contractions and cervical effacement and dilatation of at least 3 cms. All women in the preterm labour group delivered before 37 weeks gestation. Blood samples were then obtained from controls, closely matched for gestational age with uncomplicated pregnancies. The preterm labour group was further stratified by cause into three groups, chorioamnionitis (n = 5), abruption (n = 4) and idiopathic (n = 11). Following organic solvent extraction, steroids were separated by HpLC and 5βDHp quantified by radioimmunoassay. Women in the idiopathic preterm labour group were found to have significantly lower circulating concentrations of 5βDHp than controls

AIM： To develop a method of labeling and microdissecting mouse Kupffer cells within an extraordinarily short period of time using laser capture microdissection （LCM）. METHODS： Tissues are complex structures comprised of a heterogeneous population of interconnected cells. LCM offers a method of isolating a single cell type from specific regions of a tissue section. LCM is an essential approach used in conjunction with molecular analysis to study the functional interaction of cells in their native tissue environment. The process of labeling and acquiring cells by LCM prior to mRNA isolation can be elaborate, thereby subjecting the RNA to considerable degradation. Kupffer cell labeling is achieved by injecting India ink intravenously, thus circumventing the need for in vitro staining. The significance of this novel approach was validated using a cholestatic liver injury model. RESULTS： mRNA extracted from the microdissected cell population displayed marked increases in colonystimulating factor-1 receptor and Kupffer cell receptor message expression, which demonstrated Kupffer cell enrichment. Gene expression by Kupffer ceils derived from bile-duct-ligated, versus sham-operated, mice was compared. Microarray analysis revealed a significant （2.5-fold, q value 〈 10） change in 493 genes. Based on this fold-change and a standardized pubMed search, 10 genes were identified that were relevant to the ability of Kupffer cells to suppress liver injury. CONCLUSION; The methodology outlined herein provides an approach to isolating high quality RNA from Kupffer cells, without altering the tissue integrity.
