Intermodal four-wave mixing(FWM)processes have recently attracted significant interest for all-optical signal processing applications thanks to the possibility to control the propagation properties of waves exciting distinct spatial modes of the same *** allows,in principle,to place signals in different spectral regions and satisfy the phase matching condition over considerably larger bandwidths compared to intramodal ***,the demonstrations reported so far have shown a limited bandwidth and suffered from the lack of on-chip components designed for broadband manipulation of different *** demonstrate here a silicon-rich silicon nitride wavelength converter based on Bragg scattering intermodal FWM,which integrates mode conversion,multiplexing and de-multiplexing functionalities *** system enables wavelength conversion between pump waves and a signal located in different telecommunication bands(separated by 60 nm)with a 3 dB bandwidth exceeding 70 nm,which represents,to our knowledge,the widest bandwidth ever achieved in an intermodal FWM-based system.

Overexpression of neurotrophic factors in nigral dopamine neurons is a promising approach to reverse neurodegeneration of the nigrostriatal dopamine system,a hallmark in Parkinson's *** human cerebral dopamine neurotrophic factor(h CDNF)has recently emerged as a strong candidate for Parkinson's disease *** study shows that h CDNF expression in dopamine neurons using the neurotensinpolyplex nanoparticle system reverses 6-hydroxydopamine-induced morphological,biochemical,and behavioral *** independent electron microscopy techniques showed that the neurotensin-polyplex nanoparticles containing the h CDNF gene,ranging in size from 20 to 150 nm,enabled the expression of a secretable h CDNF in *** injection in the substantia nigra compacta on day 21 after the 6-hydroxydopamine lesion resulted in detectable h CDNF in dopamine neurons,whose levels remained constant throughout the study in the substantia nigra compacta and *** with the lesioned group,tyrosine hydroxylase-positive(TH^(+))nigral cell population and TH+fiber density rose in the substantia nigra compacta and striatum after h CDNF *** increase inβIII-tubulin and growth-associated protein 43 phospho-S41(GAP43 p)followed TH^(+)cell recovery,as well as dopamine and its catabolite *** reversal(80%)of drugactivated circling behavior and full recovery of spontaneous motor and non-motor behavior were ***-derived neurotrophic factor recovery in dopamine neurons that also occurred suggests its participation in the neurotrophic *** findings support the potential of nanoparticle-mediated h CDNF gene delivery to develop a disease-modifying treatment against Parkinson's *** Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee of Centro de Investigación y de estudios Avanzados approved our experimental procedures for animal use(authorization No.162-15)on June 9,2019.

Background:The high dependence of intensive ruminant production on soybean meal and the environmental impact of this crop encourage the search for alternative protein-rich *** use of insects seems promising,but the extent of their ruminal protein degradation is largely *** parameter has major influence not only on N utilization efficiency but also on the environmental burden of ruminant *** addition,although assessing ruminal N degradation represents a key first step to examine the potential of new feeds,it is a challenging task due to the lack of a reference *** study was conducted to investigate the potential of 4 insects(Tenebrio molitor,Zophobas morio,Alphitobius diaperinus and Acheta domesticus)as alternative protein sources for ruminants,using 3 methodologies:1)a regression technique based on the in vitro relationship between gas production and ammonia-N concentration;2)a conventional in vitro technique of batch cultures of ruminal microorganisms,based on filtering the incubation residue through sintered glass crucibles;and 3)the in situ nylon bag *** in vitro intestinal digestibility of the non-degraded protein in the rumen was also *** meal was used as a reference ***:Comparison of evaluation methods(regression,in vitro and in situ)did not allow to reliably select a single value of ruminal N degradation for the studied substrates,but all techniques seem to establish a similar ranking,with good correlations between methods,particularly between regression and in situ *** of the methodology,nitrogen from the 4 insects(with contents ranging from 81 to 112 g/kg of dry matter)did not show high ruminal degradation(41–76%),this value being always lower than that of soybean ***,the in vitro intestinal digestibility of non-degraded N was relatively high in all feeds(≥64%).Conclusion:Overall,these results support the potential of the 4 studied insects as alternative feedstu

The management of water consumption in healthcare centres can have positive impacts on both the environmental performance and profitability of health *** tools assist in the decision-making process of managing the operation and maintenance of healthcare *** research aimed to integrate the empirical knowledge of experts in Healthcare engineering and the historical data from 66 healthcare centres in a Fuzzy Cognitive *** outputs of the predictive model included water consumption,water cost,and CO_(2) emissions in healthcare facilities,along with eleven variables to discover the causes and consequences of water consumption in healthcare centres.A healthcare centre with about 12350 users,located in a city that experiences an average of 1100 heating degree days,whose facilities be moderately energy-efficient contributing over 50%with renewable energies is expected to consume 8.4 dam^(3) of water with 32.1 k€of cost,and contribute realising 30.8 ton CO_(2)eq *** use of Fuzzy Cognitive Maps for prediction can provide a high level of effectiveness in identifying the factors that contribute to water consumption and in designing key performance indicators to manage the environmental performance of healthcare *** tool is extremely effective in enhancing the performance of the management division of health systems.

Fisher-Tippet-Gnedenko classical theory shows that the normalized maximum of n iid random variables with distribution F belonging to a very wide class of functions, converges in law to an extremal distribution H, that is determined by the tail of F. extensions of this theory from the iid case to stationary and weak dependent sequences are well known from the work of Leadbetter, Lindgreen and Rootzén. In this paper, we present a very simple class of random processes that runs from iid sequences to non-stationary and strongly dependent processes, and we study the asymptotic behavior of its normalized maximum. More interesting, we show that when the process is strongly dependent, the asymptotic distribution is no longer an extremal one, but a mixture of extremal distributions. We present very simple theoretical and simulated examples of this result. This provides a simple framework to asymptotic approximations of extremes values not covered by classical extremal theory and its well-known extensions.

Investigating the cellular and molecular mechanisms involved in the development of topographically ordered connections in the central nervous system constitutes an important issue in neurobiology because these connections are the base of the central nervous system normal *** dominant model to study the development of topographic maps is the projection from the retinal ganglion cells to the optic tectum/*** expression pattern of eph/ephrin system in opposing gradients both in the retina and the tectum,labels the local addresses on the target and gives specific sensitivities to growth cones according to their topographic origin in the *** rigid precision of normal retinotopic mapping has prompted the chemoaffinity hypothesis,positing axonal targeting to be based on fixed biochemical affinities between fibers and ***,several lines of evidence have shown that the mapping can adjust to experimentally modified targets with flexibility,demonstrating the robustness of the guidance *** we discuss the complex ways the ephs and ephrins interact allowing to understand how the retinotectal mapping is a precise but also a flexible process.

Objective: To study the main clinical and histopathological features of 12 patients with Hodgkin's lymphoma(HL) diagnosed primarily from bone marrow(BM) ***: We included 12 acquired immunodeficiency syndrome(AIDS) patients with HL assisted in the F. J. Mu?iz Infectious Diseases Hospital since January 2002 to December 2013. The diagnosis of HL with primary BM involvement in patients was confirmed by clinical, histopathological, and immunohistochemical ***: All patients presented "B" symptoms and pancytopenia. All of them had stage IV neoplasm disease because of BM infiltration. The median of CD4+ T-cell counts was 114 cells/μL, and mixed cellularity(MC) was the most frequent histopathological subtype of 92% ***: When other causes are excluded, BM biopsy should be performed in AIDS patients with "B" symptoms and pancytopenia to evaluate BM infiltration by atypical lymphocytes.

In this paper, we provide a method based on quantiles to estimate the parameters of a finite mixture of Fréchet distributions, for a large sample of strongly dependent data. This is a situation that appears when dealing with environmental data and there was a real need of such method. We validate our approach by means of estimation and goodness-of-fit testing over simulated data, showing an accurate performance.

In this article we improve a goodness-of-fit test, of the Kolmogorov-Smirnov type, for equally distributed- but not stationary-strongly dependent data. The test is based on the asymptotic behavior of the empirical process, which is much more complex than in the classical case. Applications to simulated data and discussion of the obtained results are provided. This is, to the best of our knowledge, the first result providing a general goodness of fit test for non-weakly dependent data.
