Retinal and optic nerve diseases are degenerative ocular pathologies which lead to irreversible visual loss. Since the advanced therapies availability, cell-based therapies offer a new all-encompassing approach. Advances in the knowledge of neuroprotection, immunomodulation and regenerative properties of mesenchymal stem cells(MSCs) have been obtained by several preclinical studies of various neurodegenerative diseases. It has provided the opportunity to perform the translation of this knowledge to prospective treatment approaches for clinical practice. Since 2008, several first steps projecting new treatment approaches, have been taken regarding the use of cell therapy in patients with neurodegenerative pathologies of optic nerve and retina. Most of the clinical trials using MSCs are in Ⅰ/Ⅱ phase, recruiting patients or ongoing, and they have as main objective the safety assessment of MSCs using various routes of administration. However, it is important to recognize that, there is still a long way to go to reach clinical trials phase Ⅲ-Ⅳ. Hence, it is necessary to continue preclinical and clinical studies to improve this new therapeutic tool. This paper reviews the latest progress of MSCs in human clinical trials for retinal and optic nerve diseases.

BackgroundThe incidence of prostate cancer is increasing worldwide. A significant proportion of patients develop metastatic disease and are initially prescribed androgen deprivation therapy (ADT). However, subsequent sequences of treatments in real-world settings that may improve overall survival remain an area of active *** and methodsData were collected from 384 patients presenting with de novo metastatic prostate cancer from 2011 to 2015 at a tertiary cancer center. Patients were categorized into surviving (n = 232) and deceased (n = 152) groups at the end of 3 years. Modified sequence pattern mining techniques (Generalized Sequential Pattern Mining and Sequential Pattern Discovery using Equivalence Classes) were applied to determine the exact order of the most frequent sets of treatments in each ***, as the initial form of ADT, was uniquely in the surviving group. The sequence of ADT followed by abiraterone and docetaxel was uniquely associated with a higher 3-year overall survival. Orchiectomy followed by fosfestrol was found to have a unique niche among surviving patients with a long duration of response to the initial ADT. Patients who received chemotherapy followed by radiotherapy and those who received radiotherapy followed by chemotherapy were found more frequently in the deceased *** identified unique treatment sequences among surviving and deceased patients at the end of 3 years. Degarelix should be the preferred form of ADT. Patients who received ADT followed by abiraterone and chemotherapy showed better results. Patients requiring palliative radiation and chemotherapy in any sequence were significantly more frequent in the deceased group, identifying the need to offer such patients the most efficacious agents and to target them in clinical trial design.

This research investigates the mechanical and thermal properties of Morus alba combined with polylactic acid in comparison with other natural fibers. The study uses three different fiber and PLA compositions - 20%, 30%, and 40% respectively - to produce composite materials. In addition, another composite with the same fiber volume is treated with a 4% NaOH solution to improve mechanical properties. The composites are processed by twin-screw extrusion, granulation, and injection molding. Tensile strength measurements of raw fibers and NaOH-treated fibers were carried out using a single-fiber tensile test with a gauge length of 40 mm. It was observed that the NaOH surface treatment increases the resistance against tensile loading and exhibited improved properties for raw fiber strands. The diameter of the fibers was measured using optical microscopy. During this research, flexural tests, impact tests, differential scanning calorimetry (DSC), and heat deflection temperature measurements (HDT) were conducted to evaluate the mechanical and thermal properties of the developed composite samples. The results indicate that the mechanical properties of NaOH-treated Morus alba-reinforced polylactic acid outperform both virgin PLA samples and untreated Morus alba samples.

Himalayan leucogranites are important for understanding the tectonic evolution of collision zones in general and the causes of crustal melting in the Himalayan orogen in *** paper aims to understand the melt source and emplacement age of the leucogranites from Sikkim in order to decipher the deep geodynamic processes of the eastern *** U-Pb analysis of the Higher Himalayan Sequence(HHS)metamorphic core reveals a prolonged period of crustal melting between>33 Ma and ca.14 *** and trace element abundances are presented for 27 leucogranites from North Sikkim that are classified into two-mica and tourmaline leucogranite *** are peraluminous in composition,characterized by high SiO2(70.91-74.9 wt.%),Al2O3(13.69-15.82 wt.%),and low MgO(0.13-0.74 wt.%).Elemental abundances suggest that Sikkim Himalayan leucogranites are derived from crustal *** two-mica leucogranites are derived from a metagreywacke source,whereas the tourmaline leucogranites are sourced from metapelitic sources,with inherited zircons indicating an HHS origin for both types.U-Pb zircon geochronology of the two mica leucogranites indicates ages of ca.19-15 Ma,consistent with crustal melting recorded in HHS gneisses from *** from both the two-mica and tourmaline leucogranites yield a crystallization age of ca.15-14 Ma,coeval with movement on the Main Central Thrust and South Tibetan Detachment System which further provides constraints on the timing and mechanism of petrogenesis of leucogranites in the Sikkim Himalayas.

The effect of brake oil on sliding behavior of carbon/carbon(C/C) and carbon/carbon-silicon carbide(C/C-SiC) composites was investigated with the variation of laminate orientation and surface conformity. The partial and low conformity contacts with the normal and parallel orientations of laminates were considered. The normal load was varied from 50 to 90 N in a step of 10 N. The friction and wear behavior was investigated under reciprocating sliding conditions. The results showed that friction coefficient and wear loss of composites with normal orientation of laminates were larger as compared to those of composites with parallel orientation of laminates. C/C composites with normal orientation of laminates yielded the highest value of friction coefficient. Wear loss decreased by a maximum of 78%, and friction coefficient decreased by a maximum of 49% in low conformity contacts as compared to partial conformity contacts. The presence of brake oil reduced the adhesion tendency of compacted wear debris because the formation of friction film was difficult, and thus, friction behavior was affected. The wear debris retention between the contact surfaces due to confined area motion in reciprocating sliding depicted the tribological behavior.
