Two-dimensional materials are widely considered to be highly promising for the development of *** improve the performance of these devices,researchers often employ techniques such as defect ***,pressure is employed as a clean and novel means to manipulate the structural and physical properties of EuSbTe_(3),an emerging two-dimensional *** experimental results demonstrate that the structural phase transformation of EuSbTe_(3)occurs under pressure,with an increase in infrared reflectivity,a band gap closure,and a metallization at *** with X-ray diffraction(XRD)and Raman characterizations,it is evident that the pressure-driven transition from semiconductor Pmmn phase to metallic Cmcm phase causes the disappearance of the charge density ***,at a mild pressure,approximately 2 GPa,the maximum photocurrent of EuSbTe_(3)is three times higher than that at ambient condition,suggesting an untapped potential for various practical applications.

Frequency of IL-10-producing regulatory B cells associated with disease activity in thyroid-associated orbitopathy

AIM： To investigate the association between IL-10-producing regulatory B（B10） cells and the clinical features of thyroid-associated orbitopathy（TAO）. METHODS： A total of 30 patients with TAO were recruited at Zhongshan Ophthalmic Center from May 2015 to December 2015. Peripheral blood mononuclear cells（PBMCs） were separated from blood samples of 30 TAO patients and 16 healthy controls and stimulated with CD40 ligand and CpG for 48h. The frequency of IL-10＋ B cells was examined by flow cytometry and the correlation between the frequency of IL-10＋ B cells and clinical features of TAO was analyzed by SPSS. RESULTS： The frequency of IL-10＋ B cells among CD19＋ B cells in TAO patients was significantly lower than in healthy controls（TAO： 4.66%±1.88% vs healthy control： 6.82%±2.40%, P〈0.01）. The frequency of IL-10＋ B cells showed a positive correlation with disease activity of TAO measured by Clinical Activity Score（CAS）（r=0.50, P〈0.01）, and became higher in TAO patients with family history of Graves＇ disease（GD）（P=0.04）. CONCLUSION： The decrease of the frequency of IL-10＋ B cells in TAO patients indicates the deficiency of B10 cells in TAO, and the positive association with disease activity suggests its important role in TAO inflammation regulation.

Retrograde intrarenal surgery vs miniaturized percutaneous nephrolithotomy to treat lower pole renal stones 1.5-2.5 cm in diameter

AIM To compare the outcomes of retrograde intrarenal surgery(RIRS) and miniaturized percutaneous nephrolithotomy(mini-PCNL) in treating lower pole(LP) renal stones with a diameter of 1.5-2.5 *** A total of 216 patients who underwent mini-PCNL(n = 103) or RIRS n = 113) for LP stones with a diameter of 1.5-2.5 cm were enrolled between December 2015 and April 2017 at the Urology Department of Ningbo Urology and Nephrology *** Significant differences were found in the hospital stay(9.39 ± 4.01 vs 14.08 ± 5.26, P < 0.0001) and hospitalization costs(2624.5 ± 513.36 vs 3255.2 ± 976.5, P < 0.0001) between the RIRS and mini-PCNL groups. The mean operation time was not significantly different between the RIRS group(56.48 ± 24.77) and the mini-PCNL group(60.04 ± 30.38, P = 0.345). The stone-free rates at the first postoperative day(RIRS vs mini-PCNL: 90.2% vs 93.2%, P = 0.822) and the second month postoperatively(RIRS vs mini-PCNL: 93.8% vs 95.1%, P = 0.986) were not significantly *** RIRS and mini-PCNL are both safe and effective methods for treating LP stones with a diameter of 1.5-2.5 cm. RIRS can be considered as an alternative to PCNL for the treatment for LP stones of 1.5-2.5 cm.

Low-dose Simvastatin Increases Skeletal Muscle Sensitivity to Caffeine and Halothane

Objective To determine whether the myotoxic side effects of statin simvastatin affect skeletal muscle's sensitivity to caffeine and halothane. Methods Primary cultured neonate rat skeletal myotubes were treated with 0.01-5.0 μmol/L simvastatin for 48 hours. MTT was used to evaluate cellular viability. The gross morphology and microstructure of the myotubes were observed with a light and electron microscope, respectively. The intracellular calcium concentrations([Ca^(2+)]i) at rest and in response to caffeine and halothane were investigated by fluorescence calcium imaging. Data were analyzed by analysis of variance(ANOVA) test. Results Simvastatin(0.01-5.0 μmol/L) decreased myotube viability, changed their morphological features and microstructure, and increased the resting [Ca^(2+)]i in a dose-dependent manner. Simvastatin did not change myotube's sensitivity to low doses of caffeine(0.625-2.5 mmol/L) or halothane(1.0-5.0 mmol/L). In response to high-dose caffeine(10.0 mmol/L, 20.0 mmol/L) and halothane(20.0 mmol/L, 40.0 mmol/L), myotubes treated with 0.01 μmol/L simvastatin showed a significant increase in sensitivity, but those treated with 1.0 μmol/L and 5.0 μmol/L simvastatin showed a significant decrease. The sarcoplasmic reticulum Ca^(2+) storage peaked in the myotubes treated with 0.01 μmol/L simvastatin, but it decreased when cells were treated with higher doses of simvastatin(0.1-5.0 μmol/L).Conclusions The myotoxic side effect of simvastatin was found to change the sensitivity of myotubes in response to high-dose caffeine and halothane. When dose was low, sensitivity increased mainly because of increased Ca^(2+) content in the sarcoplasmic reticulum, which might explain why some individuals with statin-induced myotoxic symptoms may show positive caffeine-halothane contracture test results. However, when the dose was high and the damage to the myotubes was severer, sensitivity was lower. It is here supposed that the damage itself might put individuals with

Manganese enhances the expression of the manganese superoxide dismutase in cultured primary chick embryonic myocardial cells

In the present study, the effect of manganese（Mn） on antioxidant status and the expression of the manganese superoxide dismutase（MnSOD） gene in cultured primary myocardial cells collected from the chick embryos was investigated. The hypothesis that Mn supplementation would enhance the expression of MnSOD in cultured primary myocardial cells of chick embryos was tested. Eggs collected from Mn-depleted Arbor Acres laying breeder hens were incubated for 10 days and then myocardial cells were isolated and cultivated for 8 days. The embryonic myocardial cells on day 6 were treated with Mn in the cell culture medium at different time points when the proportion of cells showing spontaneous contraction was over 95% after the 3-day primary culture. A completely randomized design involving a 3 Mn levels（0, 0.5 and 1.0 mmol L^（-1））×3 incubation time points（12, 24 and 48 h） factorial arrangement of treatments（n=6） was used in the current experiment. The results showed that MnSOD activity and m RNA expression level were induced by Mn and increased with incubation time, which supported the hypothesis that Mn would enhance the expression of the MnSOD gene, and thus might protect myocardial cells from oxidative stress during the chick embryonic development.

Apparent diffusion coefficient in normal and abnormal pattern of intervertebral lumbar discs: initial experience

The aim of the present study was to compare the relationship of morphologically defined non-bulging/herni-ated, bulging and herniated intervertebral lumbar discs with quantitative apparent diffusion coefficient （ADC）. Thirty-two healthy volunteers and 28 patients with back pain or sciatica were examined by MRI. All intervertebral lumbar discs from L1 to S1 were classified according to morphological abnormality and degenerated grades. The ADC values of nucleus pulposus （NP） were measured and recorded. The significant differences about mean ADC values of NP were found between non-bulging/herniated discs and bulging discs as well as herniated discs （P 0.05）, whereas there were no significant differences in ADC values between bulging and herniated discs （P 0.05）. Moreover, statistically significant relationship was found in the mean ADC values of NP between ＂non-bulging/herniated and non-degenerated discs＂ and ＂non-bulging/herniated degenerated discs＂ as well as herniated discs （P 0.05）. Linear regression analysis between ADC value and disc level revealed an inverse correlation （r = -0.18）. The ADC map of the NP is a potentially useful tool for the quantitative assessment of componential and molecular alterations accompanied with lumbar disc abnormalities.

Shallow gas is a potential risk in deep-water drilling that must not be ignored,as it may cause major safety problems,such as well kicks and ***,the pre-drilling prediction of shallow gas is *** this reason,this paper conducted deep-water shallow gas acoustic simulation experiments based on the characteristics of deep-water shallow soil properties and the theory of sound wave speed *** results indicate that the propagation speed of sound waves in shallow gas increases with an in-crease in pressure and decreases with increasing *** and sound wave speed are basically functions of the power *** with the theory of sound wave propagation in a saturated medium,this paper establishes a multivariate functional relationship between sound wave speed and formation pressure and *** numerical simulation method is adopted to simulate shal-low gas eruptions under different pressure *** gas pressure coefficients that fall within the ranges of 1.0-1.1,1.1-1.2,and exceeding 1.2 are defined as low-,medium-,and high-risk,respectively,based on actual *** risk assessment me-thod has been successfully applied to more than 20 deep-water wells in the South China Sea,with a prediction accuracy of over 90%.

Comparative chloroplast genome analysis of medicinally important Veratrum(Melanthiaceae)in China:Insights into genomic characterization and phylogenetic relationships

Members of Veratrum are perennial herbs widely used in traditional Chinese medicine to induce vomiting,resolve blood stasis and relieve ***,the intrageneric classification and phylogenetic relationships within Veratrum have long been controversial due to the complexity of morphological variations and lack of high-resolution molecular *** this study,we reevaluated the infrageneric relationships with the genus Veratrum using complete chloroplast genome sequence ***,the complete cp genomes of ten species of Veratrum were newly sequenced and *** complete cp genomes of ten species of Veratrum had the typical quadripartite structure,ranging from 151,597 bp to 153,711 bp in size and comprising a total of 135 *** structure of Veratrum cp genomes(i.e.,gene order,content,and genome components)was highly similar across *** number of simple sequence repeats(SSRs)ranged from 63 to 7&and of long repeats ranged from 31 to *** highly divergent regions(ndhF,psbC-psbZ,psbK-psbl,rpoB-tmCjGCA,tmK_UUU-tmQ_UUG,tmS_GCU-tmG_UCC,tmT_UGU-tmL_UAA and ycfl)were identified and are potentially useful for the DNA barcoding of *** analysis among 29 taxa based on cp genomes,total genes,protein-coding genes and intergenic regions strongly supported the monophyly of *** circumscription and relationships of the infrageneric taxa of Veratrum were well-presented with great *** results will facilitate the identification,taxonomy,and utilization of Veratrum plants as well as the evolutionary studies of Melanthiaceae.

Dormancy represents a fascinating adaptive strategy for organisms to survive in unforgiving *** a period of dormancy,organisms often exhibit exceptional *** period is typically divided into hibernation and aestivation based on seasonal ***,the mechanisms by which organisms adapt to their environments during dormancy,as well as the potential relationships between different states of dormancy,deserve further ***,we selected Perccottus glenii and Protopterus annectens as the primary subjects to study hibernation and aestivation,*** on histological and transcriptomic analysis of multiple organs,we discovered that dormancy involved a coordinated functional response across *** analyses revealed noteworthy disparities between the two dormant species in their responses to extreme ***,similarities in gene expression patterns pertaining to energy metabolism,neural activity,and biosynthesis were noted during hibernation,suggesting a potential correlation between hibernation and *** further explore the relationship between these two phenomena,we analyzed other dormancy-capable species using data from publicly available *** comparative analysis revealed that most orthologous genes involved in metabolism,cell proliferation,and neural function exhibited consistent expression patterns during dormancy,indicating that the observed similarity between hibernation and aestivation may be attributable to convergent *** conclusion,this study enhances our comprehension of the dormancy phenomenon and offers new insights into the molecular mechanisms underpinning vertebrate dormancy.

Prognostic role of chromogranin A in ：astration-resistant prostate cancer： a meta-analysis

We aimed to investigate the prognostic value of chromogranin A （CgA） in castration-resistant prostate cancer （CRPC）. We conducted a systematic literature search of PubMed, Web of Science, and EMBASE for citations published prior to September 2017 that described CgA and CRPC and performed a standard meta-analysis on survival outcomes. Our meta-analysis included eight eligible studies with 686 patients. The results were as follows： progression-free survival （PFS） was associated with CgA level （hazard ratio [HR] = 2.47, 95% confidence interval [CI]： 1.47-4.14, P = 0.0006）; PFS was relative to CgA change （HR = 9.22, 95% Ch 3.03-28.05, P〈 0.0001）; and overall survival （OS） was relative to CgA level （HR = 1.47, 95% Ch 1.15-1.87, P= 0.002）. When we divided the patients into two groups according to therapy status, the result for OS relative to CgA level was an HR of 1.26 （95% CI： 1.09-1.45, P = 0.001） in the first-line hormonal therapy group, and an HR of 2.33 （95% Ch 1.40-3.89, P = 0.001） in the second-line hormonal therapy or chemotherapy group. This meta-analysis indicated that a high CgA level had a negative influence on OS and PFS in CRPC patients. In addition, CRPC patients with a rising CgA had a shorter PFS. Further studies are needed to verify the prognostic value of CgA in CRPC.
