In this study,a microbial consortium isolated from an activated sludge tank of a conventional wastewater treatment plant was immobilized using sodium alginate(SA)as a support material for contaminant biodegradation in wastewater.A volume of 500 mL of activated sludge was immobilized in the SA beads(with a mass concentration of 25 g/L).The resulting SA beads were characterized,introduced into a fluidized bed reactor,fed with 1000 mL of the sample,and characterized again after the treatment *** SA-immobilized microorganisms were tested first for degradation of organic matter(expressed as chemical oxygen demand)and total phosphorous in domestic wastewater,achieving removal efficiencies of 71%and 93%,respectively,after 12 ***,the SA-immobilized microorganisms were tested for degradation of a basic blue 9(BB9)textile dye in a condition that simulated textile *** efficiency of the BB9 degradation was found to be as high as 99.5%after 2 *** to these results,SA-immobilized microorganisms were found to be an environmentally friendly and cost-effective alternative for treatment of municipal and industrial wastewater effluents.

Mitochondria are the center of energy production in eukaryotic cells and are crucial for several cellular processes. Dysfunctional mitochondria have been associated with cancer progression. Mitochondria contain their own circular DNA (mtDNA), which codes for 13 proteins, 2rRNA, 22tRNA and non-coding RNAs. Recent evidence showed the presence of 5-methylcytosine and 5-hydroximethylcytosine in mtDNA suggesting that the level of gene expression could be modulated like a nuclear DNA by direct epigenetic modifications. Mitoepigenetics is a bidirectional phenomenon in the epigenetic regulation of mitochondrial genes encoded in both the nucleus and the mitochondrion. This process is affected by SAM-mediated methylation and hydroxymethylation of mtDNA and by nuclear chromatin modulators from mitochondria, such as Acetyl-CoA and NAD+. There is some information about physiological and pathological methylated profiles, but information is scarce for hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). The aim of this review is to summarize the mitoepigenetic knowledge in HCC already reported so far, through a keywords search in Medline. In addition, the deregulation of energy intermediaries needed for the mitoepigenetic regulation is described. As this is a new area of study, a rigorous analysis and careful interpretation and integration of results are needed.

Frosts are one of the atmospheric phenomena with one of the larger negative effects on the agricultural sector in the southern region of Brazil,therefore,an earlier forecast can minimize their *** the present work,artificial neural networks(ANNs)techniques were applied in order to improve the predicting capabilities of frost events in southern *** the study,two multilayer perceptron(MLP)ANNs were built,one with ADAM optimizer and the other with *** input parameters MLP-ANNs were numerical predictions of the eta *** ANNs were trained using four years(2012-2015),while validation and testing were performed using 2016 and 2017,*** episode of frost that occurred on May 21st,2018,related to an intense cold air mass,was also utilized to evaluate the performance of the *** best configurations(topologies and hyperparameters)of the ANNs were identified through experiments,using the highest accuracy obtained during the validation period as a *** results of the ANNs with ADAM and SGD optimizers were compared with the predictions of the eta *** the case study,an additional comparison against the operational frost index(IG)from the National Institute for Space Research(INPe)was also *** performance of both ANNs(properly configured)with ADAM and SGD optimizers are comparable one to the *** both are significantly better compared to the eta *** ANNs were able to drastically reduce the underestimation trends of frost events caused by the warm bias of the eta *** ANNs also indicated more satisfactory performances when compared to the INPe *** general,the ANNs were able to identify deficiencies in eta predictions,and consequently improve their *** this sense,the use of ANNs to predict frost events can be a very useful tool in an operational environment.

In Arabidopsis seeds, germination is promoted only by phytochromes, principally phytochrome B （phyB） and phytochrome A （phyA）. Despite the abundant information concerning the molecular basis of phyB signaling downstream of PIF1/PIL5, the signaling network inducing germination by phyA is poorly known. Here, we describe the influence of phyA on the transcriptome of Arabidopsis seeds when germination is induced by a far-red （FR） pulse. The expression of 11% of the genome was significantly regulated by phyA. Most of the genes were up-regulated and the changes noted late （i.e. 5 h after a FR pulse）, whereas changes in down-regulated genes were more abundant earlier （i.e. 0.5 h after a FR pulse）. Auxin- and GA-associated elements were overrepresented in the genes that were modified by phyA. A significant number of genes whose expression was affected by phyA had not been previously reported to be dependent on PIL5. Among them, homozygotic mutant seeds of MYB66, a SAUR-like protein, PIN7, and GASA4 showed an impaired promo- tion of germination by phyA. Natural variation at the transcriptional level was found in early signaling and GA metabolic genes, but not in ABA metabolic and expansin genes between Columbia and Landsberg erecta accessions. Although phyA and phyB/PIL5 signaling pathways share some molecular components, our data suggest that phyA signaling is partially independent of PIL5 when germination is promoted by very low fluences of light.

Neoadjuvant chemotherapy with folinic acid,5-fluorouracil,irinotecan and oxaliplatin(FOLFIRINOX)or gemcitabine plus nab-paclitaxel(Gem-nabP)for 4 to 6 months,potentially followed by chemoradiotherapy and an attempt for surgical resection for select patients,represents the multidisciplinary care standard for borderline resectable(BRPC)and locally advanced pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma(LAPC)patients with good performance status(1,2).With neoadjuvant therapy,resection rates average 65%and survival ranges from 22-29 months for BRPC,whereas LAPC patients have resection rates of 15-20%and survival of 16-24 months,respectively(3-5).

Recent work regarding the Layer by Layer （LbL） engineering of poly（lactide-co-glycolide） nanoparticles （PLGA NPs） is reviewed here. The LbL engineering of PLGA NPs is applied as a means of generating advanced drug delivery devices with tailored recognition, protection, cargo and release properties. LbL in combination with covalent chemistry is used to attach PeG and folic acid to control cell uptake and direct it towards cancer cells. LbL coatings composed of chitosan and alginate show low protein interactions and can be used as an alternative to Pegylation. The assembly on top of LbL coatings of lipid layers composed of variable percentages of 1,2-dioleoyl-sn-glycero-3-choline （DOPC） and 1,2-dioleoyl-sn-glycero-3-phospho- L-serine （DOPS） increases NP uptake and directs the NPs towards the endoplasmic reticulum. The antibody anti-TNF-ct is encapsulated forming a complex with alginate that is assembled LbL on top of PLGA NPs. The antibody is released in cell culture following first order kinetics. The release kinetics of encapsulated molecules inside PLGA NPs are studied when the PLGA NPs are coated via LbL with different polyelectrolytes. The intracellular release of encapsulated Doxorubicin is studied in the HepG2 cell line by means of Fluorescence Lifetime Imaging.

In this paper we give a survey about the Roper-Suffridge extension operator and the developments in the theory of univalent mappings in several variables to which it has led. We begin with the basic geometric properties (most of which now have a number of different proofs)and discuss relations with the theory of Loewner chains and generalizations and modifications of the operator, some of which are very recent.

Background:Although guidelines recommend systemic therapy even in patients with limited extrahepatic metastases from hepatocellular carcinoma(HCC),a few recent studies suggested a potential benefit for resection of extrahepatic ***,the benefit of adrenal resection(AR)for adrenal-only metastases(AOM)from HCC was not proved *** is the first study to compare long-term outcomes of AR to those of sorafenib in patients with AOM from ***:The patients with adrenal metastases(AM)from HCC were identified from the electronic records of the institution between January 2002 and December *** who presented AM and other sites of extrahepatic disease were ***,the patients with AOM who received other therapies than AR or sorafenib were ***:A total of 34 patients with AM from HCC were *** of these,22 patients had AOM,6 receiving other treatment than AR or ***,8 patients with AOM underwent AR(AR group),while 8 patients were treated with sorafenib(SOR group).The baseline characteristics of the two groups were not significantly different in terms of age,sex,number and size of the primary tumor,timing of AM diagnosis,child-Pugh and eCOG *** a median follow-up of 15.5 months,in the AR group,the 1-,3-,and 5-year overall survival rates(85.7%,42.9%,and 0%,respectively)were significantly higher than those achieved in the SOR group(62.5%,0%and 0%at 1-,3-and 5-year,respectively)(P=0.009).The median progression-free survival after AR(14 months)was significantly longer than that after sorafenib therapy(6 months,P=0.002).Conclusions:In patients with AOM from HCC,AR was associated with significantly higher overall and progression-free survival rates than systemic therapy with *** results could represent a starting-point for future phase II/III clinical trials.

Yam hairiness is a complex concept, which generally cannot be completely defined by a single figure. Hairiness can be considered as the fiber ends and loops standing out from the main compact yarn body. Uster hairiness system characterizes the hairiness by H value, i.e. the mean value of the total length of all hairs within one centimeter of yarn. The raw data HI are in fact realization of spatial process （hairiness spatial process -- HSP） and can be used for more complex evaluation of hairiness characteristics in the space and frequency domain. The main aim of this contribution is description of some tools for spatial characterization of yarn hairiness. The simple methods for complex characterization of lISP statistical behavior （stationarity, independence, linearity etc. ） are presented. The techniques based on the embedding dimension and correlation integral or long-range dependences evaluation are discussed. The selected methods are core of HYARN program in MATLAB. Application of this program for deeper characterization of artificial data and cotton type yam are shown.

Background Heat stress has severe negative consequences on performance and health of pigs,leading to significant economic *** objective of this study was to investigate the effects of supplemental vitamin e and a botanical extract in feed or drinking water on growth performance,intestinal health,and oxidative and immune status in grow-ing pigs housed under heat stress *** Duplicate experiments were conducted,each using 64 crossbred pigs with an initial body weight of 50.7±3.8 and 43.9±3.6 kg and age of 13-week and 12-week,***(n=128)were housed individually and assigned within weight blocks and sex to a 2×4 factorial arrangement consisting of 2 environments(thermo-neutral(21.2℃)or heat-stressed(30.9℃))and 4 supplementation treatments(control diet;control+100 IU/L of D-α-tocopherol in water;control+200 IU/kg of DL-α-tocopheryl-acetate in feed;or control+400 mg/kg of a botanical extract in feed).Results Heat stress for 28 d reduced(P≤0.001)final body weight,average daily gain,and average daily feed intake(-7.4 kg,-26.7%,and-25.4%,respectively)but no effects of supplementation were detected(P>0.05).Serum vitamin e increased(Pe supplementation in water and in feed(1.64 vs.3.59 and 1.64 vs.3.24),but not for the botanical extract(1.64 vs.1.67 mg/kg)and was greater when supplemented in water ***(P=0.002).Liver vitamin e increased(Pe supplementations in water(3.9 vs.31.8)and feed(3.9 vs.18.0),but not with the botanical extract(3.9 vs.4.9 mg/kg).Serum malondialdehyde was reduced with heat stress on d 2,but increased on d 28(interaction,Peater(Pementation compared to *** proliferation was reduced(P=0.037)in the jejunum under heat stress,but increased in the ileum when vitamin e was supplemented in feed and water under heat stress(interaction,P=0.04).Tumor necrosis factor-αin jejunum and ileum mucosa decreased by heat stress(Pe
