Nonlinear frequency conversion is one of the most fundamental processes in nonlinear *** has a wide range of applications in our daily lives,including novel light sources,sensing,and information *** is usually assumed that nonlinear frequency conversion requires large crystals that gradually accumulate a strong ***,the large size of nonlinear crystals is not compatible with the miniaturisation of modern photonic and optoelectronic ***,shrinking the nonlinear structures down to the nanoscale,while keeping favourable conversion efficiencies,is of great importance for future photonics *** the last decade,researchers have studied the strategies for enhancing the nonlinear efficiencies at the nanoscale,*** employing different nonlinear materials,resonant couplings and hybridization *** this paper,we provide a compact review of the nanomaterials-based efforts,ranging from metal to dielectric and semiconductor nanostructures,including their relevant nanofabrication techniques.

胰腺疾病的诊治在临床上一直是一个难点。在过去的几年中我们见证了放射学和核医学成像的技术进步。考虑到这一点,我们尝试描述超声内镜(EUS)在胰腺癌(PC)诊断及分期的过程中新的角色。到目前为止对于PC最准确的成像技术是对比增强计算机断层扫描(CT)和EUS。后者在检测微小病灶及评估肿瘤大小和淋巴结情况时具有最高的精度,但对于一个可疑的胰腺病变的患者而言,螺旋CT或最新的磁共振成像(Mri)仍是首要的选择。如在CT、Mri扫描为阴性结果而临床上高度怀疑PC,或是CT/Mri扫描后可疑病变需细胞组织学确认时,可应用EUS。相信在不久的将来用于诊断和治疗胰腺疾病的EUS将有更大的发展空间,并且病理结果将为其提供最好的应用证据。

Chemical Sensitivity of Luminescent Epitaxial Surface inP Quantum Dots

Surface inP quantum dots grown by gas source molecular beam epitaxy on in0.48ga0.52P buffer layer lattice matched to gaAs substrate shows a broad-band near-infrared photoluminescence ranging from 750 to 865 nm dependent on their dimensions. A reversible luminescence intensity enhancement has been observed when the quantum dots were exposed to vapours of different chemical solvents with the highest sensitivity for alcohol (methanol and ethanol) vapours. The luminescent behaviour is dependent on the solvent type and concentration. The peak energy and band shape of the luminescence are not affected by the solvent vapour.

Comparison between open and laparoscopic reversal of Hartmann’s procedure for diverticulitis

AiM: To compare the open and laparoscopic Hartmann’s reversal in patients first treated for complicated ***: Forty-six consecutive patients with diverticular disease were included in this retrospective,singlecenter study of a prospectively maintained colorectal surgery *** patients underwent conventional Hartmann’s procedures for acute complicated *** indications for Hartmann’s procedures were *** underwent open(OHr) or laparoscopic Hartmann’s reversal(LHr) between 2000 and 2010,and received the same pre-and post-operative protocols of *** variables,length of stay,short-(at 1 mo) and long-term(at 1 and 3 years) postoperative complications,and surgery-related costs were compared between ***: The OHr group consisted of 18 patients(13 males,mean age ± SD,61.4 ± 12.8 years),and the LHr group comprised 28 patients(16 males,mean age 54.9 ± 14.4 years).The mean operative time and the estimated blood loss were higher in the OHr group(235.8 ± 43.6 min vs 171.1 ± 27.4 min;and 301.1 ± 54.6 mL vs 225 ± 38.6 mL respectively,P = 0.001).Bowel function returned in an average of 4.3 ± 1.7 d in the OHr group,and 3 ± 1.3 d in the LHr group(P = 0.01).The length of hospital stay was significantly longer in the OHr group(11.2 ± 5.3 d vs 6.7 ± 1.9 d,P ication rate was 33.3% in the OHr(6 wound infections) and 3.6% in the LHr group(1 hemorrhage)(P = 0.004).At 12 mo,the complication rate remained significantly higher in the OHr group(27.8% vs 10.7%,P = 0.03).The anastomotic leak and mortality rates were *** 3 years,no patient required re-intervention for surgical *** OHr procedure had significantly higher costs(+56%) compared to the LHr procedure,when combining the surgery-related costs and the length of hospital ***: LHr appears to be a safe and feasible procedure that is associated with reduced hospitality stays,complication rates,and costs compared to OH

Target Therapy in Platinum-refractory/resistant Ovarian Cancer:From Preclinical Findings to Current Clinical Practice

Epithelial ovarian cancer (EOC) is the sixth most common malignancy in women. Ovarian tumors consist of several clinical and pathological entities that share an anatomic site. The gold standard treatment, both in front-line and in adjuvant setting, is represented by carboplatin/paclitaxel combination. Conversely, the second-line treatment is not well defined. The response to platinum is the major prognostic factor for survival. in this review we discuss the current views on platinum-refractory/resistant patient treatment only, which includes patients progressing or relapsing within 6 months from the last platinum-based course. Concerning this subgroup, the activity of several conventional drugs was confirmed in different trials without a significant impact in terms of overall survival. in the last years particular emphasis was given to targeted anti-angiogenetic therapy which produced a survival improvement with an acceptable toxicity profile. New “ad hoc” approaches, with a major attention to outcome-predictive factors, are eagerly awaited.

Metabolic phenotyping of mouse mutants in the german Mouse Clinic

The german Mouse Clinic was established as a phenotyping center to provide the scientific community with systematic standardized phenotyping of mouse models from various genetic *** found metabolic phenotypes in nine out of 20 mutant lines screened in a primary *** on these findings,the mutants were analyzed in secondary and tertiary *** of a sample mutant line,isolated from the ENU-screen at the National research Center for Environment and Health in Munich,were found to have lower body weight,consume less food,but have higher ratios of metabolized energy per unit body weight compared with their wild-type *** metabolic rate and heat production were simultaneously increased by 16–18%,whereas body fat content was reduced by 11–16%.The combination of various parameters of energy consumption,expenditure and energy storage illustrate the metabolic demands of the sample mutant mouse line and demonstrate the utility of the powerful phenotyping tool used at the german Mouse Clinic.
