Strain development along radial direction was continuously determined by D-200 linear Variable Differential Transformers (l.V.D.T). When a wood specimen was put into water and begin to swell from absolute dry moisture content to the maximum. Experiment results show that the differences of swelling with soaking time between untreated and treated wood specimens due to uptaking water. It would also give an indication to the effectiveness of various chemicals on the dimensional stability of modified wood. ASE of modified wood samples with SA-EP, EP and SA were found to be better than MA-AgE. SA-EP had got the best effetivencss on dimensional stability in reducing the swelling.

A series of azobenzene containing side-on liquid crystalline ABA triblock copolymers were investigated. This triblock series possesses the same central liquid crystal block B and various lengths of the amorphous block A. Transmission electron microscopy （TEM）, small angle X-rays and neutron scattering （SAXS and SANS） were used to study their morphologies. After annealing the samples over weeks at a temperature within the nematic temperature range of block B, different morphologies （disordered, lamellar, perforated layer and hexagonal cylinder） were observed by TEM. The alignment behavior of these azo triblock copolymers in the magnetic field for artificial muscle application, as well as the phase period and the order-disorder transition （ODT） were studied in situ by SANS.

Peripheral nerve injuries induce a severe motor and sensory deficit. Since the availability of autologous nerve transplants for nerve repair is very limited, alternative treatment strategies are sought, including the use of tubular nerve guidance conduits(tNgCs). However, the use of tNgCs results in poor functional recovery and central necrosis of the regenerating tissue, which limits their application to short nerve lesion defects(typically shorter than 3 cm). given the importance of vascularization in nerve regeneration, we hypothesized that enabling the growth of blood vessels from the surrounding tissue into the regenerating nerve within the tNgC would help eliminate necrotic processes and lead to improved regeneration. In this study, we reported the application of macroscopic holes into the tubular walls of silk-based tNgCs and compared the various features of these improved silk^(+) tNgCs with the tubes without holes(silk^(–) tNgCs) and autologous nerve transplants in an 8-mm sciatic nerve defect in rats. Using a combination of micro-computed tomography and histological analyses, we were able to prove that the use of silk^(+) tNgCs induced the growth of blood vessels from the adjacent tissue to the intraluminal neovascular formation. A significantly higher number of blood vessels in the silk^(+) group was found compared with autologous nerve transplants and silk^(–), accompanied by improved axon regeneration at the distal coaptation point compared with the silk^(–) tNgCs at 7 weeks postoperatively. In the 15-mm(critical size) sciatic nerve defect model, we again observed a distinct ingrowth of blood vessels through the tubular walls of silk^(+) tNgCs, but without improved functional recovery at 12 weeks postoperatively. Our data proves that macroporous tNgCs increase the vascular supply of regenerating nerves and facilitate improved axonal regeneration in a short-defect model but not in a critical-size defect model. The atomic level structures of fcc/bcc interfaces in an Fe-9Ni alloy have been examined by means of HREM. It has been found that the orientation of γ prime /α interface had great effects on its atomic structure. These interfaces with different orientations may be composed of only structural ledges, structural ledges with misfit dislocations, superledges with misfit dislocations or only misfit dislocations. A structural model of growth ledge was suggested. The terrace of growth ledge was composed of structural ledges or misfit dislocations. The atomic structure of the riser of growth ledge was the same as that of the side facet of γ prime lath, which is composed of superledges with misfit dislocations.

The potential of using a hypoeutectic, instead of eutectic, Sn-Zn alloy as a lead-free solder has been discussed. The nonequilibrium melting behaviors of a series of Sn-Zn alloys were examined by differential thermal analysis. It was found that at a heating rate of 5℃/min, *** exhibited no melting range. Dipping and spreading tests were carried out to characterize the wettability of Sn-Zn alloys on Cu. Both tests exhibited that Sn-6.5Zn has significantly better wettability on Cu than Sn-9Zn. The reaction layers formed during the spreading tests were examined. When the Zn concentration fell between 2.5wt%-9wt%, two reaction layers were formed at the interface, a thick and flat Cu5Zn8 adjacent to Cu and a thin and irreg.l.r Cu-Zn-Sn layer adjacent to the alloy. Only a Cu0Sn5 layer was formed when the Zn concentration decreased to 0.5wt%. The total thickness of the reaction layer（s） between the alloy and Cu was found to increase linearly with the Zn concentration.

The identification of jets originating from quarks and gluons,often referred to as quark/gluon tagging,plays an important role in various analyses performed at the large Hadron Collider,as Standard Model measurements and searches for new particles decaying to quarks often rely on suppressing a large gluon-induced *** paper describes the measurement of the efficiencies of quark/gluon taggers developed within the ATlAS Collaboration,using √s=13 TeV proton–proton collision data with an integrated luminosity of 140 fb^(-1) collected by the ATlAS *** taggers with high performances in rejecting jets from gluon over jets from quarks are studied:one tagger is based on requirements on the number of inner-detector tracks associated with the jet,and the other combines several jet substructure observables using a boosted decision tree.A method is established to determine the quark/gluon fraction in data,by using quark/gluon-enriched subsamples defined by the jet *** in tagging efficiency between data and simulation are provided for jets with transverse momentum between 500 geV and 2 TeV and for multiple tagger working points.

The morphological changing trend of the Yangtze Estuary, the largest estuary of Asia, has become a focus of research in recent years. Based on a long series of topographic data from 1950 to 2015, this paper studied the erosion-deposition pattern of the entire Yangtze Estuary. An alternation between erosion and deposition was found during the past 65 years, which was in correspondence to the alternation between flood and dry periods identified by multi-year average duration days of high-level water flow (defined as discharge ≥ 60,000 m3/s, namely, D≥60,000) from the Yangtze River Basin. A quantitative relationship was further developed between the erosional/depositional rate of the Yangtze Estuary and the interpreting variables of yearly water discharge, D≥60,000 and yearly river sediment load, with contributing rates of 1%, 59% and 40%, respectively. Mechanism behind the alternate erosion and deposition pattern was analyzed by examining residual water surface slope and the corresponding capacity of sediment transport in flood and dry periods. In flood periods, a larger discharge results in steeper slope of residual water level which permits a greater capacity of sediment transport. Therefore, more bed materials can be washed to the sea, leading to erosion of the estuary. In contrast, flatter slope of residual water level occurs in dry periods, and deposition dominates the estuarine area due to the decreased capacity of sediment transport and the increased backwater effect of flood-tide. Coastal dynamics and estuarine engineering projects alter the local morphological changes, but slightly affect the total erosional/depositional rate of the whole estuarine region. Heavy sedimentation within the Yangtze Estuary after the impoundment of the Three gorges Dam can be attributed to the reduced occurrence frequency of flood years due to water reg.l.tion by the dam, and larg.l.
