Positive MR and Large Temperature—Field Sensitivity in Manganite Based Heterostructures

Studies on the ZnO/La0.5Pr0.2Sr0.3Mn03 （LPSMO）/SrNb0.002Ti0.99803 （SNTO） heterostructure having varying thickness of p-type LPSMO （100 nm - LP1） and （200 nm - LP2） manganite are carried out. ZnO/LPSMO （n-p） and LPSMO/SNTO （p-n） junctions of both the heterostructures exhibit good rectifying behavior in a wide range of temperature and applied field. Forward and reverse bias characteristics of both the junctions of heterostructures show opposite behavior. The observation of negative magnetoresistance （MR） at 5 K and positive MR at 300 K, in both the heterostructures, has been explained in the context of interface region effects and filling of energy bands of LPSMO manganite. Further, at high temperature, the heterostructures exhibit large temperature （46%K-1） and field （40%T-1） sensitivities. Dependence of transport, magnetotransport, I-V and sensing properties of the heterostructures, on the temperature, field and film thicknesses have been discussed in this communication.

To the Editor： The increased rate of leukemia in several Iraqi cities has been linked to exposure to depleted uranium, which was used during the consequent wars in lraq from 1990 to 2010.11-41 Here, we investigated leukemia occurrence in the Sulaymaniyah governorate （Sg）, which has been exposed to wars and crises at the same level as the rest of Iraq.151 To the best of our knowledge, this study is the first population-based study on leukemia in Sg.

Fatigue cracking behavior from a notch was investigated at room temperature for ***-3.5Mo-1.5Zr- 0.3Si （TClI） alloys with four different microstructures obtained at different cooling rates from the β transus temperature. It was found that the alloy with lamellar structures consisting of α/β lamellae or acicular α＇ martensite laths had a higher fatigue crack initiation threshold from the notch, while the bimodal structure with coarse a grain had a lower fatigue cracking resistance. The alloy with α/β lamellar structure showed a higher fatigue crack growth resistance. The length scales of the microstructures were characterized to correlate with fatigue cracking behavior. Fatigue cracking mechanism related to microstructures was discussed.

Possible mechanisms of solar-climatic connections, which may be of importance as over short and long time intervals, are discussed. The variations of energetic balance of Earth's climatic system for the last fifty years are estimated. It is ascertained that the disbalance between the flux of solar energy that comes to the Earth and radiates to space is of 0.1% for the last ten years. The suggested mechanism makes it possible to explain not only the observed variation of the enthalpy of the Earth's climatic system for the period 1910-1980, but also the climate anomalies during last thousand years: the climate optimum in 12 century, and"small glacial period" in 16-17 centuries.

Multi- and unidirectional impact forgings were successfully applied to a （gW94） Mg-RE alloy. The microstructure and texture evolution were investigated systematically. The obtained results indicated that during unidirectional impact forging, a bimodal chain deform microstructure was sustained till last forging pass, whereas { 10-12} extension twins-assisted continuous dynamic recrystallization took place during the multidirectional impact forging （MDIF）. The coalescence and intersection of {10-12} extension twins during MDIF efficiently refined the original coarse grains and led to an almost recrystallized homogeneous microstructure. The texture analysis demonstrated that unidirectional impact forging yielded out the strong basal texture; however, MDIF resulted in non-basal texture, which was attributed to the cooperative effects of continuous DRX, twinning, and MDIF itself during the deformation process.

In this paper, a finite element model was developed for a turbine blade with thermal barrier coatings to investigate its failure behavior under cyclic thermal loading. Based on temperature and stress fields obtained from finite element simulations, dangerous regions in ceramic coating were determined in terms of the maximum principal stress criterion. The results show that damage preferentially occurs in the chamfer and rabbet of a turbine blade with thermal barrier coatings and its thermal fatigue life decreases with the increase of thermal stress induced by high service temperature.
