Th.rmal profile modification of an active material in a laser amplifier via optical pumping results in a ch.nge in th. material’s refractive index,and causes th.rmal expansion and stress,eventually leading to spatial ph.se aberrations,or even permanent material *** th.s purpose,knowledge of th. 3D spatio-temporal th.rmal profile,wh.ch.can currently only be retrieved via numerical simulations,is critical for joule-class laser amplifiers to reveal potentially dangerous th.rmal features with.n th. pumped active *** th.s investigation,a detailed,spatio-temporal numerical simulation was constructed and tested for accuracy against surface th.rmal measurements of various endpumped Yb^3+-doped laser-active *** measurements and simulations sh.w an excellent agreement and th. model was successfully applied to a joule-class Yb3+-based amplifier currently operating in th. POLARIS laser system at th. Friedrich.Sch.ller-University and h.lmh.ltz-Institute Jena in Germany.

In th.s work,lith.um(Li)-aluminum(Al)layered double h.droxide(LDh.films modified by 4-amino-2-((h.drazine meth.lene)amino)-4-oxobutanoic acid(denoted as AOA acid)and/or 1h.1h.2h.2h.perfluorooctyltrieth.xysilane were prepared on 6N01 Al alloy by a facile,in-situ growth.meth.d with.enh.nced h.droph.bicity,anti-biofouling and anti-corrosion *** preparation is low energy consumptive and environment friendly,relying on self-assembly at ambient *** structure,molecular weigh. and functional groups of th. synth.sized AOA acid were ch.racterized by NMR spectrometer,ESI-MS spectrometer and Fourier transform infrared(FT-IR)*** th. compositions,structure and morph.logy of th. films were ch.racterized by Fourier transform infrared(FT-IR)spectroscopy,glancing-angle X-ray diffraction(GA-XRD),X-ray ph.toelectron spectroscopy(XPS),field emission scanning electron microscopy(FE-SEM)and energy-dispersive x-ray spectrum(EDS).Water contact angle measurements(CA)and atomic force microscopy(AFM)ch.racterization sh.w th.t th. films possess a micro/nanostructure with.an improved *** test,neutral salt tests(NSS)and electroch.mical impedance spectroscopy(EIS)conducted in 3.5 wt.%NaCl solutions demonstrate th. improved corrosion resistance of th. films over bare Al ***,th. films also possess an excellent anti-bacterial property toEsch.rich.a coli,Bacillus subtilis and sulfate-reducing bacteria.

Studies are undertaken to ch.racterize th. uranium and th.rium minerals of south.east Madagascar. Seven selected uranoth.rianite bearing pyroxenites samples from old abandoned uranium quarries in Tranomaro, south.Amboasary, Madagascar (46°28'00"E, 24°36'00"S) h.ve been collected. To determine th. mineral micro-structure, th.y were investigated for qualitative identification of crystalline compounds by using X-ray powder diffraction analytical meth.d (XRD). Results sh.wed th.t th. uranium and th.rium compounds, as minor elements, were present in various crystalline structures. Th.rium, as th.rianite, is present in a simple Th.2 cubic crystalline system, wh.reas th. uranium component of th. Tranomaro uranoth.rianite samples is oxide-based and is a mixture of complex oxidation states and crys-talline systems. Generally called uraninite, its oxide compounds are present in more th.n eigh. ph.ses.

AIM： To determine th. effect of Prepacol, a combination of sodium ph.sph.te and bisacodyl, on transit and quality of capsule endoscopy （CE）. METh.DS： Fivety two consecutive patients were included in th.s prospective study. CE was performed following a 12 h.fasting period. Twenty six patients were randomized for additional preparation with.Prepacol. Th. quality of CE was assessed separately for th. proximal and th. distal small bowel by 3 experienced endoscopists on th. basis of a graduation wh.ch.was initially developed with.20 previous CE. RESULTS： Preparation with.Prepacol accelerated small bowel transit time （262 ± 55 rain vs 287 ± 97 min）, but h.d no effect on th. quality of CE. Visibility was significantly reduced in th. distal compared to th. proximal small bowel. CONCLUSION： Th. significantly reduced visibility of CE in th. distal small bowel allocates th. need for a good preparation. Since Prepacol h.s no beneficial effect on CE th. modality of preparation and th. ideal time of application remains unclear. Furth.r standardized examinations are necessary to identify sufficient preparation procedures and to determine th. impact of th. volume of th. preparation solution.

Th. effects of adrenalectomy and corticosterone supplementation on th. neurotoxicity of trimeth.ltin (TMT) were tested. CD-1 mice with.or with.ut adrenalectomy were injected with.TMT at a dose of 3.0mg/kg body wt. At 48h.post-TMT administration, th. animals were killed for path.logical examination. It was found th.t th. adrenalectomized animals developed even more severe lesions in th. h.ppocampal formation (fascia dentata granule cells) th.n th. intact animals. Wh.n animals were given a supplement of corticosterone pellets at doses of 0.15, 1.5, and 7.5mg, th.re was a reduction of lesion development. Total alleviation of path.logy was seen at th. two h.gh.r doses of supplementation. Our present investigation strongly indicates th.t th.re may be a close and important interrelationsh.p between TMT-induced neurotoxicity and adrenal function. 1989 Academic Press, Inc.
