Radar Absorbing Materials(RAM)are a class of composites that can attenuate incident electromagnetic waves to avoid radar *** carbon allotropes that have the potential to be used as RAM are either carbon nano-tubes(CNTs),graphene,carbon black(CB)and ultimately,sustainable porous carbon(SPC).Here,black wattle bark waste(following tannin extraction)was used as a sustainable source to produce SPC made from biomass *** was characterized and used as aﬁller for a silicone rubber matrix to produce aﬂexible *** elec-tromagnetic performance of this composite was compared with composites made with commercial CB and CNT through reﬂection loss(RL),where-10 dB is equivalent to 90%of *** composites were evaluated in single-layer,double-layer,and as radar absorbing structures(RAS)with the aim of improving their effective absorption bandwidth(EAB)performances and a reduction in *** CNT composite presented a RL of-26.85 dB at 10.89 GHz and an EAB of 2.6 GHz with a 1.9 mm thickness,while the double-layer structures using CNT and SPC provided a RL of-19.74 dB at 10.75 GHz and an EAB of 2.51 ***,the double-layer structures are~42%cheaper than the composite using only CNT since less material is ***,the largest EAB was achieved with a RAS using SPC,reaching~2.8 GHz and a RL of-49.09 dB at 10.4 ***,SPC made of black wattle bark waste can be a competitive,alternative material for use as RAM and RAS since it is cheaper,sustainable,and suitable for daily life uses such as absorbers for anechoic chambers,sensors,and elec-tromagnetic interference shields for electronics,wallets,vehicles,and others.

The Control of Lactobacillus *** Extracellular Compound Produced by Pseudomonas aeruginosa in the Fermentation Process of Fuel Ethanol Industry in Brazil

This work evaluated the effect of secondary bacterial metabolites produced by Pseudomonas sp LV strain in control of Lactobacillus sp. population in the microcosm of the vat during ethanol fermentation. The fraction F4 produced by Pseudomonas aeruginosa was extracted with dichloromethane and fractionating by vacuum liquid chromatography obtained in a methanol phase. The evaluation of antibiotic activity of F4 fraction mixed or not with sulphuric acid and Kamoram?. The antibiotic activity of F4 fraction was determined as well as the fermentation efficiency. Also was determined yeast cell viability, budding formation, the viability of budding cells, and number of populations of Saccharomyces cerevisiae and Lactobacillus sp. The results showed that the F4 fraction had high selective antibiotic activity against Lactobacillus sp. but not for S. cerevisae, and no inhibitory effect was observed in the fermentation process by yeast. Also F4 fraction decreased flocculation and foam formation. The F4 has an antibiotic activity against Lactobacillus sp. and should be used as an alternative to control bacteria contamination and foam and flocculation formation in the fuel ethanol fermentation process. The F4 fraction could reduce the use of antibiotics in the control of Lactobacillus sp. population during the fuel ethanol production.

Bacterial spot caused by Xanthomonas arboricola pv. pruni (Xap) is considered as a major problem in peach orchards. Copper and antibiotics are used to control, and biocontrol should be a new alternative with low environment impact. The objective was evaluated by the antibiotic activity of the metabolite produced by Pseudomonas aeruginosa LV strain. The free cells supernatant was fractionated with a serial organic solvent with crescent polarity and a dichloromethane phase was concentrated and lyophilised, and after was fractionated using vacuum liquid chromatography. The antibiotic activity of the F3 fraction containing an organometallic compound was tested on Xap in vitro and in a greenhouse conditions. Plants were sprayed with F3 before or after Xap infection and the results showed changes in exopolysaccharides and cell morphology. The F3 concentration of 450 μg·mL-1 was more effective. The results showed that F3 fraction could be a new alternative to control bacterial spot.

Evaluation of Fusarium Graminearum Growth and Deoxynivalenol Content in Susceptible and Tolerant Varieties of Triticum Aestivum

The aim of this work was to verify if the wheat susceptibility/tolerance phenotype to Fusarium head blight （FHB） into the field could be related to the ability of the re-activated seeds to hamper deoxynivalenol （DON） synthesis by Fusarium graminearum into non optimal （i.e. high humidity） storage conditions. On this purpose, two Fusariurn graminearum strains, Fg126 and Fg8308, were separately inoculated on active but not germinating kernels of Triticum aestivum L. cv ＂Sagittario＂（FHB-susceptible） and cv ＂Blasco＂（FHB-tolerant）, The growth of the fungal strains on wheat kernels was monitored from 0 to 15 days post inoculation through a quantitative SYBR green real-time PCR, as well as ergosterol content through HPLC for comparison. DON biosynthesis into the contaminated wheat seeds was quantified by HPLC method in the same time intervals as above. Significant differences in the ability to grow and synthesize DON, acetylated and glucosylated forms, emerged between the strains also in relation to the wheat variety on which the pathogen developed. The results obtained indicated that the wheat variety which from the epidemiological studies carried out into the field is FHB-tolerant, i.e. Blasco, resulted as the more efficient in hampering DON synthesis in both F. graminearum strains. Thus, this preliminary study could represent a contribution to find out less time consuming methods for screening the wheat varieties tolerant to DON accumulation in non optimal storage conditions.

The Porcine Pulmonary Surfactant Protein A (pSP-A) Immunogenicity Evaluation in the Murine Model

This paper investigated the porcine surfactant protein A (pSP-A) immunogenicity in murine model. Many elegant stu-dies about SP-A therapeutic applications are available however specific studies about its exogenous immunogenicity were not easily assumed. Therefore, we investigated the immunogenicity of this porcine protein in mice. The mice re-ceived pSP-A subcutaneously on days 0 and 7. The animals were observed during 90 days and the blood was collected on days 30, 60 and 90 for assessment the immunogenic potential of pSP-A. Some animals showed circulating antibodies above the screening cut point, which was calculated based on control mice sera signals. However, those antibodies were considered false positive read-outs by the performed competitive inhibition assay. Also no neutralizing antibodies were detected able to avoid the porcine protein ability to promote lipid aggregation. So far in this model, porcine surfactant protein-A could be considered not immunogenic.
