Over the past 5 years there has been a rapid increase in the use of microarray technology in the field of cancer research. The majority of studies use microarray analysis of tumor biopsies for profiling of molecular characteristics in an attempt to produce robust classifi ers for prognosis. There are now several published gene sets that have been shown to predict for aggressive forms of breast cancer, where patients are most likely to benefit from adjuvant chemotherapy and tumors most likely to develop distant metastases, or be resistant to treatment. The number of publications relating to the use of microarrays for analysis of normal tissue damage, after cancer treatment or genotoxic exposure, is much more limited. A PubMed literature search was conducted using the following keywords and combination of terms: radiation, normal tissue, microarray, gene expression profi ling, prediction. With respect to normal tissue radiation injury, microarrays have been used in three ways: (1) to generate gene signatures to identify sensitive and resistant populations (prognosis); (2) to identify sets of biomarker genes for estimating radiation exposure, either accidental or as a result of terrorist attack (diagnosis); (3) to identify genes and pathways involved in tissue response to injury (mechanistic). In this article we will review all (relevant) papers that covered our literature search criteria on microarray technology as it has been applied to normal tissue radiation biology and discuss how successful this has been in defining predisposition markers for radiation sensitivity or how it has helped us to unravel molecular mechanisms leading to acute and late tissue toxicity. We also discuss some of the problems and limitations in application and interpretation of such data.

Objectives:To translate and study the factor structure of a Japanese version of the Stressors in Nursing Students ***:The Stressors in Nursing Students scale was translated into Japanese and administered to a large cohort(N=1298)of female Japanese nursing students across five universities and across all four years of the nursing *** data were analysed using exploratory factor ***:Exploratory factor analysis revealed four factors:‘Clinical’;‘Conflict and confidence’;‘Education’;and‘Free time’.The relationship between the total score on the Stressors in Nursing Students scale and the demographic aspects of the sample was weak but there was a significant increase in the perception of stressors between first and second year ***:There were similarities and differences between the perception of stressors by nursing students in Japan compared with,for example,the United Kingdom and China *** a fourfactor structure was found here,the distribution of items in the Stressors in Nursing Students scale differed from previous studies in the United Kingdom and China with the‘Free time’factor being unique to this *** is an issue for nursing students and is related to the specific stressors they encounter in the process of their work and *** can inform the development of strategies to reduce such stressors among nursing students in multiple,global contexts.

AIM:To determine if the T cell memory to HBsAg can persist for a long time after hepatitis B (HB) ***: Thirty one vaccine recipients who werehealthcare workers (18 females and 13 males aged 34-58 years) from Utrecht University Hospital, Netherlands, and had previously received a standard course of vaccination for hepatitis B were investigated and another 9 unvaccinated healthy volunteers from the same hospital were used as the *** samples were taken just before the experiment to test serum anti-HBs levels and the subjects were classified into different groups according to their serum titers of antiHBs and vaccination *** peripheral blood mononuclear cells (PBMC) were isolated from freshly heparinized venous blood and the proliferative response of T lymphoo/tes to the recombinant hepatitis B surface antigen (HBsAg) was ***: Positive serum anti-HBs was found in 61.3%(19/31) vaccine recipients and a significant in vitro lymphocyte proliferative response to recombinant HBsAg was observed in all the vaccinees with positive *** anti-HBs level≤10IU/L was found in 38.7% (12/31) *** this study, we specially focused on lymphocyte proliferative response to recombinant HBsAg in those vaccine recipients with serum anti-HBsAg less than 10IU/*** of them had received a standard course of vaccination about 10 years before. T lymphocyte proliferative response was found positive in 7 of the 12 vaccine *** results confirmed that HBsAg-specific memory T cells remained detectable in the circulation for a long time after vaccination,even when serum anti-HBs level had been ***: The T cell memory to HBsAg can persist for at least 10 years after HB vaccination. Further booster injection is not necessary in healthy responders to HB vaccine.

Background The value of intravascular ultrasound （IVUS） imaging in patients with replacement of the ascending aorta for acute type A aortic dissection （AD） is unknown. The purpose of this study was to assess the potential use of IVUS imaging in this setting. Methods From September 2002 to July 2005, IVUS imaging with a 9 MHz probe was performed in a series of 16 consecutive patients with suspected or established AD. This study focused on 5 of them with replacement of the ascending aorta for acute type A AD. Among these 5 patients, other imaging modalities including aortography, spiral computed tomography, magnetic resonance imaging and transesophageal echocardiography were performed in 5, 3, 3 and 1 patients, respectively. Results There were no complications related to IVUS imaging. For the replaced graft, as other imaging modalities, IVUS could identify all 5 grafts, the proximal and the distal anastomoses, and the ostia of the reimplanted coronary arteries. In 2 cases, IVUS detected 2 peri-graft pseudo-aneurysms （1 per case）, which were also detected by magnetic resonance imaging but omitted by aortography. For the residual dissection, IVUS had similar findings as other imaging modalities in detecting the patency （5/5）, the longitudinal and the circumferential extent, the thrombus （4/5）, the recurrent dissection （1/5） and an aneurysm distal to the graft （5 in 4 patients）. However, it detected more intimal tears and side branch involvements than other imaging modalities （15 vs 10 and 3 vs 1, respectively）. Conclusions In following-up patients with replacement of the ascending aorta for acute type A AD, IVUS imaging can provide complete information of the replaced graft and the residual dissection. So, IVUS imaging may be considered when the four current frequently used imaging modalities can not supply sufficient information or there are some discrepancies between them.

Background:There is a lack of rigorous research investigating the factors that influence scar outcome in children. Improved clinical decision-making to reduce the health burden due to post-burn scarring in children will be guided by evidence on risk factors and risk stratification. This study aimed to examine the association between selected patient, injury and clinical factors and the development of raised scar after burn injury. Novel patient factors were investigated including selected immunological co-morbidities (asthma, eczema and diabetes type 1 and type 2) and skin pigmentation (Fitzpatrick skin type). Methods:A prospective case-control study was conducted among 186 children who sustained a burn injury in Western Australia. Logistic regression was used to explore the relationship between explanatory variables and a defined outcome measure:scar height measured by a modified Vancouver Scar Scale (mVSS). Results:The overall correct prediction rate of the model was 80.6%;80.9%for children with raised scars (>1 mm) and 80.4%for children without raised scars (≤1 mm). After adjustment for other variables, each 1%increase in%total body surface area (%TBSA) of burn increased the odds of raised scar by 15.8%(95%CI=4.4-28.5%). Raised scar was also predicted by time to healing of longer than 14 days (OR=11.621;95%CI=3.727-36.234) and multiple surgical procedures (OR=11.521;1.994-66.566). Conclusions:Greater burn surface area, time to healing of longer than 14 days, and multiple operations are independently associated with raised scar in children after burn injury. Scar prevention strategies should be targeted to children with these risk factors.

Background: Major burns are life threatening. Fluid resuscitation is required for survival to maintain intravascular volumes and prevent hypovolemic shock. Bioimpedance spectroscopy (BIS) has been recognised as a potential method of monitoring fluid shifts after burn and in other disease states. The aims of this study were to examine the reliability of BIS across different dressing conditions and electrode positions, establish the influence of Acticoat?on BIS variable measures and determine the validity of whole-body BIS to assess net fluid shift in the presence of moderate to major burns. Methods: An observational longitudinal cohort study was conducted from December 2014 to February 2016. Patients with over 15% total body surface area (TBSA) burns and injury less than 48 h were enrolled in the study. BIS triplicate measures were collected in an open wound and with an ActicoatTMdressing (at 5 half hour intervals). Standard and alternate electrode placements were utilised for the reliability analysis and standard placement only for determining the validity of BIS in moderate to major burns. The ImpediMde SFB7 was used to collect whole-body and segmental BIS measures. Stata statistical software, release 14 was utilised to analyse all results. Descriptive analyses were performed and were reported using the means and standard deviations (SD). Results: BIS-repeated measures established BIS raw resistance (R), and predicted volume variables were reliable in any condition (intra-class correlation coefficient (ICC) 0.996-0.999, 95% confidence intervals (CI) 0.996-0.999) without a systematic difference. Acticoat?dressings significantly influenced all BIS-predicted volumes (p≤0.01) as determined by multilevel mixed effects (MLME) linear regression analysis.
