Impacts of global warming on southern California's winegrape climate suitability

Southern California has seen a resurgence of winegrowing regions in the past few decades,however the future of winegrape climatic suitability in the area has not been exhaustively *** study evaluated the future climate suitability for the cultivation of winegrape and potential global warming impacts on southern California's winegrowing regions through a series of high-resolution surface air temperature and precipitation projections obtained with the WRF-SSIB regional climate *** reveal that by mid-21st-century the surface air temperature will increase by approximately 1.2℃,while average precipitation will decrease by as much as 11%in the southern winegrowing areas under the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change high greenhouse-gas emissions *** of bioclimatic suitability indices indicate increases in heat accumulation for all major winegrowing areas;including an increase of about 10% in growing-degree day,while morning low temperatures in September may experience increases of approximately 11% in the future,thus impacting negatively the ripening stage of grapevines and leading to changes in wine composition and ***,the extent of areas classified under the cool to warm climate suitability categories could decrease by nearly 42% in the study area by *** in southern California are already warm and dry for viticulture and continuing heat accumulation increase,along with rainfall reduction,could potentially place additional stress to winegrape crop in the area,including advanced phenological timing and moisture deficit stress that could lead to decreases in *** projected decline in viticulture suitability highlights the need for adaptive capacity within this sector to mitigate the impacts of global *** mitigating strategies include planting hotter climate grape varieties,moving vineyards to regions that are more suitable in the future,and adopting dry-farming techniques.

Effect of operating conditions and potassium content on Fischer-Tropsch liquid products produced by potassium-promoted iron catalysts

The dependencies of Fischer-Tropsch synthesis liquid hydrocarbon product distribution on operating pressure and temperature have been studied over three potassium-promoted iron catalysts with increasing potassium molar content. The study followed an experimental planning and the results were analyzed based on surface response methodology. The effects of different operating conditions and potassium contents on the liquid product distribution were compared based on number average carbon number and dispersion. Results showed that high pressures （25 to 30 arm） favored the production of waxes that could be converted into liquid fuels through hydrocracking, while greater direct selectivity towards diesel was favored by low pressure （20 arm） using catalysts with low potassium to iron molar ratios. The liquid product distribution produced using an iron catalyst with high potassium content presented higher number-average number of carbons when compared to the distribution obtained using an iron catalyst with low potassium content.

In spite of advances in surgical care and rehabilitation, the consequences of spinal cord injury （SCI） are still challenging. Several experimental therapeutic strategies have been studied in the SCI field, and recent advances have led to the development of therapies that may act on the inhibitory microenvironment. Assorted lineages of stem cells are considered a good treatment for SCI. This study investigated the effect of systemic transplantation of mesenchymal stem cells （MSCs） in a compressive SCI model. Here we present results of the intraperitoneal route, which has not been used previously for MSC administration after compressive SCI. We used adult female C57BL/6 mice that underwent laminectomy at the T9 level, followed by spinal cord compression for 1 minute with a 30-g vascular clip. The animals were divided into five groups： sham （anesthesia and laminectomy but without compression injury induction）, MSC i.p. （intraperitoneal injection of 8×10^5 MSCs in 500 μL of DMEM at 7 days after SCI）, MSC i.v. （intravenous injection of 8 × 10^5 MSCs in 500μL of DMEM at 7 days after SCI）, DMEM i.p. （intraperitoneal injection of 500μL of DMEM at 7 days after SCI）, DMEM i.v. （intravenous injection of 500 μL of DMEM at 7 days after SCI）. The effects of MSCs transplantation in white matter sparing were analyzed by luxol fast blue staining. The number of preserved fibers was counted in semithin sections stained with toluidine blue and the presence of trophic factors was analyzed by immunohistochemistry. In addition, we analyzed the locomotor performance with Basso Mouse Scale and Global Mobility Test. Our results showed white matter preservation and a larger number of preserved fibers in the MSC groups than in the DMEM groups. Furthermore, the MSC groups had higher levels of trophic factors （brain-derived neurotrophic factor, nerve growth factor, neurotrophin-3 and neurotrophin-4） in the spinal cord and improved locomotor performance. Energy Conversion Factor for Gasoline Engines in Real-World Driving Emission Cycle

A precise energy conversion factor is required to define the impact of greenhouse gas emissions by gasoline-powered vehi-cles and policies that will guide the application of future *** current energy conversion factor adopted by many countries is based on the Willans line approach,initially proposed in 1888 for steam engines,later adapted for internal combustion *** actual energy conversion factor,which defines the energy conversion for drivers in real traffic,is *** this article,eight world-class engines are tested in an engine bench for the acquisition of specific fuel consumption 3D ***,their energy conversion factors,calculated by dividing the energy output by the energy input,are simulated in real and urban traffic,acquired according to the real driving emissions(Rde)*** addition,a reference vehicle is instrumented to measure the energy input(fuel flow)and the energy output(mechanical energy in the half axles)under the same Rde cycle *** results of both procedures are very similar,respectively,0.405±0.04 L/kWh for the simulation based on eight benchmark engines,and 0.392±0.04 L/kWh for the reference vehicle driven in Rde traffic conditions,with a 95%confidence *** turbocharged engines,the factor attained by the simulation is 0.395±0.04 L/*** values of the energy conversion factor for gasoline engines got in this research are higher than those obtained through the Willans line approach,suggesting a new standard value of 0.405 L/kWh,replacing the current 0.264 L/*** could substantially change the greenhouse gas emissions in a tank-to-wheel approach for the entire vehicle and add-on eco-innovations.

The SeridóBelt,at the extreme northeast of Brazil,is one of the several Neoproterozoic mobile belts related to the Brasiliano/Pan-African Orogeny in Western *** lithostratigraphy of the SeridóBelt comprises basal quartzites and metaconglomerates(Equador Formation)overlain by hornblende-bearing paragneisses,calc-silicate rocks and marbles(Jucurutu Formation)and biotiteschists(SeridóFormation).We investigated the sedimentary provenance of these rocks based on an integration of compiled whole-rock geochemistry,Sm-Nd isotopes,U-Pb detrital zircon ages and a new set of whole-rock trace elements *** Formation quartzites have major and trace elements patterns that resemble cratonic sandstones,with a typical felsic provenance consistent with the isotopic composition of plutonic Archean to Paleoproterozoic basement *** proxies suggest that these rocks were deposited in fresh waters under anoxic conditions and moderate to intense weathering conditions(CIA=58–79).A shift in provenance led to an increase in intermediate-mafic sources during the deposition of the Jucurutu and Seridó*** elements from rock types in these units are nearly identical,yet they differ on the contents of some high field-strength elements(e.g.,Sc,V and Ni),which are higher in the SeridóFormation than average *** proxies show similar depositional environments,with brackish to marine conditions for the Jucurutu and Seridóformations under anoxic to euxinic *** conditions are consistently lower in the Jucurutu Formation(CIA=58–66)in comparison with the SeridóFormation(CIA=60–88).Compiled U-Pb data suggest maximum depositional ages of 633±11 Ma and 633±6 Ma for Jucurutu and Seridóformations,respectively,suggesting deposition following the ca.645–635 Ma Marinoan *** compared the geochemistry of the SeridóFormation schists with currently exposed basement rocks and showed a strong affinity with Neoproterozoic arc-related

The majority of tornado fatalities occur during severe thunderstorm occurrences that produce a large number of tornadoes,termed tornado *** study used extreme value theory to estimate the impact of tornado outbreaks on fatalities while accounting for climate and demographic *** findings indicate that the number of fatalities increases with the increase of tornado ***,this study undertook a counterfactual analysis to determine what would have been the probability of a tornado outbreak under various climatic and demographic *** results of the counterfactual study indicate that the likelihood of increased mortality increases as the population forecast *** El Niño events,on the other hand,reduce the likelihood of further *** Niña events are expected to increase probability of fatalities.

^(11)C-PK11195 is a positron emitter tracer used for Positron Emission Tomography(PET)imaging of innate immune cell activation in studies of neuroinflammatory *** the image quantitative analysis,it is necessary to quantify the intact fraction of this tracer in the arterial plasma during imaging acquisition(plasma intact fraction).Due to the complexity and costs involved in this analysis it is important to evaluate the real necessity of individual analysis in each 11C-PK11195 PET imaging *** purpose of this study is to compare 11CPK11195 plasma metabolization rate between healthy controls and multiple sclerosis(MS)patients and evaluate the interference of sex,age,treatment,and disease phenotype in the tracer intact fraction measured in arterial plasma samples.11C-PK11195 metabolization rate in arterial plasma was quantified by high performance liquid chromatography in samples from MS patients(n=50)and healthy controls(n=23)at 20,45,and 60 minutes after 11C-PK11195 *** were also stratified by sex,age,treatment type,and MS *** results showed no significant differences in the metabolization rate of healthy controls and MS patients,or in the stratified *** conclusion,11C-PK11195 metabolization has the same rate in patients with MS and healthy controls,which is not affected by sex,age,treatment,and disease ***,these findings could contribute to exempting the necessity for tracer metabolization determination in all 11C-PK11195 PET imaging acquisition,by using a population metabolization rate *** study procedures were approved by the Ethics Committee for Research Projects Analysis of the Hospital das Clinicas of the University of Sao Paulo Medical School(approval No.624.065)on April 23,2014.

The gut microbiota refers to the collection of trillions of intestinal microorganisms that modulate central aspects of health and disease through influential effects on host ***,a connection has been made between the gut microbiota and *** investigations demonstrated the beneficial effects of exercise on the gut microbiota,with cross-sectional studies revealing positive correlations between exerciseassociated states,and healthy gut microbiota and exercise interventions showed post-intervention increases in the abundance of beneficial bacterial *** recent investigations have focused on exploring the reverse relationship:the influence of the gut microbiota on exercise *** investigations have revealed that certain bacterial taxa may enhance endurance exercise performance by augmenting various aspects of lactate ***,short-chain fatty acids—which modulate metabolism at various organ sites,including within skeletal muscle—have been shown to enhance endurance exercise capacity in *** review highlights what is currently known about the connection between the gut microbiota and exercise,with a particular focus on the ergogenic potential of the gut microbiota and how it may be leveraged to enhance endurance exercise performance.

The scope and aim of this work is to describe the two-body interaction mediated by a particle （either the scalar or the gauge boson） within the light-front formulation. To do this, first of all we point out the importance of propagators and Green functions in Quantum Mechanics. Then we project the covariant quantum propagator onto the light front time to get the propagator for scalar particles in these coordinates. This operator propagates the wave function from x＋ = 0 to x＋〉 0. It corresponds to the definition of the time ordering operation in the light front time x＋. We calculate the light-front Green＇s function for 2 interacting bosons propagating forward in x＋. We also show how to write down the light front Green＇s function from the Feynman propagator and finally make a generalization to N bosons.
