Does COVID-19 increase the risk of neuropsychiatric sequelae? Evidence from a mendelian randomization approach

Observational studies based on electronic health records (EHR) report anincreased risk of neurological/neuropsychiatric sequelae for patients who havehad coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19). However, these studies may sufferfrom biases such as unmeasured confounding, residual reverse causality, or lackof precision in EHR-based diagnoses. To rule out these biases, we tested causallinks between COVID-19 and different potential neurological/neuropsychiatricsequelae through a two-sample Mendelian randomization analysis of summarystatistics from large Genome-Wide Association Scans of susceptibility to COVID-19 and different neurological and neuropsychiatric disorders, including majordepression, anxiety, schizophrenia, stroke, Parkinson’s and Alzheimer’s *** found robust evidence suggesting that COVID-19 – notably the hospitalizedand most severe forms – carries an increased risk of neuropsychiatric sequelae,particularly Alzheimer’s disease, and to a lesser extent anxiety disorder. In linewith a large longitudinal EHR-based study, this evidence was stronger for moresevere COVID-19 forms. These results call for a targeted screening strategy totackle the post-COVID neuropsychiatric pandemic.

Background:The implementation of minimally invasive liver resection surgery(MILS)programs starts from procedures with a low degree of technical *** regarding the real short-term advantage of laparoscopy according to technical difficulty are still *** aim of the present study is to evaluate the differential benefit of laparoscopic over open technique according to the technical difficulty of the procedures and to investigate if efforts associated with laparoscopic approach are always ***:Nine hundred and thirty-six MILS resections performed between 2005 and 2018 were stratified according to technical complexity(low,intermediate and high difficulty)and to approach(MILS or open)and matched in a 1:1 ratio using propensity scores to obtain three pairs of groups(Pair 1:Low-MILS and Low-Open,including 274 cases respectively;Pair 2:Int-MILS and Int-Open,including 237 patients respectively;Pair 3:High-MILS and High-Open,including 226 patients respectively).Results:MILS approach resulted in a statistically significant lower blood loss,reduced morbidity,reduced and shorter time for functional recover and length of stay within all *** evaluation of the differential benefit showed a greater advantage of laparoscopic approach in high degree procedures compared with intermediate and low degree,both in terms of blood loss(-250 and-200 mL respectively)and morbidity rate(-5.7%and-4.1%respectively).Conclusions:The favorable biological scenario associated with laparoscopic approach allows to obtain significant benefits in the setting of technically complex *** commitment towards MILS approach should be therefore stronger in this setting,where the advantage of laparoscopy seems to be enhanced.

Catalytic pyrolysis of digestate to produce aromatic hydrocarbons can be combined with anaerobic fermentation to effectively transform and utilize all biomass components,which can achieve the meaningful purpose of transforming waste into high-value *** study explored whether catalytic pyrolysis of digestate is feasible to prepare aromatic hydrocarbons by analyzing the thermogravimetric characteristics,pyrolysis characteristics,and catalytic pyrolysis characteristics of *** digestate pyrolysis,an increase in temperature was found to elevate the CO,CH_4,and monocyclic aromatic hydrocarbon(benzene,toluene,and xylene;BTX)content,whereas it decreased the contents of phenols,acids,aldehydes,and other ***,the catalytic pyrolysis process effectively inhibited the acids,phenols,and furans in the liquid,whereas the yield of BTX increased from 25.45%to 45.99%,and the selectivity of xylene was also increased from 10.32%to 28.72%after adding ***-5 also inhibited the production of nitrogenous compounds.
