Cultured meat from muscle stem cells: A review of challenges and prospects

Growing muscle tissue in culture from animal stem cells to produce meat theoretically eliminates the need to sacrifice animals. So-called ＂cultured＂ or ＂synthetic＂ or ＂in vitro＂ meat could in theory be constructed with different characteristics and be produced faster and more efficiently than traditional meat. The technique to generate cultured muscle tissues from stem cells was described long ago, but has not yet been developed for the commercial production of cultured meat products. The technology is at an early stage and prerequisites of implementation include a reasonably high level of consumer acceptance, and the development of commercially-viable means of large scale production. Recent advancements in tissue culture techniques suggest that production may be economically feasible, provided it has physical properties in terms of colour, flavour, aroma, texture and palatability that are comparable to conventional meat. Although considerable progress has been made during recent years, important issues remain to be resolved, including the characterization of social and ethical constraints, the fine-tuning of culture conditions, and the development of culture media that are cost-effective and free of animal products. Consumer acceptance and confidence in in vitro produced cultured meat might be a significant impediment that hinders the marketing process.

The operating temperature is a critical factor affecting the performances of photovoltaic(PV)*** this work,relevant models are proposed for the prediction of this operating temperature using data(ambient temperature and solar irradiance)based on real measurements conducted in the tropical *** each weather condition(categorized according to irradiance and temperature levels),the temperatures of the PV modules obtained using the proposed approach is compared with the corresponding experimentally measured *** results show that the proposed models have a smaller Root Mean Squared Error than other models developed in the literature for all weather conditions,which confirms the reliability of the proposed framework.

Acoustic Emission Source Linear Localization Based on an Ultra-Short FBGs Sensing System

An acoustic emission （AE） linear location system was proposed, which employed fiber Bragg gratings （FBGs） as AE sensors. It was demonstrated that the FBG wavelength could be modulated as the static case when the grating length was much shorter than the AE wavelength. In addition, an improved AE location method based on the Gabor wavelet transform （WT） and threshold analysis was represented. The method was testified through AE linear location experiments based on a tunable narrow-band laser interrogation system using ultra-short FBG sensors as AE sensors. Results of the experiments showed that 86% of the linear location errors were less than 10mm.

Incomplete fault signal characteristics and ease of noise contamination are issues with the current rolling bearing early fault diagnostic methods,making it challenging to ensure the fault diagnosis accuracy and reliability.A novel approach integrating enhanced Symplectic geometry mode decomposition with cosine difference limitation and calculus operator(ESGMD-CC)and artificial fish swarm algorithm(AFSA)optimized extreme learning machine(ELM)is proposed in this paper to enhance the extraction capability of fault features and thus improve the accuracy of fault ***,SGMD decomposes the raw vibration signal into multiple Symplectic geometry components(SGCs).Secondly,the iterations are reset by the cosine difference limitation to effectively separate the redundant components from the representative ***,the calculus operator is performed to strengthen weak fault features and make them easier to extract,and the singular value decomposition(SVD)weighted by power spectrum entropy(PSE)can be utilized as the sample feature ***,AFSA iteratively optimized ELM is adopted as the optimized classifier for fault *** superior performance of the proposed method has been validated by various experiments.

Influence of anthropic and eco-hydrological factors on the floristic diversity of the herbaceous vegetation around the temporary ponds in Ferlo,northern Senegal

Temporary ponds play substantial roles in preserving biodiversity in the *** study investigated the influence of anthropic and eco-hydrological factors on the plant diversity around two grazed ponds and one ungrazed pond in Ferlo,northern *** phytoecological transects were established per *** each transect,homogenous herbaceous vegetation units were identified and characterized(herbaceous cover,exposure,soil texture,soil moisture and pH,average height and slope).The herbaceous flora comprised 55 species,41 genera and 22 families across the three *** of the Poaceae,particularly Eragrostis tremula and Enteropogon prieurii,mostly colonized the grazed ponds,while the ungrazed pond favored other families’species such as Achyranthes sp.,Commelina forsskaolii,Corchorus *** Shannon’s diversity index(H′)of Wendu Marodi(ungrazed pond)was slightly higher(4.9 bits)than that of Belel Lougal and Belel Sow(grazed ponds)with 4.8 and 4.5 bits,*** equitability indices were relatively high in the three ponds(0.85,0.83 and 0.78).Eco-ecological factors distinguished four species’groupings:a Tribulus terrestris grouping colonizing the constraining and over-grazed zones,a Digitaria horizontalis grouping,and Chloris barbata grouping found in the transition zones,and an Achyranthes aspera grouping in the wetlands,where woody plants were strongly present and the anthropic action *** study highlighted the importance of maintaining a landscape mosaic of ungrazed or semi-protected ponds and grazed ponds to preserve the herbaceous floristic diversity in the center of Ferlo(Senegal)and the Sahel in general.

Mechanisms of ice accumulation in a river bend-an experimental study

In this study,under conditions of different flow and ice discharge,extensive experiments have been carried out in a 180°-bend flume and an S-shaped bend *** phenomenon and mechanisms of ice accumulation in the bend channel have been *** accumulation along the convex bank was normally thicker than that along the concave *** maximum thickness of ice accumulation in the downstream bend channel occurred close to the convex *** difference between the maximum thickness and the minimum thickness of ice accumulation was *** entire ice accumulation became unstable if flow Froude number was *** the flow Froude Number is high,the entire ice accumulation becomes *** Froude Number between 0.035 and 0.060,the bottom surface of ice accumulation became waved in *** changes in Froude number and ice discharge rate can change a channel from a state of no ice accumulation to uniform accumulation over the channel *** higher the ice discharge,the more uniform the ice *** experimental results have been compared with field observations of ice jams at the Hequ Reach of the Yellow River.
