Efficacy and safety of modified medium-chain triglyceride ketogenic diet in patients with drug-resistant epilepsy

Background Medium-chain triglyceride ketogenic diet(MCTKD)is previously less commonly used in *** study was aimed to assess the efficacy and safety of the modified MCTKD in the treatment of drug-resistant epilepsy in Chinese *** Patients with drug-resistant epilepsy were enrolled to receive treatment with modified MCTKD in guangdong Sanjiu Brain Hospital during December 2020 and September *** modified MCTKD contained fat that provided 50–70%of the total energy,as well as proteins and carbohydrates that provided 20–30%and 20%of energy,*** fat component was composed of 20–30%medium-chain triglycerides(MCTs)and 30–40%long-chain *** efficacy and safety of the diet were assessed at 1,3 and 6 *** A total of 123 patients aged 2.5 to 65 years,were included in this *** response rates at 1,3 and 6 months were 49.6%,43.1%,and 30.9%,*** seizure freedom rates at 1,3 and 6 months were 12.2%,10.6%,and 6.5%,*** retention rates at 1,3 and 6 months were 98.4%,65.0%and 33.3%*** effects occurred in 21.14%of patients,which were predominantly gastrointestinal symptoms such as abdominal pain,diarrhea,vomiting,and constipation,and most of them resolved after dietary adjustments.A total of 82 patients(66.7%)discontinued the treatment with the reason of refusing to eat(8.1%),poor efficacy(35.0%),poor compliance(4.9%),and inability to follow-up(9.8%).Only 4 patients(3.3%)withdrew the diet due to side *** The modified MCTKD with MCTs providing 20–30%of energy has a good safety in patients with drug-resistant epilepsy,but its effectiveness needs to be *** modifications of MCTKD with an optimal energy ratio are required to achieve a better efficacy and safety.

Lipids are an important global commodity and industrial raw *** of the lipids consumed worldwide are derived from *** 2017,the total production of vegetable oils and animal fats was estimated at 206.1 million tons per year,with vegetable oils accounting for∼87%of this total(Mielke,2017).Oilseed crops,a major source of vegetable oils,store triglycerides primarily in seeds and fruits,with variation in the specific types of oils produced(Zanetti et al.,2013).A comprehensive understanding of the genes and mechanisms associated with lipid biosynthesis in various oilseed crops is essential for improving oil content traits in these crops through molecular biology and breeding(Xu and Shanklin,2016).

The physical formation mechanisms of the Atlantic Multidecadal Variability(AMV)in the context of global warming have been a key research topic(Vecchi et al.,2017).The conventional view is that the AMV is mainly driven by internal dynamics within the climate system,especially in the Atlantic Ocean(Zhang et al.,2019).However,some studies suggest that decadal to multidecadal variations in North Atlantic sea surface temperature(SST)since around 1950 are related to anthropogenic and natural aerosol emissions(Otter?et al.,2010;Booth et al.,2012;hua et al.,2019).

Hepatic ischemia-reperfusion injury(HIRI)is the cause of postoperative hepatic dysfunction and failure,and even *** an important biological effector molecule,hydrogen sulfide(H_(2)S)of mitochondria as a gasotransmitter that is usually used to protect against acute HIRI ***,the exact relationship between HIRI and mitochondrial H_(2)S remains tangled due to the lack of an effective analytical ***,we have fabricated a mitochondria-targeted H_(2)S-activatable fluorogenic probe(Mito-gW)to explore the stability of mitochondrial H_(2)S and track the changes of mitochondrial H_(2)S during the *** virtue of pyridinium electropositivity and its amphiphilicity,Mito-gW could accumulate in *** goes through an analyte-prompted immolation when reacts with H_(2)S,resulting in the releasing of the fluorophore(gW).Therefore,the extent of Mito-gW conversion to gW can be used to evaluate the changes of mitochondrial H_(2)S level in living cells and *** proof-of-principle,we have used MitogW to demonstrate the mitochondria H_(2)S-levels increase and then decrease during HIRI in vitro and in *** research highlights the tremendous potential of Mito-gW as a mitochondrial H_(2)S fluorogenic probe in elucidating the pathogenesis of HIRI,providing a powerful tool for promoting future research on hepatology.

The real-time monitoring of the weld pool during deposition is important for automatic control in plasma arc additive *** obtain a high deposition accuracy,it is essential to maintain a stable weld pool *** this study,a novel passive visual method is proposed to measure the weld pool *** the proposed method,the image quality was improved by designing a special visual system that employed an endoscope and a *** also includes pixel brightness-based and gradient-based algorithms that can adaptively detect feature points at the boundary when the weld pool geometry *** algorithm can also be applied to materials with different solidification *** was performed to measure the real weld pool length in world coordinates,and outlier rejection was performed to increase the accuracy of the ***,tests were carried out on the intersection component,and the results showed that the proposed method performed well in tracking the changing weld pool length and was applicable to the real-time monitoring of different types of materials.
