Synthesis of.Silver Nanoparticles f.om Honeybees and Its Antibacterial Potential

Honeybees (Apis mellif.ra) are important pollinators of.f.owering plants and agricultural crops contributing annually to b.llions of.dollars in revenues to crop production. Honeybees have an average lif.span between 8 weeks to 5 years. Dead honeybees are abundantly available in beehives and can be utilized as an alternative source to synthesize nanoparticles. In recent years, biologically synthesized nanoparticles have been pref.rred over their chemical counterparts. However, honeybee-based-green synthesis of.nanoparticles has not been explored yet. Herein, we report the biosynthesis of.silver nanoparticles f.om honeybees and its antibacterial activity. The synthesis of.silver nanoparticles was monitored visually through a gradual change in color. f.rthermore, the biosynthesized nanoparticles were conf.rmed and characterized by UV-visible spectroscopy. Scanning Electron Microscope was utilized to analyze the average size and morphologies of.the biosynthesized nanoparticles. Subsequently, the antibacterial potential of.the biosynthesized silver nanoparticles was tested against selected Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacterial strains. It was f.und that a distinct color change f.om yellow to brown in the reaction solution suggested the f.rmation of.silver nanoparticles. The biosynthesized nanoparticles exhibited absorption maxima at 430 nm. The SEM analysis conf.rmed the spherical and cuboidal shape of.the biosynthesized silver nanoparticles with a size range between 10 - 40 nm. f.rthermore, the biosynthesized silver nanoparticles exhibited strong antimicrobial potential against tested Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria strains by aggregating on the cell surf.ce. This study showcases the biomedical and agricultural applications of.biosynthesized silver nanoparticles f.om honeybee wings. .

Naturalﬁbre(Nf.)reinf.rced f.nctional polymer composites are quickly becoming an indispensable sustainable material in the transportation industry because of.their lightweight,lower cost in manuf.cture,and adaptability to a wide variety of.***,the major dif.culties of.using theseﬁbres are their existing poor dimensional stability and the extreme *** assessing the mechanical properties(MP)of.composites,the interf.cial bonding(Ib)happening between the Nf. and the polymer matrix(PM)plays an incredibly signiﬁcant *** compared to Nf./syntheticﬁbre hybrid composites,hybrid composites(HC)made up of.two separate Nf. are less prevalent;yet,these hybrid composites also have the potential to be valuable materials in terms of.environmental issues.A new dimension to theﬂexibility of.composites reinf.rced with Nf. is added by the cost-ef.ective manuf.cture of.hybrid composites utilising *** purpose of.this study is to of.er an over-view of.the keyﬁndings that were presented on hybrid *** emphasis was f.cused on the f.ctors that inﬂuence the perf.rmance of.the naturalﬁber composites,diverse approaches to enhancing MP,physical,electri-cal,and thermal characteristics of.the *** study in polymer science gains interest f.r applications in con-struction and automotive industries.

Artif.cial ground f.eezing of.underground mines in cold regions using thermosyphons with air insulation

Current practice of.underground artif.cial ground f.eezing(AGf.typically involves huge ref.igeration systems of.large economic and environmental *** this study,a novel AGf.technique is proposed deploying available cold wind in cold *** is achieved by a static heat transf.r device called thermosyphon equipped with an air insulation layer.A ref.igeration unit can be optionally integrated to meet additional cooling *** introduction of.air insulation isolates the thermosyphon f.om ground zones where f.eezing is not needed,resulting in:(1)steering the cooling resources(cold wind or ref.igeration)towards zones of.interest;and(2)minimizing ref.igeration *** design is demonstrated using well-validated mathematical models f.om our previous work based on two-phase enthalpy method of.the ground coupled with a thermal resistance network f.r the *** Canadian mines are considered:the Cigar Lake Mine and the Giant *** results show that our proposed design can speed the f.eezing time by 30%at the Giant Mine and by two months at the Cigar Lake ***,a cooling load of.2.4 GWh can be saved at the Cigar Lake ***,this study provides mining practitioners with sustainable solutions of.underground AGf.

Glyphosate as a direct or indirect activator of.pro-inf.ammatory signaling and cognitive impairment

Glyphosate-based herbicides are widely used around the world, making it likely that most humans have signif.cant exposure. because of.habitual exposure, there are concerns about toxicity including neurotoxicity that could result in neurological, psychiatric, or cognitive impairment. We recently f.und that a single injection of.glyphosate inhibits long-term potentiation, a cellular model of.learning and memory, in rat hippocampal slices dissected 1 day af.er injection, indicating that glyphosate-based herbicides can alter cognitive f.nction. Glyphosate-based herbicides could adversely af.ect cognitive f.nction either indirectly and/or directly. Indirectly, glyphosate could af.ect gut microbiota, and if.dysbiosis results in endotoxemia(leaky gut), inf.ltrated bacterial by-products such as lipopolysaccharides could activate pro-inf.ammatory cascades. Glyphosate can also directly trigger pro-inf.ammatory cascades. Indeed, we observed that acute glyphosate exposure inhibits long-term potentiation in rat hippocampal slices. Interestingly, direct inhibition of.long-term potentiation by glyphosate appears to be similar to that of.lipopolysaccharides. There are several possible measures to control dysbiosis and neuroinf.ammation caused by glyphosate. Dietary intake of.polyphenols, such as quercetin, which overcome the inhibitory ef.ect of.glyphosate on long-term potentiation, could be one ef.ective strategy. The aim of.this narrative review is to discuss possible mechanisms underlying neurotoxicity f.llowing glyphosate exposure as a means to identif. potential treatments.
