The paper delivers an overview on the European research project AITEB - Aerothermal Investigations on Turbine Endwalls and Blades, which started in year 2000 in the course of.the 5. f.amework Programme (GROWTH). The aim is to submit an integrated technology and design tool package f.r the advanced, aerothermal highly loaded design of.turbines, especially: Experimental/numerical investigation on heat transf.r and f.lm-cooling in separated f.ow f.r highly loaded blades including advanced trailing edge cooling Heat transf.r/ improved cooling of.turbine endwalls: Experimental/numerical work on cooling of.turbine endwalls, shrouds and recessed blade tips. Optimised Cf.-process (drawing-grid-modelling-postprocessing-risk assessment) in order to derive the 'best practice' to use Cf. as a time ef.ective tool. Af.er most of.the project lif., an overview on the project is delivered. Experimental results of.test series at various test sites are compared to numerical simulations of.the industrial and university partners.

This paper details the results of.a joint project between Rolls-Royce Deutschland (RRD) and the Northwestern Polytechnical University of.China (NWPU). The objective of.the project was the determination of.the inf.uence of.tabulators in turbine blade cooling passages on f.lm hole discharge coef.icients (Cd coef.icients). A large-scale plexiglas model was used by the NWPU to measure the turbulator inf.uence on Cd coef.icients f.r a wide range of.dif.erent geometrical parameters, Reynolds numbers and cooling f.ow of. take ratios. RRD specif.ed the comprehensive test matrix and analysed the test data. The Cf. code f.UENT was used by RRD f.r numerical simulation of.the test cases with the main objective to support the interpretation of.observed trends. Both, experimental and numerical results will be presented in this paper f.r a selection of.test conf.gurations.

Testing development of.dif.erent surf.ce treatments on pervious concrete

Pervious concrete systems are developing stormwater management technologies which also have wintertime benef.ts as melting snow may percolate into the system instead of.ref.eezing on the surf.ce. Enhancing the surf.ce microtexture of.pervious concrete may also be benef.cial in preventing icing or slipping by pedestrians. This research explored dif.erent surf.ce treatments on pervious concrete specimens both qualitatively f.om personal judgements, and quantitatively through static f.iction measurements with a spring balance with respect to ＂slipperiness＂. The tests were perf.rmed on both dry and wet specimens. One aim was to determine whether the spring balance method may be a simple test f.r comparing surf.ce treatments on pavement samples with little surf.ce area such as laboratory specimens or sidewalk sections. The other purpose was to make a preliminary decision of.which surf.ce treatments to use f.r a sidewalk installation f.r f.ture studies on wintertime perf.rmance. The reliability analysis of.the spring balance results showed that there was high operator consistency. In addition, there was a high level of.consistency on average results between the quantitative and qualitative methods. This implies that the spring balance test may be an acceptable methodology f.r comparative analyses with respect to static f.iction.
