Particulate organic matter(POM)is an important energy source for aquatic consumers,understanding its origin and composition is essential for understanding the energetic dynamics of aquatic *** aim of this study was to analyze the relationship between POM and phytoplankton(isotopic values and chlorophyll concentration)and abiotic variables during dry and rainy *** was conducted in rivers and lagoons in the floodplain of the Upper Paraná*** found a greater difference in ^(δ13)C values of POM between sampling points than between seasons,indicating that the composition of regional sources influences the composition of POM more than dry and rainy *** addition,the concentration of chlorophyll during the dry season was positively correlated with ^(δ13)C values during that rainy ***,we found a relationship between factors limiting the growth of phytoplankton and ^(δ13)C values of POM,such as phosphate ions,indicating that variables that regulate phytoplankton growth tend to influence the composition of POM in river ***,maintaining the variables that regulate the phytoplankton community is of fundamental importance for the composition of POM,an important energy source in aquatic environments.

Coagulopathy in surgical patients can cause perioperative complications, as both bleeding and thromboembolic events increase surgical morbimortality. The recognition of preexisting disorders and the understanding of the dynamic changes in hemostasis during surgery are prerequisites of safe patient management. The perioperative management of patients with chronic kidney failure is a huge challenge due to both the hypercoagulable state and increased risk of bleeding. Classic laboratory exams performed for the evaluation of blood clotting seem insufficient regarding the determination of the risk of bleeding and thrombosis in surgical patients. As patients with chronic kidney failure develop secondary hyperparathyroidism, the aim of the present study was to describe a case series and correlate the perioperative thromboelastographic profile of patients with chronic kidney failure submitted to parathyroidectomy with their secondary hyperparathyroidism.

The effect of chromium addition on the structure and electrical properties of CaCu3Ti4O12 is *** based on the formula CaCu3Ti4-xCrxO12-σ(x = 0, 0.025, 0.050 and 0.075 mol%) are prepared by solid-state reaction. Pellets sintered at 1070℃ for 12 h are characterised by X-ray diffraction, scanning electron microscopy/energy dispersive spectroscopy and impedance spectroscopy. Current densityelectric field, dielectric loss and permittivity measurements are also carried out. Rietveld refinement showed the substitution of Cr(Ⅲ) on the Ti(Ⅳ) site, with the maximum substitution for x = 0.025 mol%.The generation of electrical defects in the grain boundary region by chromium doping is responsible for increasing the electric breakdown field strength and nonlinearity coefficient at room temperature from 1723 V/cm and 5.29 for x = 0 mol% to 3431 V/cm and 8.16 for x = 0.025 mol%. This composition shows the greatest improvement in ceramic varistor parameters.

The hippocampus is involved in important brain functions such as learning and memory,spatial navigation,fear processing,and social behavior(Dudek et al,2016).The most prominent areas of the hippocampus are typically denoted as the dentate gyrus and the three areas of the cornu ammonis(CA1,CA2,and CA3).Discovered by Lorente de Nó(1934),the CA2 region of the hippocampus is a relatively small area interposed between CA3 and CA1 that forms the nexus linking the input of the entorhinal cortex to the output of CA1(Chevaleyre and Siegelbaum,2010).

Contextualized Analysis of Social Networks:Collaboration in Scientific Communities

Currently, the collaboration in scientific communities has been studied in order to explain, among other things, the knowledge diffusion. The quality of Graduate Programmes is often associated with the scientific collaboration. This paper discusses how scientific collaboration processes can be identified and characterized through social and complex networks. for this purpose, collaboration networks of bibliographic production, research projects, and committees of PhD theses and Masters’ dissertations by researchers from a graduate program in computational modeling were studied. The data were obtained from CAPES’ reports of the period from 2001 to 2009. Among the studied indices, centrality indices indicate the presence of prominent researchers who influence others and promptly interact with other researchers in the network. The indices of complex networks reveal the presence of the small-world (i.e. these networks are favorable to increase coordination between researchers) phenomenon and indicate a behavior of scale-free degree distribution (i.e. some researchers promote clustering more than others) for one of the studied networks.

Concepts and challenges of alveolar ridge preservation and augmentation

The loss of the post-extraction alveolar ridge vertical and horizontal volume constitutes an irreversible process and presents a considerable impact on the prosthetic rehabilitation, particularly when implantsupported. Therefore, alveolar ridge resorption has become a challenge in contemporary clinical dentistry and alveolar ridge preservation and augmentation are an interesting therapeutic approach. The employment of biomaterials, as a therapeutic alternative to preserve bone in height and volume, has been frequently studied over the years, due to its conceptual attractiveness and its simple technique. The purpose of this paper is to review and discuss current methods to optimize the alveolar bone repair while maintaining its horizontal and vertical dimensions. This paper is based on scientific studies published in English including systematic reviews and also animal and human studies that were searched using the keywords "alveolar ridge preservation," "bone substitute", "biomaterials", "bone graft" and "grafting". Either autogenous bone as xenogenic and alloplastic materials, platelet rich plasma and use of membrane are alternatives. It becomes fundamental to understand that alveolar bone loss is still a clinical challenge and alveolar ridge preservation techniques can minimize, but not completely, eliminate the resorption process. The goal of alveolar ridge preservation and augmentation is to use a combination of bone or biomaterials to create bone which is sufficient for dental implant placement. freeze-dried bone is generally recognized as giving more predictable treatment outcomes than synthetic materials or platelet rich plasma, and membranes must always be used to separate hard and soft tissues to promote optimal tissue healing.

Study of the efficacy of Korean Red Ginseng in the treatment of erectile dysfunction

Aim： To examine the treatment efficacy of Korean Red Ginseng （KRG） in impotent men with erectile dysfunction （ED）. Methods： A total of 60 patients presenting mild or mild to moderate ED were enrolled in a double-blind, placebo-controlled study in which the efficacies of KRG and a placebo were compared. The patients received either 1 000 mg （3 times daily） of KRG or a placebo. Results： The five-item version of the International Index of Erectile function （IIEf-5） score after the treatment was significantly higher in the KRG group compared with that before the treatment （from 16.4±2.9 to 21.0±6.3, P 〈 0.0001）. In contrast, there was no difference before and after the treatment in the placebo group （from 17.0±3.1 to 17.7±5.6, P 〉 0.05）. In the KRG group, 20 patients （66.6%）, reported improved erection, significant in the global efficacy question （P 〈 0.01）; in the placebo group there was no significance. Scores on questions 2 （rigidity）, 3 （penetration）, 4 and 5 （maintenance）, were significantly higher for KRG than those for the placebo when those questions were answered after 12 weeks of each treatment （P 〈 0.01）. When the score in the KRG group was compared to the placebo group after the treatment, there was a significant improvement in total score （IIEf-5 score） in questions 3 and 5 for the KRG-treated group （P 〈 0.001 and P 〈 0.0001, respectively）. The levels of serum testosterone, prolactine and cholesterol after the treatment were not statistically significant different between the KRG and the placebo group （P 〉 0.05）. Conclusion： Our data show that KRG can be an effective alternative to the invasive approaches for treating male ED.

Amazonian fruits: An Overview of Nutrients, Calories and Use in Metabolic Disorders

Amazonian fruits are outstanding in quality. They are consumed as true delicacies of nature by the Brazilian population. Besides their attractive attributes, i.e. appearance, different textures and distinctive flavors, their nutritional value is diversified in the type of calories and the functional food ingredients. In addition to being very palatable, Amazonian fruits provide energy-rich macronutrients (lipids, proteins and carbohydrates), micronutrients (minerals, water-soluble vitamins and fat-soluble vitamins), prebiotics (dietary fibers, especially pectin), bioactive substances (carotenoids and polyphenols), variety in the diet and improvement in the organoleptic properties and digestibility of (mixed) foods. This study first aimed to review concepts applicable to nutritional constituents and caloric contents of Amazonian fruits. It also attempted to clarify the potential use of these fruits in metabolic disorders (i.e. diabetes mellitus and/or obesity). To fulfill these purposes, 12 fruits were chosen for their dietetic significance in the Brazilian Amazonia.
