Resolution of non-alcoholic steatohepatitis by rosuvastatin monotherapy in patients with metabolic syndrome

AIM: To investigate the effect of rosuvastatin monotherapy on non-alcoholic steatohepatitis(NASH). At present there is no effective treatment for non-alcoholic fatty liver disease or its advanced form ***: This prospective study included 20 biopsy proven patients with NASH, metabolic syndrome(Met S) and dyslipidaemia. Biochemical parameters of the blood of the patients and an ultrasonography of the liver were performed at baseline. Then patients receivedlifestyle advice and were treated for a 12 mo period with rosuvastatin(10 mg/d) monotherapy. Patients were re-evaluated during the study at 3 mo intervals, during which biochemical parameters of the blood were measured including liver enzymes. A repeat biopsy and ultrasonography of the liver were performed at the end of the study in all 20 patients. Changes in liver enzymes, fasting plasma glucose, serum creatinine, serum uric acid(SUA), high sensitivity C reactive protein(hs CRP) and lipid profile were assessed every 3 mo. The primary endpoint was the resolution of NASH and the secondary endpoints were the changes in liver enzyme and lipid ***: The repeat liver biopsy and ultrasonography showed complete resolution of NASH in 19 patients, while the 20 th, which had no improvement but no deterioration either, developed arterial hypertension and substantial rise in triglyceride levels during the study, probably due to changes in lifestyle including alcohol abuse. Serum alanine transaminase, aspartate transaminase, and γ-glutamyl transpeptidase were normalised by the 3rd treatment month(ANOVA P < 0.001), while alkaline phosphatase activities by the 6th treatment month(ANOVA, P = 0.01). Fasting plasma glucose and glycated haemoglobin were significantly reduced(P < 0.001). Lipid values were normalised by the 3rd treatment month. No patient had Met S by the 9th treatment month. Idiopathic inflammatory bowel diseases(IBD), Crohn's disease(CD) and ulcerative colitis(UC), are multifactorial diseases that are manifested after disruption of a genetic predisposed individual and its intestinal microflora through an environmental stimulus. Urbanization and industrialization are associated with IBD. Epidemiological data, clinical observations and family/immigrants studies indicate the significance of environmental influence in the development of IBD. Some environmental factors have a different effect on the subtypes of IBD. Smoking and appendectomy is negatively associated with UC, but they are aggravating factors for CD. A westernized high fat diet, full of refined carbohydrates is strongly associated with the development of IBD, contrary to a high in fruit, vegetables and polyunsaturated fatty acid-3 diet that is protective against these diseases. High intake of nonsteroidal antiinflammatory drug and oral contraceptive pills as well as the inadequacy of vitamin D leads to an increased risk for IBD and a more malignant course of disease. Moreover, other factors such as air pollution, psychological factors, sleep disturbances and exercise influence the development and the course of IBD. Epigenetic mechanism like DNA methylation, histone modification and altered expression of miR NAS could explain the connection between genes and environmental factors in triggering the development of IBD.

The modern TSs (total stations) have reached a very high level in the provided reading and reliability (accuracy and precision) of their measurements. The evolution of the digital technology has helped in this direction. Thus, the TSs can support all requirements for the stake out and monitoring of modern survey engineering and constructions projects. Their complicated manufacturing process and the sensitivity of their components require gauging, adjusting and calibration at certain time intervals. This appears to be the only way in order to assure the precision of measurements provided by the manufacturer and the reliability of the works they are used for. The goal of this paper is to propose a method for the estimation of the gauging time interval for modern TSs, which could be used by any user. More specifically, the indispensable need for the TSs gauging is elevated and documented. All the parameters that influence their operation are registered. A model expressed by a scale of grades is defined, leading thus to an equation for the calculation of the time interval for the next needed gauging and calibration.

Psoriasis has been lately seen as a potential systemic inflammatory disease associated with a range of comorbidities exhibiting an overlapping pathology and presenting a great social health impact such as cardiovascular disease and metabolic diseases,including *** tissue is considered a genuine endocrine organ producing a variety of bioactive adipocytokines,like leptin,adiponectin,resistin and visfatin,participating in physiological and pathological processes,such as energy balance,insulin sensitivity and resistance,immunity,inflammation,hematopoiesis and *** could serve as a missing link in the association between psoriasis,obesity and metabolic *** chronic inflammatory disease states such as psoriasis,adipocytokines may be implicated in psoriasis onset,progression,severity as well as in the pathogenesis of *** serum adipocytokine levels in the future may be useful in predicting psoriasis severity,progression,treatment outcome and risk of any *** to decrease pro-inflammatory adipocytokine levels could offer preventive and therapeutic options for improving psoriasis severity and protecting against its *** strategic interventions incorporate increased physical activity,weight control and pharmacologic approaches such as ***,the mechanisms underlying the actions of adipocytokines in psoriasis as well as their potential diagnostic,prognostic and/or therapeutic utility require further investigation with larger prospective,longitudinal and mechanistic studies.

The way we learn has changed dramatically in the new millennium. The introduction of e-learning in higher education in the late 1990s has opened Pandora"s Box, and brought radical changes in the way where undergraduate and postgraduate programs are designed and delivered. The rapid developments and popularity of handheld devices such as smart phones and tablet PCs using wireless networks and mobile Internet have marked new developments in higher education, introducing the so-called mobile learning (m-learning). This means that university students can have access to their studies related content, anytime, anywhere in a personalized manner; this is what renders m-learning so popular and fashionable among university students globally. Nevertheless, instructors are now challenged as they have to adopt new pedagogies in learning and teaching. This paper discusses the concept of m-learning, as well as the current developments and challenges related to the major stakeholders (educators and students) in higher education.

Accumulating evidence supports that psoriasis may be a potential multisystem inflammatory disease associated with a range of co-morbidities showing an overlapping pathology and an important health impact such as metabolic *** is associated with an increased risk of obesity,metabolic syndrome(Mets)and diabetes mellitus type 2,following a"dose-response"relationship from mild to severe ***,recent evidence from large prospective studies suggests that obesity constitutes a risk factor for psoriasis and psoriatic ***,a dyslipidemic profile may precede psoriasis *** obesity,Mets and psoriasis,characterized as chronic inflammatory states,stem from a shared underlying pathophysiology exhibiting common genetic predisposition and risk factors such as high caloric intake,physical inactivity and psychological *** weight may potentiate the inflammation of psoriasis through the deregulation of adipocytokines while,at the same time,it may help the development of ***,recent translational data has shown that psoriasis,through increased T-helper inflammatory cytokines in skin and sera,may exert a plethora of effects on insulin regulation and lipid ***-based prospective cohort and longitudinal studies are needed to unravel the association between psoriasis and metabolic *** recognition of the intricate complex interplay between psoriasis and metabolic co-morbidities may help dermatologists to be aware of associated metabolic co-morbidities in order to screen for metabolic diseases and manage holistically and effectively the psoriatic patient.

Special Marking of 3D Networks＇ Points for the Monitoring of Modern Constructions

In order to monitor the deformations of modern constructions a local 3D network was usually being established at the surrounding area. The centering error, of both the instrument and targets, causes significant uncertainties in the determination of the x, y, z coordinates of the network’s points. In order to assure precise centering for both the instrument and targets, not only for the accessible but also for the inaccessible network’s points, a prototype way of marking is being implied. A special semi-permanent portable metallic stand (Photo 1) was manufactured for marking the accessible points. The stand provides forced instrument centering of the order of ±0.1mm. It is light enough to carry, it accelerates and facilitates the centering and leveling of the instrument as well as it eliminates the time needed for the measurements. The applied laboratory checks in order to certify the suitability of its use and the provided accuracy are being described. For the inaccessible points special targets were used. The targets were put in permanent attachments (Photos 7-8), which were also manufactured. Useful conclusions were drawn when these special accessories were used in to a 3D network, which was established for the monitoring of a new football stadium. Two measurement phases were carried out. The first one is with the stadium empty and the second one is when it was crowded (about 32000 people) during a significant football match.

目的:经提出并证实,采用Pro-Argin TM漱口水工艺制成的含有0.8%精氨酸、PVM/MA共聚物、焦磷酸盐和0.05%氟化钠的精氨酸漱口水的作用方式,可利用多种体外技术产生封闭作用。方法:采用定量和定性实验室技术研究这种新型精氨酸漱口水的作用方式。利用共焦激光扫描显微镜检查(CSLM)和原子力显微镜检查(AFM)研究牙本质表面的水合层。化学分析电子光谱学(ESCA)、二次离子质谱学(SIMS)和近红外光谱学(NIR)提供了关于这种漱口水的化学性质的信息。结果:使用精氨酸漱口水后,采用CLSM观察暴露牙本质小管上的水合层的形成。经荧光研究证实,水合层可渗透到牙本质小管内壁。经AFM研究证实,精氨酸漱口水对牙本质表面具有亲合力,这与其粘合性质相一致。NIR表明,使用漱口水数次后,精氨酸会沉积下来,而ESCA/SIMS检测到磷酸基团和有机酸基团的存在,表明PVM/MA共聚物和焦磷酸盐是连同精氨酸一起沉积下来的。结论:研究表明:富含精氨酸层连同来自于含有0.8%精氨酸、PVM/MA共聚物、焦磷酸盐和0.05%氟化钠的无酒精漱口水的共聚物和磷酸盐离子一起沉积下来后,可封闭牙本质表面。
