Identification and Mapping of Essential Fish Habitats Using Remote Sensing and GIS on Lake victoria, Kenya

Fisheries in Lake victoria have been threatened by declining fish stocks and diversity, environmental degradation due to increased input of pollutants, industrial and municipal waste, overfishing and use of unapproved fishing methods, infestation by aquatic weeds especially water hyacinth, de-oxygenation and a reduction in the quantity and quality of water. Remote sensing and GIS are essential tools in detection of fishing grounds which is important in providing fish sustainability for human beings and allows fishing grounds detection at minimal cost and optimizes effort. This research tends to identify the most favorable both environmentally and ecologically satisfactory factors which favor fish breeding and growth. The main aim of the study was to identify habitat variables that promote fish breeding and growth to maturity including the extraction of environmental variables from Landsat 8 images for the study period and using suitability index derived from fishery data. The study concentrated on establishing suitability ratings in different parts of Lake Victoria using lake surface temperature and chlorophyll-a levels. The study was conducted for months;January, May and December 2019 on Lake Victoria (limited by the availability of recent data). The factors were analysed and the favorable regions mapped satisfying the conditions for fish breeding. The output obtained illustrated the availability of suitable and habitable zones within the lake using satellite imagery and the suitability index. The fish catch data and satellite derived variables were used to determine habitat suitability indices for fish during January, May and December 2019. Constraints on Dynamical Dark Energy with Precision Cosmological Data

We present a Dark Energy (DE) model based on a scalar field with an inverse power law potential (IPL) v(∅)=M4+n∅−n. We consider three different models n=1/2, n=3/4 and n=1 and we vary the value of M and the initial amount of energy density ω∅at the scale factor ac. We obtain a time dependent equation of state (EoS) , with w∅=1/3 at early times for a scale factor ac with a steep transition to w∅=1 at , , , lasting a long period of time and a subsequent descent w∅=-1 to for to finally grow to w∅= -0.906, w∅=-0.932, w∅=-0.924 for n=1/2, n=3/4 and n=1 respectively. The values of M and ω∅(ac) are M(ev)= 4.63,127.31,2465.46 and ω∅(ac)=0.038,0.148,0.227 for n= 1/2, n= 3/4 and n=1 respectively. We show the differences in the evolution of H, the CMB and Matter power spectra, and the redshift space distortion (RSD)parameter. Precision cosmological data allow us to test the dynamics of Dark Energy and we obtain in all three cases a reduction of ?compared to ∧CDM with and an equivalent fit for CMB and SNIa data.

Bicuspid Aortic valve Disease in Turner Syndrome: A Meta-Analysis of Prevalence

Turner syndrome patients partially or completely lack the X chromosome. 1 - 2500 female live births are affected. Clinical features include webbed neck, short stature, broad chest etc. Bicuspid aortic valve disease (BAv) occurs in more than 30% of Turner syndrome patients causing significant morbidity and mortality. We aimed to establish a more reliable estimate of the prevalence of BAv in Turner syndrome. PubMed, Embase and PsycINFo databases were searched until 2022. Review Manager (RevMan 5.4.1) and the JASP software (0.16.00) were used for meta-analysis. 15 studies with a total of 3189 patients were combined. The pooled prevalence of BAv in Turner syndrome was 22.0% (95% CI: 15.0% - 29.0%). Sub group analysis by 45, X0 karyotype and age had prevalence of 24.0% and 8% respectively. The studies had high heterogeneity and possible publication biases. In summary, the study established that the prevalence of BAv in Turner syndrome patients diagnosed by echocardiogram, CT and MRI scans, is 22.0%, and 24% in patients with true monosomy 45, X0 karyotypes. Routine BAv exam should pay particular attention to monosomy 45, X0 karyotype patients, and where possible, CT and MRI should always accompany echocardiography for BAv screening, especially for pediatrics.

Effect of Gum Arabic as Partial Replacement of Cement on the Durability Properties of Compressed Laterite Blocks

Compressed stabilized earth blocks are the innovation of building materials replacing the earth blocks commonly called adobe. Common stabilizers (cement and lime) have been found to be expensive and harmful to the environment. Finding a natural, available, environmentally friendly stabilizer is vital. The objective of this study was therefore to assess the effects of gum Arabic (GA) as binder on the durability properties of laterite blocks. Compressed laterite blocks were stabilized with 2% and 6% respectively as total percentage of binders in the blocks (cement and/or GA). The results showed that GA improved the abrasion and drop resistances of compressed blocks. It has been found that the abrasion resistance of compressed blocks increased with the increase of GA content and the decrease of cement content. For instance, the mass abraded away of blocks stabilized with cement only was reduced up to 95.18% when GA was used to partially replace cement. As for drop test, the higher the content of GA the higher the resistance of blocks to drop.

Brain MRI Findings in Infantile Spasm: outcome Correlations in a Patient Cohort

Background: Infantile spasm is a type of pediatric seizure often associated with a negative prognosis. The aim of this study was to evaluate the role of Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) in categorization and neurodevelopmental outcomes in children with infantile spasm. Materials and Methods: A retrospective study of the clinical charts and MRI findings of infants diagnosed with infantile spasm between December 2007 and February 2014. Results: A total of 26 children (16 males;1.6/1) were included: 8 of unknown etiology and 18 with a genetic/structural-metabolic causes. Unknown etiology cases revealed normal brain MRI in 5/8 (62.5%). In the genetic/ structural-metabolic group, only 2/18 (11.1%) had normal imaging. Abnormal imaging findings significantly correlated with genetic/structural-metabolic infantile spasm which had unfavorable neurodevelopmental outcome. Conclusion: Neuroimaging conveys substantial information to the further categorization of children with infantile spasm, providing not only relevant information of the underlying cause but also the prediction of the neurodevelopmental outcome.

Intake,digestibility and nitrogen utilization in cattle fed tropical forage and supplemented with protein in the rumen,abomasum,or both

Background： There is little information in the tropics with regard the comparative understanding of how an increased nitrogen supply in the rumen or in the intestines affects efficiency of nitrogen utilization in cattle. This study evaluated the effects of supplementation with nitrogenous compounds in the rumen, abomasum, or both on intake, digestibility and the characteristics of nitrogen utilization in cattle fed tropical forage. Four rumen- and abomasum-fistulated Nellore bulls （227 ± 11 kg） were used. Four treatments were evaluated： control, ruminal supplementation （230 g/d of supplemental protein in the rumen）, abomasal supplementation （230 g/d of supplemental protein in the abomasum）, and ruminal and abomasal supplementation （115 g/d protein in both the rumen and the abomasum）. The basal forage diet consisted of Tifton 85 hay with a crude protein （CP） level of 78.4 g/kg dry matter. Casein was used as a supplement. The experiment was conducted using a 4 x 4 Latin square. Results： There were no differences between the treatments （P 〉 0.10） with regard to forage intake. The intake and tota digestibility of CP increased （P 〈 0.01） with supplementation. The nitrogen balance in the body increased （P 〈 0.01） and muscle protein mobilization decreased （P 〈 0.01） with supplementation, regardless of the supplementation site. The efficiency of nitrogen utilization did not differ among the treatments （P 〉 0.10）. Conclusions： The supplementation of cattle fed tropical forage with protein in the rumen, abomasum, or both similarly increased the nitrogen accretion in animal, which reflects improvements on nitrogen status in animal body.

Seronegative disseminated Bartonella spp. infection in an immunocompromised patient

An 11 year old, hispanic girl with a history of B-cell acute lymphoblastic leukemia was admitted to the hospital for symptoms compatible with Bartonella henselae infection. The first molecularly diagnosed case of disseminated Bartonella henselae infection was reported in an immunocompromised patient in Lima, Peru. The analysis was confirmed by Polymerase Chain Reaction and automated sequencing of a liver biopsy sample, even though the serologic tests were negative. In conclusion, Bartonella spp. infection should have a particular diagnostic consideration in immunocompromised patients with fever of unknown origin and further investigation regarding the patient's past exposures with cats should also be elicited.
