The circadian timing system plays a key role in orchestrating lipid metabolism. In concert with the solar cycle, the circadian system ensures that daily rhythms in lipid absorption, storage, and transport are temporally coordinated with rest-activity and feeding cycles. At the cellular level, genes involved in lipid synthesis and fatty acid oxidation are rhythmically activated and repressed by core clock proteins in a tissue-specific manner. Consequently, loss of clock gene function or misalignment of circadian rhythms with feeding cycles （e.g., in shift work） results in impaired lipid homeostasis. Herein, we review recent progress in circadian rhythms research using lipidomics, i.e., large-scale profiling of lipid metabolites, to characterize circadian-regulated lipid pathways in mammals. In mice, novel regulatory circuits involved in fatty acid metabolism have been identified in adipose tissue, liver, and muscle. Extensive diversity in circadian regulation of plasma lipids has also been revealed in humans using lipidomics and other metabolomics approaches. In future studies, lipidomics platforms will be increasingly used to better understand the effects of genetic variation, shift work, food intake, and drugs on circadian-regulated lipid pathways and metabolic health.

The possibility of temperature dependent sex determination makes it important to evaluate sex ratios in captive breeding programs of threatened tortoises. We assessed the sex ratio of juvenile Burmese Star Tortoises Geochelone platynota by direct observation of their gonads through an endoscope in the captive breeding program of the Behler Chelonian Center （BCC） in California. The gonads of small juvenile G. platynota are thin and elongate, and fixed to the dorsal part of body cavity, with ovaries appearing as transparent sheaths with some oocytes visible and testes appearing as small, transparent, thin, sausage-like structures with a net of fine blood vessels on the surface. With growth, ovaries expand and masses of pre-vitellogenic follicles appear on the surface. Testes are transparent in small juveniles and, with growth, turn pinkish-white and then yellowish, with tubuli structures visible through a thin, transparent theca containing a network of fine blood vessels. Egg incubation temperatures were not rigorously monitored, but a temperature of 28.9 ℃ produced a heavily male biased sex ratio whereas a temperature of 30 ℃ produced a balanced sex ratio. This suggests that G. platynota has temperature dependent sex determination.

Wind power is one of the fastest-growing renewable energy sectors instrumental in the ongoing decarbonizationprocess. However, wind turbines are subjected to a wide range of dynamic loads which can cause more frequentfailures and downtime periods, leading to ever-increasing attention to effective Condition Monitoring *** this paper, we propose a novel unsupervised deep anomaly detection framework to detect anomalies in windturbines based on SCADA data. We introduce a promising neural architecture, namely a Graph ConvolutionalAutoencoder for Multivariate Time series, to model the sensor network as a dynamical functional graph. Thisstructure improves the unsupervised learning capabilities of Autoencoders by considering individual sensormeasurements together with the nonlinear correlations existing among signals. On this basis, we developeda deep anomaly detection framework that was validated on 12 failure events occurred during 20 months ofoperation of four wind turbines. The results show that the proposed framework successfully detects anomaliesand anticipates SCADA alarms by outperforming other two recent neural approaches.

Microneedle technologies have the potential for expanding the capabilities of wearable health monitoring from physiology to *** paper presents the fabrication of silicon hollow microneedles by a deep-reactive ion etching(DRIE)process,with the aim of exploring the feasibility of microneedle-based in-vivo monitoring of biomarkers in skin *** devices shall have the ability to allow the sensing elements to be integrated either within the needle borehole or on the backside of the device,relying on capillary filling of the borehole with dermal interstitial fluid(ISF)for transporting clinically relevant biomarkers to the sensor *** modified DRIE process was utilized for the anisotropic etching of circular holes with diameters as small as 30μm to a depth of>300μm by enhancing ion bombardment to efficiently remove the fluorocarbon passivation ***,isotropic wet and/or dry etching was utilized to sharpen the needle due to faster etching at the pillar top,achieving tip radii as small as 5μ*** sharp microneedles have been demonstrated to be sufficiently robust to penetrate porcine skin without needing any aids such as an impact-insertion applicator,with the needles remaining mechanically intact after repetitive *** capillary filling of DRIE-etched through-wafer holes with water has also been demonstrated,showing the feasibility of use to transport the analyte to the target sites.

The response of a 14 MeV neutron-based prompt gamma neutron activation analysis (PGNAA) system,*** prompt gamma-rays count rate and the average thermal neutron flux,is studied with a large concrete sample and with a homogeneous large sample,which is made of polyethylene and metal with various concentrations of hydrogen and cadmium using the MCNP-5 (Monte Carlo N-Particle) *** average thermal neutron flux is determined by the analysis of the prompt gamma-rays using the thermal neutron activation of hydrogen in the sample,and the thermal and fast neutron activation of carbon graphite irradiation chamber of the *** results demonstrated that the graphite irradiation chamber of the PGNAA-system fairly operates,and is useful to estimate the average thermal neutron flux of large samples with various compositions irradiated by 14 MeV neutrons.
