Magnetic activated carbon for the removal of methyl orange from water via adsorption and Fenton-like degradation

Water pollution caused by organic dyes is a critical environmental *** activated carbon(AC)is commonly used for dye adsorption,its effectiveness is limited by challenges in separation and *** address these limitations,a convenient recyclable magnetic activated carbon(MAC)was fabricated via co-precipitation and calcination method,serving as adsorbent and catalyst for methyl orange(MO)removal through a Fenton-like degradation *** techniques,including XRD,FTIR,SEM and TEM,confirmed that Fe_(3)O_(4) nanoparticles(10–20 nm)were uniformly dispersed on AC *** MAC maintaining a high surface area(997 m^(2)/g)and pore volume(0.795 cm^(3)/g)and exhibited superparamagnetic properties with a saturated magnetization of 5.52 emu/g,enabling effective separation from aqueous solutions by *** adsorption studies revealed that MO adsorption onto MAC followed pseudo-second-order kinetic and Freundlich isotherm model,with a maximum adsorption capacity of 205 mg/g at 25℃.Thermodynamic analysis showed that the adsorption process was spontaneous and *** degradation of MO and in-situ regeneration of MAC were achieved via Fenton-like reaction using sodium persulfate(PS).Under a PS concentration of 9 mmol/L,the MO removal efficiency near 95%after 60 min,with a total organic carbon(TOC)reduction of 83.1%.The reaction of Fe_(3)O_(4) and oxygen functional groups on AC surface with PS facilitated the generation of SO_(4)^(·-),thereby enhancing catalytic degradation of *** degradation efficiency improved as the temperature increased from 25℃ to 45℃.Cycle tests demonstrated that the MO removal efficiency of MAC remained above 90%after 5 cycles of ***,this study highlights the potential of MAC for efficient removal of organic dyes from water through the coupling of adsorption and Fenton-like degradation,providing a promising solution for addressing water pollution challenges.

Allogeneic hematopoietic stem cell transplantation(aHSCT)is a standard validated therapy for patients suffering from malignant and nonmalignant hematological ***,aHSCT procedures are limited by potentially life-threatening complications,and one of the most serious complications is acute graft-versus-host disease(GVHD).During the last decades,DNA sequencing technologies were used to investigate relationship between composition or function of the gut microbiome and disease *** if it remains unclear whether these microbiome alterations are causative or secondary to the presence of the disease,they may be useful for diagnosis,prevention and therapy in aHSCT ***,we summarized the most recent findings of the association between human gut microbiome changes and acute GVHD in patients receiving aHSCT.

Traffic accidents on highways are attributed mostly to the”invisibility”of oncoming traffic and road signs.”Speeding”also causes drivers to reduce the effective radius of the vehicle path in the curve,thus trespassing into the lane of the oncoming *** main aim of this paper was to develop a multisensory obstacle-detection device that is affordable,easy to implement and easy to maintain to reduce the risk of road accidents at blind *** ultrasonic sensor module with a maximum measuring angle of 15◦was used to ensure that a significant portion of the lane was detected at the blind *** sensor covered a minimum effective area of 0.5 m2 of the road for obstacle *** light was employed to signify caution while negotiating the blind *** photoresistors(PRs)were used as sensors because of the limited number of pins on the microcontroller(Arduino Uno).However,the device developed for this project achieved obstacle detection at blind corners at relatively low cost and can be accessed by all road *** real-world applications,the use of piezoelectric accelerometers(vibration sensors)instead of PR sensors would be more desirable in order to detect not only cars but also two-wheelers.

This paper is devoted to the inverse design of strained graphene surfaces for the control of electrons in the semi-classical optical-like *** that charge carriers are described by the Dirac equation in curved-space and exploiting the fact that wave propagation can be described by ray-optics in this regime,a general computational strategy is proposed in order to find strain fields associated with a desired effective refractive index *** latter is first determined by solving semi-classical trajectories and by optimizing a chosen objective functional using a genetic ***,the graded refractive index corresponding to the strain field is obtained by using its connection to the metric component in isothermal *** coordinates are evaluated via numerical quasiconformal transformations by solving the Beltrami equation with a finite volume *** graphene surface deformation is finally optimized,also using a genetic algorithm,to reproduce the desired index of *** analytical results and numerical experiments are performed to illustrate the methodology.

Bio-inspired Topological Skeleton for the Analysis of Quadruped Kinematic Gait

In bio-inspired design activities, nature is a basis of knowledge. Over the last twenty years, many solutions to measure and analyze human or animal gaits have been developed （VICON system, X-ray radiography...）. Although, these methods are becoming more and more accurate, they are quite expensive, long to set up and not easily portable. In this paper, a method called the bio-inspired topological skeleton is proposed in order to complement the classic videography process and to enable animal gait analysis. A new predictive kinematic model with closed-loops of an unguligrade quadruped is suggested. This kinematic model includes three segments per leg and takes into account the scapula movements. The proposed method allows us to improve the accuracy of the kinematic input data measured from a single video including an additional artefact. To show the benefits of this method, joint parameters that are difficult to measure are derived symbolically from the kinematic model and compared with experimental data.

Incorporating travel time reliability in predicting the likelihood of severe crashes on arterial highways using non-parametric random-effect regression

Travel time reliability(TTR) modeling has gain attention among researchers’ due to its ability to represent road user satisfaction as well as providing a predictability of a trip travel *** this significant effort,its impact on the severity of a crash is not well *** study analyzes the effect of TTR and other variables on the probability of the crash severity occurring on arterial *** address the unobserved heterogeneity problem,two random-effect regressions were applied;the Dirichlet random-effect(DRE)and the traditional random-effect(TRE) logistic *** difference between the two models is that the random-effect in the DRE is non-parametrically specified while in the TRE model is parametrically *** Markov Chain Monte Carlo simulations were adopted to infer the parameters’ posterior distributions of the two developed *** four-year police-reported crash data and travel speeds from Northeast Florida,the analysis of goodness-of-fit found the DRE model to best fit the ***,it was used in studying the influence of TTR and other variables on crash *** DRE model findings suggest that TTR is statistically significant,at 95 percent credible intervals,influencing the severity level of a crash.A unit increases in TTR reduces the likelihood of a severe crash occurrence by 25 ***,among the significant variables,alcohol/drug impairment was found to have the highest impact in influencing the occurrence of severe *** significant factors included traffic volume,weekends,speed,work-zone,land use,visibility,seatbelt usage,segment length,undivided/divided highway,and age.

On the isolatitude property of the rHEALPix Discrete Global Grid System

Digital Earth frameworks provide a way to integrate,analyze,and visualize large volumes of geospatial data,and the foundation of such frameworks is the Discrete Global Grid System(DGGS).One approach in particular,the rHEALPix DGGS,has the rare property of distribution of cell nuclei along rings of constant latitude(or isolatitude rings).However,this property is yet to be *** this paper,we extend existing work on the rHEALPix DGGS by proposing a method to determine the isolatitude ring on which the nucleus of a given cell falls by converting a cell identifier to isolatitude ring without recourse to geodetic *** addition,we present an efficient method to calculate the geodetic latitude of a cell’s nucleus via its associated isolatitude ***,we use the proposed methods to demonstrate how the isolatitude property of the rHEALPix DGGS can be utilized to facilitate latitudinal data analysis at multiple resolutions.

Projecting future precipitation change across the semi-arid Borana lowland,southern Ethiopia

Climate change caused by past,current,and future greenhouse gas emissions has become a major concern for scientists in the field in many countries and regions of the *** study modelled future precipitation change by downscaling a set of large-scale climate predictor variables(predictors)from the second generation Canadian Earth System Model(CanESM2)under two Representative Concentration Pathway(RCP)emission scenarios(RCP4.5 and RCP8.5)in the semi-arid Borana lowland,southern *** Statistical DownScaling Model(SDSM)4.2.9 was employed to downscale and project future precipitation change in the middle(2036-2065;2050s)and far(2066-2095;2080s)future at the local *** precipitation observations from eight meteorological stations stretching from 1981 to 1995 and 1996 to 2005 were used for the model calibration and validation,respectively,and the time period of 1981-2018 was considered and used as the baseline period to analyze future precipitation *** results revealed that the surface-specific humidity and the geopotential height at 500 hPa were the preferred large-scale *** to the middle future(2050s),precipitation showed a much greater increase in the far future(2080s)under both RCP4.5 and RCP8.5 scenarios at all meteorological stations(except Teletele and Dillo stations).At Teltele station,the projected annual precipitation will decrease by 26.53%(2050s)and 39.45%(2080s)under RCP4.5 scenario,and 34.99%(2050s)and 60.62%(2080s)under RCP8.5 ***,the main rainy period would shift from spring(March to May)to autumn(September to November)at Dehas,Dire,Moyale,and Teltele stations,but for Arero and Yabelo stations,spring would consistently receive more precipitation than *** can be concluded that future precipitation in the semi-arid Borana lowland is predicted to differ under the two climate scenarios(RCP4.5 and RCP8.5),showing an increasing trend at most meteorological *** information could be he
