Climate change caused by past,current,and future greenhouse gas emissions has become a major concern for scientists in the field in many countries and regions of the *** study modelled future precipitation change by downscaling a set of large-scale climate predictor variables(predictors)from the second generation Canadian Earth System Model(CanESM2)under two Representative Concentration Pathway(RCP)emission scenarios(RCP4.5 and RCP8.5)in the semi-arid Borana lowland,southern *** Statistical DownScaling Model(SDSM)4.2.9 was employed to downscale and project future precipitation change in the middle(2036-2065;2050s)and far(2066-2095;2080s)future at the local *** precipitation observations from eight meteorological stations stretching from 1981 to 1995 and 1996 to 2005 were used for the model calibration and validation,respectively,and the time period of 1981-2018 was considered and used as the baseline period to analyze future precipitation *** results revealed that the surface-specific humidity and the geopotential height at 500 hPa were the preferred large-scale *** to the middle future(2050s),precipitation showed a much greater increase in the far future(2080s)under both RCP4.5 and RCP8.5 scenarios at all meteorological stations(except Teletele and Dillo stations).At Teltele station,the projected annual precipitation will decrease by 26.53%(2050s)and 39.45%(2080s)under RCP4.5 scenario,and 34.99%(2050s)and 60.62%(2080s)under RCP8.5 ***,the main rainy period would shift from spring(March to May)to autumn(September to November)at Dehas,Dire,Moyale,and Teltele stations,but for Arero and Yabelo stations,spring would consistently receive more precipitation than *** can be concluded that future precipitation in the semi-arid Borana lowland is predicted to differ under the two climate scenarios(RCP4.5 and RCP8.5),showing an increasing trend at most meteorological *** information could be he

The existing discourses on the Russia-Ukraine war mainly focus on the humanitar-ian crisis in Ukraine and the implications for the global *** is a lack of policy and scholarly attention to how the war threatens the prospects for realising Sustainable Development Goals(SDGs).Underpinned by a critical document analy-sis of secondary sources available in academic and grey literature and focusing on Africa,the article explores various global challenges ensuing from the *** dem-onstrates how such challenges impact prospects for achieving SDGs in *** the first two SDGs as an example,the study found that with the disruption of the global supply chain by the war and the international sanctions imposed on Russia,Africa now experiences food commodity and energy shortages,soaring inflation,and commodity price hikes which now threatens to worsen poverty and *** article recommends that Africa prioritise structural change and regional cooperation,reconsidering the global financial system and how development finance is structured and maintaining a steady commitment to building *** research could be focused on the effectiveness of non-sanctions-based conflict resolutions.

Climate change induces profound changes in mountain territories that affect the activities pursued *** is one activity that is strongly impacted by these *** research on tourism in mountain regions has focused on winter sports tourism,but glacier tourism,a summer activity,is also severely affected by climate change-induced phenomena,including glacier retreat and other geomorphological *** that Alpine glacier tourism has been pursued since the 18th century and glaciers have been changing throughout this period,this article aims to examine the adaptations implemented by glacier tourism operators since the activity’s *** analysis of historical documents,glaciological surveys and semi-structured interviews,this paper reveals how tourism activities around the Mer de Glace(the largest French glacier)have been impacted by glacier fluctuations since the first visit to the area in *** study reveals that these developments have mainly been driven by glacier retreat and associated paraglacial *** recently,the shortening of the period of snow cover on the glacier has also impacted tourism *** of the adaptation strategies implemented by tourism operators during the period in question are found to be reactive,consisting in the installation of safety equipment,the renovation of access points or the building of new structures to allow tourist activities to continue despite the consequences of glacier *** strategies,such as the adoption of new activities by workers previously specialised in another,are identified that could be considered transformative strategies,although these were only adopted by workers when their activity was no longer *** analysis of materials from 1741 to the present also reveals that the recent impacts of climate change on glacier tourism are much more significant and diverse than those produced by past ***,it is important that stakeholders take suit

Mount Cameroon volcano has erupted several times in the 20 th Century with documented eruptions in 1909,1922,1954,1959,1982,1999 and *** of historic volcanism is represented by several older lava flows and lahar deposits around the flanks of the *** study aims to assess the evolution of Mount Cameroon volcanism through its eruptive history via interpretation of mineralogical,whole rock geochemical and Pb,Sr,Nd isotope data generated from historic and recent lava *** this study,samples were collected from the 1959,1982,1999 and 2000 eruptions and from several historic eruption sites with unknown eruption *** of major and trace element data demonstrates that Mount Cameroon is geotectonically associated with within-plate Ocean Island Basalt *** than 90%of the studied historic lavas(n=29)classify as tephrites and basanites whereas the modern lavas(n=38)are predominantly trachybasalts,demonstrating evolution from primitive to evolved lavas over time typically in response to fractional ***,the lavas are porphyritic with main mineral phases being olivine,clinopyroxene,plagioclase feldspars and Fe-Ti-Cr *** 1982 lavas are predominantly aphyric and dominated by lath-shaped flow-aligned plagioclase in the *** chemistry shows variable forsterite compositions from *** vary from diopside through augite to titanaugite with chemical composition ranges from Wo45En32Fs7 to *** feldspars vary from labradorite(An567 O)to bytownite(An80-87).For the Fe-Ti-Cr oxides,calculated ulvospinel component shows a wide variation from ***-normative classification on the Di-Ol-Hy-Qz-Ne system shows that all Mount Cameroon lavas are nepheline-normative(Ne ranges from4.20 wt.%to 11.45 wt.%).Radiogenic isotope data demonstrate that Mount Cameroon lavas are HIMU(or high μ=238U/204Pb),characterized by 206Pb/204Pb=20.19-20.46,207Pb/204Pb=15.63-15.69,208Pb/204

Effects of meteorological conditions and topography on the bioaccumulation of PAHs and metal elements by native lichen(Xanthoria parietina)

The bioaccumulation of PAHs and metal elements in the indigenous lichens Xanthoria parietina was monitored during two years at a quarterly frequency,in 3 sites of contrasted anthropic *** impact of the meteorological factors(temperature,relative humidity,rainfall,wind speed)was first estimated through principal component analysis,and then by stepwise multilinear regressions to include wind *** pollutants levels reflected the proximity of atmospheric emissions,in particular from a large industrial *** humidity and mild temperatures,and in a lower extent low wind speed and rainfall,also favored higher concentration *** contributions of these meteorological aspects became minor when including wind direction,especially when approaching major emission *** bioaccumulation integration time towards meteorological variations was on a seasonal basis(1–2 months)but the wind direction and thus local emissions also relied on a longer time scale(12 months).This showed that the contribution of meteorological conditions may be prevalent in remote places,while secondary in polluted areas,and should be definitely taken into account regarding long-term lichen biomonitoring and inter-annual *** the same time,a quadruple sampling in each site revealed a high homogeneity among supporting tree species and *** resulting uncertainty,including sampling,preparation and analysis was below 30%when comfortable analytical conditions were ***,the occurrence of unexpected events such as a major forest fire,permitted to evaluate that this type of short,although intense,events did not have a strong influence on PAH and metals bioaccumulation by lichen.

Metabolic-dysfunction associated steatotic liver disease(MASLD),formerly known as non-alcoholic fatty liver disease(NAFLD)(1),is characterized by the accumulation of fat in the liver cells,independent of excessive alcohol consumption and has emerged as the most prevalent chronic liver condition in Western countries,underscoring a significant public health concern(2).The progression of MASLD to advanced fibrosis,marked by excessive extracellular matrix deposition and scar tissue formation,is a critical stage in MASLD natural history that significantly increases the risk of liver-related complications mortality(3).Non-invasive tests(NITs),such as liver stiffness measurement(LSM)with transient elastography(TE)and serum biomarkers,have gained prominence for assessing liver fibrosis in patients with suspected/confirmed NAFLD,offering a safer and less invasive alternative to liver biopsy(4).

This paper is devoted to the assessment of ship maneuvering simulation using different propeller models with the focus on a simplified propeller model that represents the action of the propeller by body force and uses propeller performance curve to determine propeller loading during ship *** are also performed with an actual propeller approach with which the propeller rotation is simulated directly with the Reynolds averaged Navier-Stokes equation(RANSE)*** time accurate simulations using sliding grid and rotating frame approximations have been performed for *** zigzag and turning circle maneuvers in calm water have been simulated for two different ship models,namely the ONR tumblehome(ONRT)test case and the KRISO(Korea Research Institute of Ship and Ocean)Container Ship(KCS)test *** ship motion is compared with measurement data to assess the accuracy of the numerical prediction using RANSE computations with different propeller models.
