A novel, simple approach to the synthesis of macrocyclic Schiff base ligand resulted from the condensation of bisaldehyde and ethylenediamine was prepared (7, 8, 15, 16, 17, 18-hexahydrodibenzo (a, g) (14) annulene) (L) and its complexes were synthesized and characterized using different physicochemical studies as elemental analysis, FT-IR, 1H NmR, conductivity, magnetic properties, thermal analysis, and their biological activities. The spectroscopic data of the complexes suggest their 1:1 complexe structures which are investigated by elemental analysis, FT-IR, 1H NmR, conductivity, magnetic properties, thermal analysis, and their biological activities. The spectroscopic studies suggested the octahedral structure for the all complexes. The spectroscopic data of the complexes suggest their structure in which (N2O2) group act as a tetradentate ligand and two chlorides as monodentate ligands. Also electronic spectra and magnetic susceptibility measurements indicate octahedral structure of these complexes. The synthesized Schiff base and its metal complexes also were screened for their antibacterial and antifungal activity. Here we report the effect of a neutral chelating ligand on the complexation with iron to determine it in different types of natural water using recovery test. The activity data show that the metal complexes to be more potent/ antibacterial than the parent Schiff base ligand against one or more bacterial species.

Non-alcoholic fatty liver disease(NAFLD) is now the most frequent chronic liver disease that occurs across all age groups and is recognized to occur in 14%-30% of the general population, representing a serious and growing clinical problem due to the growing prevalence of obesity and overweight. Histologically, it resembles alcoholic liver injury but occurs in patients who deny significant alcohol consumption. NAFLD encompasses a spectrum of conditions, ranging from benign hepatocellular steatosisto inflammatory nonalcoholic steatohepatitis, fibrosis, and cirrhosis. The majority of hepatocellular lipids are stored as triglycerides, but other lipid metabolites, such as free fatty acids, cholesterol, and phospholipids, may also be present and play a role in disease progression. NAFLD is associated with obesity and insulin resistance and is considered the hepatic manifestation of the metabolic syndrome, a combination of medical conditions including type 2 diabetes mellitus, hypertension, hyperlipidemia, and visceral adiposity. Confirmation of the diagnosis of NAFLD can usually be achieved by imaging studies; however, staging the disease requires a liver biopsy. Current treatment relies on weight loss and exercise, although various insulin-sensitizing agents, antioxidants and medications appear promising. The aim of this review is to highlight the current information regarding epidemiology, diagnosis, and management of NAFLD as well as new information about pathogenesis, diagnosis and management of this disease.

This study investigates if the anti-tumor effect of Pterostilbene in the SKOV3 ovarian cancer(OC)cell line involves inhibition of cell metabolism and tested in this effect involves modulating AmPK and Akt-induced regulation of ***,SKOV3 cells were cultured in the humidified conditions in DmEm media for 24 h with or without increasing concentration of ***,the cells were incubated with Pterostilbene(IC_(50)=50μm)under similar conditions with or without pre-incubation with Dorsomorphin,an AmPK *** a dose-dependent manner,Pterostilbene inhibited SKOV3 cell survival and increased their lysate levels of lactate dehydrogenase(LDH)and single-stranded DNA(ssDNA).When SKOV3 cells were treated with 50μm Pterostilbene,Pterostilbene significantly suppressed cell migration and invasion,reduced lysate levels of lactic acid and the optical density of Oil Red O staining,and increased lysate glucose *** also increased levels of malondialdehyde(mDA),reactive oxygen species(ROS),and induced intrinsic cell apoptosis by upregulating protein levels of Bax and cleaved caspase-3 and reducing protein levels of ***,Pterostilbene reduced mRNA levels of sterol regulatory element-binding protein 1(SREBP-1),fatty acid synthase(FAS),acetyl CoA carboxylase-1(ACC-1),and AmP-activated protein kinase(AmPK).Furthermore,Pterostilbene increased the protein levels of p-AmPK,p-p53,p-raptor,p-TSC-2,but significantly decreased protein levels of p-Akt,p-TSC-2,p-mTOR,p-S6K1,and *** with Dorsomorphin(CC)abolished all the anti-tumorigenesis effects afforded by Pterostilbene and prevented Pterostilbene-induced phosphorylation of Akt,p53,and *** conclusion,the tumorsuppressive effect of Pterostilbene in SKOV3 cells involves the induction of ROS and inhibition of dysregulation cell metabolism mainly due to AmPK-induced Akt-dependent or independent suppression of mTOR.

Historical Satellite Data Analysis to Enhance Climate Change Adaption and Hydrologic models in Egypt

Egypt suffers from the impacts of climate change. Adaption plans should solve the shortage in water resources and increase the use of renewable energy. Detailed data on rainfall as non conventional water and detailed data on potential renewable energy are important. The added value of this research is to investigate the suitability of satellite data locally in North Sinai in Egypt. The Tropical Rainfall measuring mission (TRmm) satellites and available data from ground rain gauges are studied at North Sinai of Egypt. Local multiplication factors and correlation equations on a monthly basis were developed based on short term historical data. General equation based on short term data was developed to enhance TRmm data for the rainy season to minimize spatial and temporal errors. This equation would be very useful, especially in the ungauged areas in North Sinai to adjust TRmm rainfall data. TRmm data are spatially distributed, so it enhances the hydrology models for runoff estimation. This runoff could be used as non conventional water resource. The runoff was estimated in the RasSudr area in the 2010 storm to be 3.6 (m3/s). The hydropower of this runoff was estimated and ranged from 15,135 to 57,352 (kWh). The solar energy is studied from (NASA) satellite data. The monthly averaged solar energy was estimated to get possible generated power from the solar panel at locations of rainfall ground stations. The generated solar energy would supply self-sufficient energy for ground stations measuring instruments rather than batteries. The results show that a small solar panel project of 200 (m2) could safe electric network power by generating about 20,385 (kWh/year). The results of this study could help in enhancing adapting plans for climate change and runoff estimation model that needs grid data, especially in the area lacking ground data.

Introduction: Hepatitis C virus (HCV) genotype 4 is the most prevalent in Egypt. Vis-ceral adiposity index (VAI) and (TyG) index are newly developed indices for assess-ment of metabolic syndrome (mS) and insulin resistance (IR). We aimed at comparing their levels in HCV-patients with healthy controls and validate their use for prediction of hepatic histopathological changes. Patient and methods: 78 chronic HCV-infected patients proven by PCR, viral genotyping and hepatic histopathology, and 67 healthy controls were enrolled. Presence of mS, Homeostasis model Assessment for IR esti-mation (HOmA-IR), TyG index, and VAI were assessed. Results: HOmA-IR, TyG and frequency of mS were significantly higher in patients’ group (p p p = 0.002). Conclusion: HCV genotype 4 is significantly associated with mS and increased values of HOmA IR and TyG index. TyG index and VAI are valuable simple indices that could predict the histopathological changes in Egyptian CHC pa-tients.

E-mail security becomes critical issue to research community in the field of information security. Several solutions and standards have been fashioned according to the recent security requirements in order to enhance the e-mail security. Some of the existing enhancements focus on keeping the exchange of data via e-mail in confident and integral way. While the others focus on authenticating the sender and prove that he will not repudiate from his message. This paper will survey various e-mail security solutions. We introduce different models and techniques used to solve and enhance the security of e-mail systems and evaluate each one from the view point of security.

Estimates of the Prevalence of Tobacco Smoking in Egypt

The use of tobacco products constitutes the leading cause of preventable deaths in the world. In Egypt, data on the national prevalence of cigarette and waterpipe smoking are lacking, yet such data are vital to tobacco control efforts. We designed and implemented a sampling method to generate population-based prevalence estimates for tobacco smoking in Egypt. In 2005, a total of 3369 adults ages 18 and above, including 1867 females and 1502 males, participated in the survey. Among males, the national prevalence of former cigarette smoking was 18.1%, and 27.5% reported current smoking. Exclusive current waterpipe smoking was reported by 7.2% of adult males, and a further 3.4% reported smoking both waterpipes and cigarettes. Tobacco smoking was rarely reported by females;among them the national prevalence of current cigarette smoking was 0.3%. This study produced the first robust estimate of the national prevalence of cigarette and waterpipe smoking in Egypt based on a rigorous probability sample. Along with the more recent Global Adult Tobacco Survey, carried out by the World Health Organization in 2009, the results will be useful in assessing smoking trends in Egypt and in evaluating the impacts of recent tobacco control laws.

A Validated High-Performance Thin-Layer Chromatography (Hptlc) method for the Quantitative Determination of Tricin in Two <i>Spergularia</i>Species

A simple, sensitive, precise and robust high-performance thin-layer chromatographic (HPTLC) method for analysis of tricin has been developed and validated for the determination of tricin in genus Spergularia. Analysis of tricin was performed on pre-coated TLC aluminum plates with silica gel as the stationary phase. Linear ascending development was carried out in double twin trough glass chamber saturated with a mobile phase consisting of chloroform: methanol (37:3 v/v). Spectro-densitometric scanning was performed by TLC scanner III (CAmAG) in absorbance mode at the wavelength of 270 nm. The system was found to give compact spots for tricin (Rf value of 0.34 ± 0.04). The linear regression analysis data for the calibration plots showed a good linear relationship with r2 = 0.9981 in the concentration range 2-15 μl with respect to peak area. According to the International Conference on Harmonization (ICH) guidelines, the method was validated for precision, recovery, and robustness. The tricin content quantified from Spergularia marina and S. daiandra was found to be 0.398 mg/100g and 1.642 mg/100g fresh weight, respectively. Statistical analysis of the data showed that the method is reproducible and selective for the estimation of tricin.

Nuclear Factor-Kappa B and Other Oxidative Stress Biomarkers in Serum of Autistic Children

The aim of the present study was to investigate the status of oxidative stress in the serum of children affected with autism spectrum disorder. Twenty autistic children aged 3 to 12 years, were gender and age-matched with 20 typically developing children. Changes in the levels of the redox-sensing transcription factor nuclear factor-kappa B (NF-κB) was measured in serum of autistic children and controls. Other oxidative stress biomarkers such as malondialdehyde, reduced glutathione, total antioxidant capacity, catalase activity, and paraoxonase 1 activity were determined in serum as well. Significant increase was observed in serum NF-κB of autistic children compared to that in controls (by 138.6%). There was also marked increase in malondialdehyde level by 87.3% in autistic patients. meanwhile, there were significant decreases in reduced glutathione (by 24%), catalase activity (by 40.8%), paraoxonase 1 activity (by 36.6%), and total antioxidant capacity (by 36.5%) compared to the control group. These data clearly demonstrate increased oxidative stress in serum of autistic children and suggest that the NF-κB signaling pathway is activated in autism, possibly due to increased oxidative burden.
