Hepatitis C virus(HCV)infection represents a major public health *** C can be cured bytherapy,but many infected individuals are unaware of their *** HCV screening,fast diagnosis and characterization,and hepatic fibrosis staging are highly relevant for controlling transmission,treating infected patients and,consequently,avoiding end-stage liver *** to HCV can be determined with high sensitivity and specificity with currently available third generation serology ***,the use of point-of-care tests can increase HCV screening ***,active HCV infection must be confirmed by direct diagnosis ***,HCV genotyping is required prior to starting any ***,high-volume clinical laboratories use different types of automated platforms,which have simplified sample processing,reduced hands-on-time,minimized contamination risks and human error and ensured full traceability of *** advances have also been made in the field of fibrosis stage assessment with the development of non-invasive methods,such as imaging techniques and serum-based ***,no single test is currently available that is able to completely replace liver *** review focuses on approved commercial tools used to diagnose HCV infection and the recommended hepatic fibrosis staging tests.

Myeloproliferative neoplasms(MPN)are a group of diseases characterized by the clonal proliferation of hematopoietic progenitor or stem *** are clinically classifiable into four main diseases:chronic myeloid leukemia,essential thrombocythemia,polycythemia vera,and primary *** pathologies are closely related to cardio-and cerebrovascular diseases due to the increased risk of arterial thrombosis,the most common underlying cause of acute myocardial *** evidence shows that the classical Virchow triad(hypercoagulability,blood stasis,endothelial injury)might offer an explanation for such ***,patients with MPN might have a higher number and more reactive circulating platelets and leukocytes,a tendency toward blood stasis because of a high number of circulating red blood cells,endothelial injury or overactivation as a consequence of sustained inflammation caused by the neoplastic clonal *** abnormal cancer cells,especially when associated with the JAK2V617F mutation,tend to proliferate and secrete several inflammatory *** sustains a pro-inflammatory state throughout the *** direct consequence is the induction of a pro-thrombotic state that acts as a determinant in favoring both venous and arterial thrombus ***,MPN patients need to be carefully evaluated to be treated not only with cytoreductive treatments but also with cardiovascular protective strategies.

Sudden cardiac death (SCD) remains a leading mode of death in western *** SCD can be the first and last clinical presentation of the underlying disease,autopsy could be the only medical examination available for early diagnosis and it should be performed according to the guidelines of the Association for European Cardiovascular *** the vast majority of SCD are due to coronary artery disease,non-ischemic causes of SCD do exist and are prevalent in young people with structural (***,hypertrophic and inflammatory cardiomyopathy) and non-structural (ion channel diseases)cardiomyopathies,accounting for up to one half of cases.A standardized autopsy protocol,in combination with blood sampling to ensure feasibility of postmortem molecular testing if needed,is *** pathologist is called to provide the correct diagnosis and to advice the relatives on the need of a cascade clinical and genetic screening in the presence of a heredo-familial disease.

Disturbance cues in freshwater prey fishes： Does urea function as an ＇early warning cue＇ in juvenile convict cichlids and rainbow trout？

Freshwater vertebrate and invertebrate prey species commonly rely on chemosensory information, including non-injury released disturbance cues, to assess local predation threats. We conducted laboratory studies to （1） determine if urea can function as a disturbance cue in juvenile convict cichlids and rainbow trout and （2） determine if the background level of urea influences the behavioral response to a subsequent pulse of urea （＇background noise＇ hypothesis）. In the first series of trials, juve- nile cichlids and trout were exposed to urea at varying concentrations （0 to 0.5 mg L-1 for cichlids and 0 to 1.0 mg L1 for trout）. Our results suggest that both cichilds and trout exhibited functionally similar responses to urea and conspecific disturbance cues and that increasing the concentration of urea results in an increase intensity of antipredator behaviour. In the second series of trials, we pre-exposed cichlids or trout to intermediate or high concentrations of urea （or a distilled water control） and then tested for the response to a second pulse of urea at at intermediate or high concentrations （versus a distilled water control）. Our results demon- strate that pre-exposure to urea reduces or eliminates the response to a second pulse of urea, supporting the background noise hy- pothesis. Together, our results suggest that pulses of urea, released by disturbed or stressed individuals, may function as an early warning signal in freshwater prey species

Osteosarcoma is one of the most common cancers in young adults and is commonly treated using surgery and *** the past years,these therapy approaches improved but failed to ameliorate the ***,novel,targeted therapeutic approaches should be established to enhance treatment success while preserving patient’s quality of *** studies suggest the application of degradable magnesium(Mg)alloys as orthopedic implants bearing a potential antitumor ***,we examined the influence of Mg-based materials on an osteosarcoma-fibroblast ***,Mg and Mg-6Ag did not lead to tumor cell apoptosis at low degradation ***,the Mg-based materials induced cellular dormancy in the cancer cells indicated by a lower number of Ki-67 positive cancer cells and a higher p38 *** dormancy-like state could be reversed by reseeding on non-degrading glass slides but could not be provoked by inhibition of the protein kinase R-like endoplasmic reticulum *** investigating the influence of the disjunct surface-near effects of the Mg degradation on cell proliferation,an increased pH was found to be a main initiator of Mg degradation-dependent tumor cell proliferation inhibition.

The continuous rise of CO2 concentrations in the atmosphere is reducing plant nutritional quality for herbivores and indirectly affects their *** whitefly(Bemisia tabaci,Gennadius)is a major worldwide pest of agricultural crops causing significant yield *** study investigated the plant‐mediated indirect effects of elevated CO2 on the feeding behavior and life history of *** Mediterranean *** were grown under elevated and ambient CO2 concentrations for 3 weeks after which plants were either used to monitor the feeding behavior of whiteflies using the Electrical Penetration Graph technique or to examine fecundity and fertility of *** leaf carbon,nitrogen,phenols and protein contents were also analyzed for each *** tabaci feeding on plants exposed to elevated CO2 showed a longer phloem ingestion and greater fertility compared to those exposed to ambient CO2 suggesting that *** is capable of compensating for the plant nutritional ***,this study looked at the transmission of the virus Tomato yellow leaf curl virus(Begomovirus)by *** exposing source and receptor tomato plants to ambient or elevated CO2 levels before or after virus transmission *** indicate that *** transmitted the virus at the same rate independent of the CO2 levels and plant ***,we conclude that *** Mediterranean species prevails over the difficulties that changes in CO2 concentrations may cause and it is predicted that under future climate change conditions,*** would continue to be considered a serious threat for agriculture worldwide.
