Background Cerebral malaria(CM)is a neuropathology which remains one of the deadliest forms of malaria among African *** kinetics of the pathophysiological mechanisms leading to neuroinflammation and the death or survival of patients during CM are still poorly *** increasing production of cytokines,chemokines and other actors of the inflammatory and oxidative response by various local actors in response to neuroinflammation plays a major role during CM,participating in both the amplification of the neuroinflammation phenomenon and its *** this study,we aimed to identify risk factors for CM death among specific variables of inflammatory and oxidative responses to improve our understanding of CM *** Children presenting with CM(n=70)due to *** infection were included in southern Benin and divided according to the clinical outcome into 50 children who survived and 20 who *** examination was complemented by fundoscopic examination and extensive blood biochemical analysis associated with molecular diagnosis by multiplex PCR targeting 14 pathogens in the patients'cerebrospinal fluid to rule out *** technology and enzyme immunoassay kits were used to measure 17 plasma and 7 urinary biomarker levels,*** were analysed by univariate analysis using the nonparametric Mann-Whitney U test and Pearson’s Chi2 *** and multivariate analyses were conducted separately for plasma and urinary biomarkers to identify CM mortality risk *** Univariate analysis revealed higher plasma levels of tumour necrosis factor(TNF),interleukin-1beta(IL-1β),IL-10,IL-8,C-X-C motif chemokine ligand 9(CXCL9),granzyme B,and angiopoietin-2 and lower urinary levels of prostanglandine e2 metabolite(PGeM)in children who died compared to those who survived CM(Mann-Whitney U-test,P-values between 0.03 ande multivariate logistic analysis highlighted elevated plasma levels of IL-8 as the m

effect of ezetimibe on the prevalence of cholelithiasis

AIM： To investigate the prevalence of cholelithiasis among patients treated with ezetimibe. MeTHODS： A retrospective, case-control study based on computerized medical records from patients of the Clalit Health Services, Sharon-Shomron region, from 2000 to 2009. Patients 20-85 years of age, who had been treated with ezetimibe and statins or statins only for at least 6 too, and who had an abdominal ultrasound were included in the study. Collected data included age, gender, ezetimibe treatment duration, presence of hypothyroidism or diabetes, and existence of cholelithiasis as determined by ultrasound. ex- cluded were subjects after gallbladder resection, with hemolysis, myeloproliferative or inflammatory bowel diseases, and those treated with ursodeoxycholic acid and fibrates. Patients treated with statins and ezeti- mibe （study group） were compared to patients treated with statins only （control group）. ReSULTS： The study group included 25 patients and the control group 168. All patients in the study were treated with statins. The study group included 13 males （52%） and 12 females （48%）, the control group 76 males （45%） and 92 （55%） females （P = 0.544）. The groups did not differ in age （mean age： 68 ± 8 years, range 53-85 years vs mean age： 71±8 years, range 51-85 years; P = 0.153） or in the rate of dia- betic and hypothyroid patients [11 （44%） vs 57 （33%）, P = 0.347 in the study group and 5 （20%） vs 23 （14%）, P = 0.449 in the control group, respectively]. Patients in the study group were treated with ezetimibe for an average of 798±379 d. Cholelithiasis was found in 4 （16%） patients in the study group and in 33 （20%） patients in the control group （P = 0.666）. CONCLUSION： ezetimibe does not appear to influ- ence the prevalence of gallstones.

Brain-derived neurotrophic factor alterations and cognitive decline in schizophrenia:Implications for early intervention

NeCAB family of neuronal calcium-binding proteins in health and disease

The N-terminal eF-hand calcium-binding proteins 1–3(NeCAB1–3) constitute a family of predominantly neuronal proteins characterized by the presence of at least one eF-hand calcium-binding domain and a functionally less well characterized C-terminal antibiotic biosynthesis monooxygenase domain. All three family members were initially discovered due to their interactions with other proteins. NeCAB1 associates with synaptotagmin-1, a critical neuronal protein involved in membrane trafficking and synaptic vesicle exocytosis. NeCAB2 interacts with predominantly striatal G-protein-coupled receptors, while NeCAB3 partners with amyloid-β A4 precursor protein-binding family A members 2 and 3, key regulators of amyloid-β production. This demonstrates the capacity of the family for interactions with various classes of proteins. NeCAB proteins exhibit distinct subcellular localizations: NeCAB1 is found in the nucleus and cytosol, NeCAB2 resides in endosomes and the plasma membrane, and NeCAB3 is present in the endoplasmic reticulum and Golgi apparatus. The antibiotic biosynthesis monooxygenase domain, an evolutionarily ancient component, is akin to atypical heme oxygenases in prokaryotes but is not wellcharacterized in vertebrates. Prokaryotic antibiotic biosynthesis monooxygenase domains typically form dimers, suggesting that calcium-mediated conformational changes in NeCAB proteins may induce antibiotic biosynthesis monooxygenase domain dimerization, potentially activating some enzymatic properties. However, the substrate for this enzymatic activity remains uncertain. Alternatively, calcium-mediated conformational changes might influence protein interactions or the subcellular localization of NeCAB proteins by controlling the availability of protein–protein interaction domains situated between the eF hands and the antibiotic biosynthesis monooxygenase domain. Free vibration and transient response of double curved beams connected by intermediate straight beams

This paper investigates the free vibration and transient response of interconnected structures including double curved beams and intermediate straight beams,which are all constructed from functionally graded porous(FGP) materials. The strain potential and kinetic energies of each beam along with the work done by the external force are calculated. Additionally, a higher-order beam element is introduced to derive stiffness and mass matrices, along with the force vector. The curved and straight beams are discretized, and their assembled stiffness, mass matrices, and force vectors, are *** conditions at the joints are used to derive the total matrices of the entire structure. Subsequently, the natural frequencies and transient response of the system are determined. The accuracy of the mathematical model and the self-developed computer program is validated through the comparison of the obtained results with those of the existing literature and commercial software ANSYS, demonstrating excellent ***, a comprehensive study is conducted to investigate the effects of various parameters on the free vibration and transient response of the considered structure.

Applying a Mathematical Model to the Performance of a Female Monofin Swimmer

This study sought to determine the best method to quantify training based on heart rate data. It proposes a modification of Banister’s original performance model to improve the accuracy of predicted performance. The new formulation introduces a variable that accounts for changes in the subject’s initial performance as a result of the quantity of training. The two systems models were applied to a well-trained female monofin swimmer over a 24-week training period. each model comprised a set of parameters unique to the individual and was estimated by fitting model-predicted performance to measured performance. We used the Alienor method associated to Optimization-Preserving Operators to identify these parameters. The quantification method based on training intensity zones gave a better estimation of predicted performance in both models. Using the new model in sports in which performance is generally predicted (running, swimming) will help us to define its real interest.

The objective of this article is to show the influence of mobile phone use while driving on the performance of petroleum product drivers in *** topical questioning centred on the series of accidents and near misses in general and specifically in the petroleum products sector and showed the need to look for other *** do so,we conceptually proposed a model derived from the literature review and adjusted by practical research,which shows that our approach is the hypothetico-deductive ***,the observations from the experience of 90 questionnaires were operationalized using multivariate logistic regression *** results indicate that making or receiving calls while driving significantly influences the occurrence of reckless driving *** and sending short message service(SMS or text messages)while driving negatively influences drivers’performance by increasing delivery *** type of phone used has an effect on the risk of accidents or near ***,drivers who use smartphones are 2.14 times more likely to experience crash-like events compared to those who use conventional mobile *** addition,with a view to reducing near misses and accidents,it is important to organize regular appropriate road safety campaigns,to install on-board cameras in all trucks,to provide rest areas and encourage drivers to stop at these areas to check their phones and catch up on missed *** to introduce training for drivers in defensive driving with a renewable licence after a maximum of 2 years.

Turkey wattle is a by-product generated during slaughter,which has a large amount of connective tissue and is a potential source of glycosaminoglycans(GAGs).This study aimed to extract GAGs from the turkey wattle(Meleagris gallopavos)and investigate its anticoagulant activity,and its cytotoxic and antiproliferative activity in tumor *** sulfate(CS-4 and CS-6)and dermatan sulfate(DS)present in the F-VII fraction and hyaluronic acid(HA)in the F-V fraction were *** HA showed a high molecular weight(1.0×10^(6) Da)and an apparent cytotoxic/antiproliferative effect against human hepatoma cells.F-VII fraction has an apparent cytotoxic/antiproliferative effect against renal adenoma cells and anticoagulant potential in *** results achieved in this study demonstrated that wattle,a by-product of turkey industrialization,has the potential to be valued as a raw material for the extraction of GAGs with bioactive properties.
